I came for the memes, I stayed for the guy.
As a Dragonforce fan, the lyrics are pretty easy to write. Most of their songs are about either dragons or wastelands or a hopeless endless journey. The newer albums have delved into slightly broader topics, like technology, but I think that was just an excuse to get more experimental with autotune shreds and electronic instruments...
So, with that in mind, pick your topic and write lyrics:
1 Dragons
2 Wastelands (possibly long forgotten battlefields)
3 A journey (usually hopeless, for eternity and never-ending)
4 Other (Mostly abstract ideas, usually involving a woman guiding you or technology changing you)
They also like to make visual imagery descriptions. Considering I like metaphorical music and often equate it to metaphor, oddly DragonForce are actually quite direct about what they want you to visualise. Its usually a spectacle like a place or a battle. They also like you to think of powerful imagery like Fire, Storms, Floods, Stars, Wings, etc. They want to make everything into a spectacle. Its nonsense that sounds badass, can be visualised as badass, can be read as badass and most importantly, is just generally badass guitar shreds.
One last note, remember, you don't have to write a whole song. DragonForce's power-metal is just about showing your skills. The lyrics are secondary, which is why many of their songs are so lyrically... similar. They are an afterthought. The power metal comes first. That's why you don't have to write a whole song, or at least not a long one, since less than half of the song will be lyrical. Most shorter Dragonforce songs have 40%-60% lyrics, with the rest of the time devoted to shreds, with longer songs (7mins+) usually having 20%-40% lyrics, with the majority of time devoted to shredding.
Have fun writing a song.
Every line in every song is basically like a metal album cover in the way Brütal Legend describes it.
