Something I didn't mention in this video is that many of the websites I mention are completely in Dutch. But don't worry - you can easily translate these websites to your preferred language using a Google Translate Chrome extension :)

For some reason, almost all cities and towns have a thing called a "woonboulevard". It's a concentration of furniture shops, beds, kitchens, all the stuff for decorating your house. Usually you'll find affordable shops all the way up to the expensive design shops.

Hey Lisa! Quick question, did you take any furniture etc with you from Australia? Or did you get everything when you arrived in NL? And what was your rationale?
Thanks, couldnt recall if you made mention of this before 😅

No I haven't mentioned it before, so good that you ask! We decided to not take any furniture with us from Australia for a few reasons:
      - A lot of our old furniture was better suited for a bigger apartment (our last apartment was only 55sqm)
      - We weren't emotionally connected with our old furniture, and were happy to just sell it before moving
      - When we first moved to the Netherlands, we weren't sure about how long we would really stay here for (especially because we moved during the pandemic) and we wanted maximum flexibility in case we decided to move back to Australia
      - Our first apartment ended up being a furnished apartment, so practically speaking there wasn't a need for us to bring anything over!
Having said that, we have many friends who brought their furniture over :) Usually this was because their employer was willing to fully sponsor relocation costs, including shipping of furniture.

Thanks a lot for your videos. I'm moving to Amsterdam next month from Argentina. I've heard that finding an apartment to live is not that easy. Would be great to hear your tips on that subject. I'm using Pararius a lot atm. Thanks a lot! Cheers,

Exciting! Yes unfortunately finding an apartment in Amsterdam is very tricky especially if you are not already living here. You can also use Funda, which I personally find easier to use than Pararius.
We ended up hiring a rental agency to help us find an apartment - this is a good option if you can afford it because it can be tricky to navigate a foreign housing market, and will help you secure a good place to live in much more quickly than if you did it yourself. There is a list of companies listed here: www.iamexpat.nl/housing/netherlands-rentals/rental-housing-agencies (we used Expat Housing Network and had a fantastic experience). Otherwise Facebook Groups are also a good way to find temporary/long-term accommodation, just be careful of scams and don't pay anything upfront without checking out the place and person first. Good luck!

A lot of our furniture is from IKEA too - so convenient, reasonably priced, and has something for every need!
