- Octopuses hunt for prey in cracks and crevices along the seabed using ‘taste-by-touch‘ - the ability to detect chemical signals simply by touching them. Now researchers have identified the molecular makeup of a chemo-tactile receptor that makes this possible. In this film we explore the surprising origins of this receptor, and ask whether molecular evolution can explain octopuses’ unique behaviours.

Octopuses. By the way, I have difficulty communicating because I had a stroke in Broca’s area, the part of the brain that controls speech. 2/8/2021 but I lived again. (My wife helped me compose this.)
i can relate to these lil homies, using my fingers to find my way around the world
i became blind in 2021 and use my fingers and sense of smell for chemotactile identification of objects :b
Really enjoyed it! Interesting!!! 👍👍👍👌
Quality video, only 4.8k views… underrated
Such an alien-like species
Octopus doesn't have a nose. She doesn't need it.
A very intriguing revelation of differences in hunting tactics (& potentially choice of prey) & underlying mechanisms among cephalopods. Research programs advance this way. A quality footage, thanks!
I believe in physical and sexual trauma survivors especially those whose bodies experience high levels of endometriosis have had prevalent consequences of mutation and when it comes to their perceptions of their environment they are certainly more vulnerable and therefore take up so much more data from things they can’t trust their eyes or hands for
So the computation and gating has migrated and recombined
Their arms are also photosensitive and communicate photographically with each other.
Octopuses are really cool in their capabilities but they are so freaking hideous 😷
