The one thing I would emphasize that some RUclipsrs miss is that this cab is intended to be as much a celebration of vintage arcade cabinet art as of the game itself. Indeed, the art of arcade cabinet design has largely been lost to posterity, and it's nice that Numskull is trying to raise awareness and bring those sensibilities back, albeit in much smaller form.
Absolutely - the preservation of arcade game history in its entirety is important to us. We wanted to make sure this cabinet was a very authentic replica, right down to the small details and cabinet artwork.
Wish i hadnt bothered. It arrived this morning in awful condition. Scratched, chips to the wood, coin compartment falling apart and collector coin box all crushed. Refund awaiting. I would expect better quality at the price.
@@mdj2010 Oh no! Really sorry to hear that, it definitely should not be arriving in that kind of quality. It must've been damaged during shipping. I'd recommend contacting the retailer you purchased it from for a replacement.
One detail I appreciate about this machine compared to the Replicade cabinets, cool as those are, is how the screen is nestled into the machine behind a plane whereas the screen on the Replicade cabinets is flush against the display.
You had my American brain confused at first when you said 150 pounds because I looked at it and thought there’s no way that thing could weigh that much! But the it dawned on me you meant £150 sometimes it’s hard to be American and watch you British guys.
Reckon all the RUclipsrs got their's for free? Seems unusual that so many people have reviewed this and not one of them has noticed you get five lives and can't change that. When did you ever see a pacman arcade machine with five lives? You can't access the dip switch settings to change it. And also it doesn't save your high scores. Reviewers need to do a better job. This is obvious stuff and everyone ignores it because if they criticise the machine the might not get a free one next time.
What's wrong with getting 5 lives. Yeah, it's not 100% accurate to most machines, but it doesn't hinder the experience. Besides, it gives you a chance to get farther in the game. It seems like nitpicking to me.
The only Pac-Man arcade machine I've played was a tabletop. The machine was not a cabinet like the quarter arcade, but quite literally shaped like a table. I played it during summer camp, where the camp owner had various full scale arcade machines, rigged so campers didn't need quarters or tokens. Only Pac-Man was a table machine, the others were standard cabinets. I have played Pac-Man on PC and Mobile, but the only Pac-Man *arcade* machine I've played was a table. Not saying this is a bad representation of the arcade game, just that I'd be more nostalgic for a miniature tabletop version.
I'm not sure where you could find a Switch for $200. They're still $300 brand new. I think this would definitely be worth the money (as is the Switch).
@@Mr.Pacario After considering it further, I believe you're right. I still think it's a bit too high, though. I feel like there's some nostalgic exploitation built in to the price. I don't like that. Maybe I'd feel differently if I had a hands-on session with it.
@@SlyBeast I have one, and can confirm its quality. Understand, though, that the real reason to get this is for the art--the nigh-perfect replication of the original cab. The game plays fine, but serious Pac-Man players are still going to be better off with a full-size joystick on a larger unit--that's just the way it goes. I wrote a blog about the unit here if you're curious: www.destructoid.com/--535451.phtml#post The machine has a few minor issues that should be resolved when the second batch ships in Feb.
150 notes for that? what a rip off, it will be played a few times before you realise its a)only got one boring game and b) a pc/rasberry pi/android box/modded console would all do this much better and cheaper, be a lot more comfortable to play plus have the advantage of having 1000s of other roms to choose from. 150 quid is a lot to pay for something that will gather dust for most of its life.

Why is someone cutting onions while I try to watch RUclips?

All it needs is some cigarette burn marks and a few ring shaped beer stains on the top.
These look like they're much higher quality than the Arcade 1Up 3/4 size units we've been seeing for a few months.
I watched Larry's video on all the mini arcade cabinets he purchased. This cabinet is nice.
Loving the nonstop flow of new Slopes material. This is truly a golden age.
Big Complete History that people have been asking for since the beginning going live on Sunday :D
@@slopesgameroom They've been asking since the beginning of Going Live!? That is a long time.
0:35 Wow, even DJ Slopes is getting himself confused with Larry
This is about the tenth review of this unit I have seen. This is the one to finally sell me on it. Great job!

I've actually only seen Larry's review.
You mean DJ Slopes' review.

Man this is great! It's a neat size if you don't want a real arcade cabinet or don't have the room for one.
i'm waiting for galaga
I thought this was going to be a review on the Arcade1up version when I saw the thumbnail and not the title!
Now I wonder if Slopes will review an Arcade1Up machine?
the description has a typo, it says "Numskull were kid enough"
I want a Dreamcast mini and a 3DO mini we can make at least one happen, Sega I doubt but road rash 32 we all want that.
How durable is the stick? It's so tiny...
Daddy,a ghost ate pacman!

It just seems to be an awkward size to me - too small the have on the floor, too big to have on a desk.
If it were any smaller, the joystick would be no bigger than a tic-tac. This size is the best compromise for playability and display purposes.
I agree....needs to be larger. A third size at least.
When your complete history on pac man?
As awesome as I know this is, I can't help but hold out until his "better half's" game receives the same treatment...🤔
We'll have Ms. PAC-MAN out in 2019!

@stevepiers Numskull has told me that it might release a firmware update that converts the game to a more standard three-lives model.

Damn - that's too expensive. I was thinking maybe $50 or $60.
$50.00 wouldn't even cover the parts involved to recreate this thing.

A quarter (1/4) arcade. Nice pun. 150 pounds? It looks like it doesn't weight no more than a few pounds!
100000000th review ive seen of this now :(:(:(
Seems it’s really for kids.....
It's actually for the older, hardcore collector looking to both celebrate the art of the original Pac-Man cab and own the perfect Pac-man collectible.
This seems too small for someone with normal sized hands.
It's definitely playable, the purpose is more to display, and celebrate, the original arcade art and cabinet design.
Pointlessly small......
Agreed.
Too expensive and can only be played comfortably by very young children.
