    Excellent video/very well done.
    For most people, this is a definite plus/excellent way to save some money, especially if you already have the heat gun and a good knife.
    But for someone who doesn't have any of the supplies or tools......the total is $101.00 plus a good 30+ minutes to do the splicing.
    Total for a new transducer with pre-installed wiring that I don't have to splice - 99.00.

    Yes my garmin gt 56 got caught in trolling motor. Soildered with out foil and received zero signal. I bought the gt30 but it offered less options. I’ll redo with foil trick. To keep from buying 350 transducer. Keep you updated. Thanks for the video sir. 🍻

    Thank you for this. My boat manufacturer clipped the Helix SI transducer cable tight and buried in the hold of the boat. I'd like to sell the Helix SI with the transducer but I can't pull the transducer cable out. Efforts to dig into the side cavities in the boat look pretty complicated. So I'll have to cut the cable and put it back together again. If and when anybody is rigging, don't permanently attach any cables or wires in a way that they cannot be pulled back out. At some point one will update graphs and electronics. The wires will have to be removed at that time.

    Good job. I'mma do the same but I am going to extend the cable of my Lowrance Hook2 fishfinder. I just need now a 22 gauge 6-conductor cable to do the job. By the way, what happened why your wire is cut into half?

  • @larrymorgan8738

    Great information, boat was in storage for 3 years and rodents chewed all wires into. Was afraid that was going to have to purchase new fish finder or transducer, fish finder purchased a year before putting into storage.

    Hi! Was just about to try to fix my transducer cable. But it does not have the silver shielding inside the cable. There are clear plastic with white powder Inside, do I just follow the same instructions?

    • @thejungleexplorer

      It can't hurt to try. The shielding may be unnecessary, but it does not hurt to add it.

    Great video--I had the same problem w/ my hummingbird Piranhamax 4---Cable looks nicked but not cut through however, screen displays "transducer not connected" & that silly simulator comes on. I'm still not sure if problem is nicked wire or unit. Question---If all the wires are not cut, is it possible to only repair the damaged wires or do you think i should cut all & start your method? You did a great job on step by step direction.....Kerry

      I would just repair the damaged wire. No need to cut the rest.

    I'm about to do this with a 4pin garmin transducer cable and one of the wires is a bare wire. Do you know if the bare wire making contact with the aluminum foil will create any interference or cause any issues? Thanks!

    • @thejungleexplorer
      @thejungleexplorer  2 года назад

      I would wrap it to prevent it from contacting the shielding.

    • @Steve-xl2mn
      @Steve-xl2mn Год назад +3

      That bare wire is common feature in shielded cabling. It's called a 'drain wire', and is meant to provide a physically durable, continuous ground line along entire cable length. If the foil shielding develops cracks or tears due to flexing, the drain wire will reconnect separated sections to ground. So, short answer--no, let the bare wire make full contact with the foil shield 👍

    hi from Turkey, I have watched your video named "How to Splice & Repair a Cut Fish Finder Transducer Cable" . I have a smiliar issue, my garmin striker 5cv plus transducer cable damaged and I lost the connector which plugs in to the device. do you know where to find a 4 pin connector for my device and also do you know how to connect each cable to the 4 pin connector? I do not know which cable does what? waiting for your reply. thanks from Turkey.

    • @thejungleexplorer

      That's a tough one. I doubt that you will be able to buy just the connector. My best advice would be for you to look on sites such as eBay for someone selling a broken Garmin striker 5cv for parts or finding a used cable.

    Soo.. what if all the wires have the shielding? And inside the shielding is 2 wires.. orange/ white .. blue/white.. green/white... do u just twist them together and put them into the sleeve together with the other matching side??

      @@thejungleexplorer adding a new transducer to my old wire because they don't make my model anymore.

    • @Erklzanderz
      @Erklzanderz 2 года назад

      @@donnysbackroadoutdoors5088 you will have to try to figure out the wiring diagram of the individual units to match up. I dont recommend it, and it is unlikely to operate properly since different transducers and head units send and recieve different frequencies. You are in over your head, and could damage sensitive electronics. Just order the correct transducer or it is simply time to upgrade your head unit....since it seems severely outdated if they dont make transducers for it anymore. Or, look for a used one on E-Bay?
