Last season for Eric ten hag wasn’t good, but he also had to play OVER 30 different defensive combinations in one season, of that the same combination of centre backs didn’t play together more than 3 times! He had to deal with Sancho, Ronaldo AND Greenwood in his time aswell.

Arteta has been given far more rope than Emery had and has benefitted from a better structure under Kronke and Edu than Emery had. It's just objectively true.

I honestly don't think Emery would have succeeded at Arsenal. Not because he's a bad manager, I think he's great but because of the environment he walked into, the culture at the club had fallen big time towards the end of Wenger's reign, the amount of toxicity in the squad and anyone following Wenger almost seemed destined to fail, like Moyes after Fergie. I only think Arteta was allowed the time he was given was because of his prior links to the club. I'm glad things worked out with us and Arteta and that Emery found success at Villareal and is doing well at Villa

Emery vs Arteta is definitely the spiciest topic in premier league managers. I think that people don't talk about the pressure at top clubs right. Calling it "pressure" kind of hides the actual difficulties. Man U is probably the highest pressure club in the world in terms of Manager expectations and having to deal with superstars and a stubborn board. Maybe Emery is worse than Arteta at getting a team of superstars to listen. But when teams work with Emery he is definitely a tactician who can take wins in knockout stages.

I get his point about Thomas Frank deserving a bigger club but at the same time i can’t see it going well. Arteta is showing clear signs of progress as Arsenal manager. ETH isn't. Yes Ten Hag has lucked his way to a couple of trophies but there's a reason why United fans have been disgusted with their team in recent years whereas Arsenal fans have been very content or even happy. One team is clearly moving in the right direction.

If elite sport is all about winning and ETH has 2 trophies in 2 seasons then why are so many United fans unhappy with their team, why are they miserable 9/10 game weeks? Fans love to say it's all about trophies but it really isn't, performance matters. What a fan with a season ticket has to endure for 20+ games matters. I would rather watch a team that plays good football and fights for the league than a team that is mid table quality but wins a Carabao every now and then personally. (I'm not an Arsenal fan btw)

Emery is a very good manager, but he’s had the opportunity to show he is great and he has failed at it. Arteta, on the other hand would be close to greatness if he can get Arsenal to win major trophies. Potential absolutely counts, and Arteta just has more potential than Emery.

Love the Arsenal fan talking about Arsenal as one of the biggest clubs, they were years before Emery, they were years after him. They werent a big club around that time. City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Utd all far bigger. Arteta took them to back to back 8ths. Thats the Arsenal Emery managed. If you wanna slag him off, its the fact he couldnt take an 8th placed club like Sevilla or Villa to the Champions league with Arsenal.
Emery won nothing in his first 10 years managing professionally, Arteta has 1 cup in his 5 years managing professionally, so counting Emery's trophy's over a 20 year period compared to Arteta's 1 cup in 5 years is stupid. Arteta even managed to do it with the mess he inherited from Emery, something Emery couldn't even do at Arsenal. You can only really compare them to what they did in their first 5 years, which means Emery has 4 more years to win something with Villa with his 15 year experience he has on Arteta. The same standard must be applied to them if they're forcing a rivalry, the goalposts can't be moved to ''But it's little old Villa''. Emery's also held an L to Arteta at home this season.
Emery got his first managerial club promoted in his first season with them, got his second managerial club promoted in his first season with them and won the Europa League in May 2014 which is less than 10 years after he started managing (December 2004).
It's always frustrating when this Unai/Arteta debate comes up. People completely ignore why Sevilla was always in the Europa League under Emery. They either had poor league form or they finished 3rd in their group in the Champions League. Unai Emery's champions League form is absolutely horrendous. Winning Europa Leagues is obviously impressive, but there's a reason we're talking about that instead of the Champions League. He wasn't good enough
