    I actually rotate weekly between my G23 my buddies Malibu and like mentioned above turning the wheel as you come off throttle eliminates the water over there transom concern and forces the boat to rotate 180 facing you back towards the rider. I absolutely love the walk through design and by no means would consider it a design flaw.

    • @wake_mann

      I respectfully disagree, that works fine for surfing but i mostly wakeboard and don't want a wake down my line.

  • @gregfreestone2293

    Water coming over the transom is easily avoidable. Just turn the wheel as you’re coming off plane. This has an added benefit of the wave hitting the back corner of the transom and speeding up the rotation. Gets you back to your rider faster.

    • @wake_mann

      I agree, but I still think its a design flaw as this method doesn't keep the lake as clean as possible.

      @@wake_mann I'm not talking about a power turn. Just come off the throttle as normal and turn the wheel at the same time, you won't be creating any additional rollers.

    • @wake_mann
      @wake_mann  3 года назад

      @@gregfreestone2293 I know but that method still sends a wave right down the lane you are taking, may not matter for surfing but with wakeboarding you will catch up to that wave once you get picked up and keep going that direction.

      Sounds strange, like a setting was off? I’ve driven many Axis and Malibu boats and have never had to hunt for the sweet spot. Just advance the throttle to the power needed for the set speed, the boat beeps to tell you you’re in cruise and that’s it. If the cruise is hunting it’s because you have the throttle to far back for your setting. Personally I’ve never been able to advance too far through the cc.

    • @wake_mann
      @wake_mann  2 года назад

      I've owned 4 different Malibus and they all had this problem; when throttle was all the way down it keeps revving up and down not holding to the set speed. When using cruise control you can't have it at its max, needs to be back at least a touch.

    • @darren7314
      @darren7314 Год назад +3

      @@wake_mann One thing to note on the throttle, Malibu designs it this way in the programming to allow the user to use the full throttle even when cruise control is activated. If you push the throttle past that 3/4 mark it will jump out of cruise control.. There is now a visual on the dash as well showing this. They have done this for a safety reasons. Great video

Great video, love the honesty and breakdown and all the examples of an actual regular boat owner. Owned my own boats since 97, before wakeboarding started, but by far my favorite past time. Currently looking at Malibu as a an all around next 10 year boat for my purposes. Just can't see the extreme price difference, especially looking at Paragon vs. anything. All very nice and have their place but still stuck on Malibu in my mind. Thanks for the great video

      Thank you! I appreciate your support. I didn't choose one or the other because I think it totally depends on your situation. Both brands have some great qualities and some not so great qualities. I think its obvious less people choose Nautique at a higher price when they have been able to get a bit better wave for less money, but there are all kinds of other features people think are important as well. I loved my 24 mxz and don't regret owning it for one second and I almost had another one if it weren't for a fallout with my dealer and I think dealer relationship is a huge factor. Thanks again!

    Great comparison and well articulated. We had a Malibu 23LSV and went to a Centurion Ri245. Many of your comparisons are the same for these two boats- in particular the cruise control and the impact of the fins. The Ri245 Dropzone tower is really great vs the 23LSV G5 tower I had. The Ri245 surf wave is greatly improved vs the Malibu with zero added weight other than the plug and play bags but the wakeboard wake is much harder to get right in my Centurion. Luckily for us, only an occasional guest wakeboards so I’m sure I need to learn more on how to dial in the wakeboard wake. Above all, the ride of the Centurion is way better and the surf wave is “smoother” and less impacted by any chop. I think it’s interesting to see how Correct Craft is positioning the Centurion and the Nautique in their product lineups.

    I’m not sure why the cruise on the Malibu wouldn’t take over control once you put the lever all the way forward that’s how it works on my axis you push it all the way and it automatically engages and takes over

    • @wake_mann
      @wake_mann  2 года назад

      I think you misunderstood what I said about the cruise control. It does take over, but if the throttle is pinned down at max throttle then it makes it overcompensate and then it keeps going up and down trying to find the perfect spot on its own. All you have to do is pull the throttle back a touch and its fixes it. This is common when have your boat almost maxed out on weight so it takes a bit longer to get on plane and the driver puts the shift lever all the way down. This is something you would only notice for fully weighted wakeboard speeds as you are not getting on plane to surf.

    • @wake_mann
      @wake_mann  3 года назад

      Hi Lando, I have never been in salt water with my boats. You would only want to do this if you have a salt water edition, they are built with anodes to keep the salt from corroding parts too quickly. Also you are supposed to do a fresh water flush on the raw water cooling system and hose your boat down after every salt water use. Hope this helps

    I know this varies with each boat, but whats the secret to getting a nice rampy wake? I have a centurion typhoon (23' Avalanche). Is it weight in the front? I put about 800lb in the back and still have a crumbling wake...thanks!

    • @wake_mann
      @wake_mann  3 года назад +1

      For all the boats ive owned you want to make sure you are weighted pretty evenly nose to tail in addition to port and starboard. When the boat it sitting still in the water the walking surface should be pretty near level. On all my 23 lsv's i had to add extra bow weight to counter ballance the tail weight. This is typical for traditonal bow boats as there must isn't much room on the bow for below deck ballast.

    • @toddhewett1027
      @toddhewett1027 3 года назад +1

      Hull design- you want a deep v that flattens out or slightly arches to sharp points at the transom.
      Also important is how low the rear deck sits in water. Just above the lake surface to 1”inch under when boat is stationary is ideal.
      Then proper weight.
      Are you running a surf system- either the suction cup things on opposite side of surfer or trim tabs?

Just curious your thoughts between the two, it seems like the pricing on Malibu is now cheaper than Nautique and teak seems to have a very big premium on their boats recently. Performance wise I don’t think will see a difference, or beginner to intermediate surfers, interior wise we like the Natiq better. I did iv surfed both and Malibu is definitely my choice because of the length..iv never been behind a g series boat. A friend of mine has a 2020 24mxz, another has a 2018 23lsv and I have a 06 vlx all other friends have Moombas 🤦‍♂️ but I want to try out a nautique

      Nice, the latest G series generation is definitely much better. Almost the best of both Malibu and Nautique but I could certainly see where people may still prefer Malibu's wave. Both great waves in my opinion.

    Love your videos man! Do you think the LT4 would be worth the price to upgrade it if I boat at sea level

    • @wake_mann
      @wake_mann  Год назад +1

      Is the LT4 supercharged, if so I don't think it's necessary but if you want to be able to push a boat full of people and full ballast, which will be over capacity, then the supercharger will do it. I am at 3600 ft and the 450 works great for me.

      @@wake_mann what’s your picks for the best surf style wake surf boards in 5 foot 10 185.

    • @wake_mann
      @wake_mann  Год назад +1

      @@joshraleigh101 I'm probably not a great resource for this as I mostly ride skim but if I were to buy a surf style board I would probably pick something from phase 5, I've ridden the aku and it's the first board I aired on. I also like the hyperlite high end surf style boards but they are expensive.

      Wouldn't that be a cool video, although I know which one I would choose. It would still be cool to compare.

    Every Malibu I’ve ordered came with the option to select ballast bags during the build. They were included when delivered.

      I promise you they were dealer installed and made by a different company. Malibu does not put bags in their boats, only hard tanks.

    Water coming over the transom is easily avoidable. Just turn the wheel as you're coming off plane. This has an added benefit of the wave hitting the back corner of the transom and speeding up the rotation. Gets you back to your rider faster.
