    German soldiers ride bicycle! Similar to Japan soldiers ride bicycle in my country during their occupation era. My grand dad and old teachers mentioned that facts when they told me and cousins how our people suffer during Japan Occupation era. Upon completion of viewing Combat series, I will view Baa Baa Black Sheep series - another story of WW2 in Pacific theatre.

    Damn! Robert Duvall appeared in everything prior to becoming an academy award winning actor.

    @WillowStrong Yeah, I wish they would have had at least one "reunion" show. The final episode in 1967 (with Robert Duvall) was great, and near the end of the war. The last show didn't wrap up anything though. They should have at least shot a series finale to see how our heroes made it through (or even IF they made it through). A "VE Day" show would have been cool...
    Peace, Randy

      Man, by the time you wrote that, most of the actors were sixty or more years old. A "series finale" shot then would have been pretty weird.

    @WillowStrong - Yeah, "The Partisan" aired 14 March 1967. With Robert Duvall and Claudine Longet it really was a great episode. I really don't think they knew it was their "last show" when they shot it. The ending does seem to anticipate a near ending of the war, but the squad is STILL in France so I'm not sure what to think. When you do watch it you should be pleased. It's great, but then I'm a big Robert Duvall fan!

    James Horan - Agree, California landscape really didn't do it for the show, especially in color, in black and white at least it wasn't so obvious.

    • @Liberatus
      @Liberatus 7 лет назад +1

      Elsbeth Humphrey - only if you know what California looks like, but I agree in B&W it was less obvious, but shot in NZ I just would just know and it would be a bit distracting.

      Because of the German Station politcs to buy in no series with a stong militaric content COMBAT never got on German or Austrian TV since Austrians often had split the Licence fees with the Germans for the US shows

  • @randy95023
    @randy95023 12 лет назад +3

    @WillowStrong - I've also noticed that a lot of the Germans speak very simple German with an English accent (I understand a little German). I still think it's great that Combat had all people speaking their correct languages without subtitles. Most TV shows have "foreigners" speak English with a bad accent. Combat! was a lot more realistic than most TV shows about the War in that era. Great show, with great Filmography and Direction!

    Surely the soldiers in Reece platoons were taught basic German or even French prior to D-Day. If they could at least have understood military terminology/ phrases in German so they could interrogate prisoners in the field etc etc.

    7:13 what a roller coaster of emotions! First, I was excited to hear him say Heimlich maneuver, but with an awkward fake German accent, instead he starts talking about turning the kid over and I’m super disappointed, then they each grab the kid by a foot and start smacking him on the back while he’s upside down in front of his mothers startled face and it was the best thing I’ve ever seen on this show, probably ever.

    See the should have had an ending show comments. The Fugitive ended the same year but they knew it was the last. ABC prostituted and ended Combat to get it into syndication,. In those days, if show still on air, could not syndicate it. Sad, the last years shows could have been in Germany and going to conclusion. Sad MGM kicked them out. the CA back country scenery does not work.
