In the summer of 82 I was 14 and I saw Metallica a few times with the original line-up, Dave Mustaine on lead and Ron Mcgovney on bass. Metallica was selling those original "Metal Up Your Ass" t-shirts and demo cassettes out of the back of an old green station wagon in the parking lot. One night this unknown band called Slayer was on the same bill. The club was called The Woodstock Concert Theatre in Anaheim, CA. They routinely had no age limit nights. Next door to that club there was another club called Radio City, and one of my guitar buddies saw a young Yngwie Malmsteen there.
I've got a nice story about exactly the same guitar. In the early 90´s, my best friend and I used to work in a guitar shop in Paris. One day, our neighbor next door who had a Metal records shop, ask us to come and help him for translating an interview he had booked with the guys from Slayer to feed the Metal fanzine he was also involved in. We were both huge fan of the band and knew that Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman had a great collection of BC Rich's. So my friend decided to take the guitar to the interview to get the backplate signed off by the Slayer´s gang members. Jeff and Kerry were literally blown away by the beauty, the rareness and the dead stock like immaculate condition of the guitar. They knew how hard to find this limited edition was. It went worse when they did check the serial number on the back of the headstock : N°13 !!! (out of 50, so no 66 or 666) For metal heads like them it was a kind of holy grail ! So they went from just signing fanboys' items to I WANT THIS FUCKING GUITAR ! Kerry was the first to go mad and offered my friend crazy stupid money to buy it. Then Jeff got in with a superior amount. Within the next minutes they were nearly fighting each other like on a crazy auction session , totally ignoring my friend's will to keep the Rico for himself. He just wanted signatures on his guitar. Now you can had to your books that number 13 of this beast have its backplate signed by Tom Arraya, Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman and is still owned by a French guy who is still cherishing it as a milestone in his collection . Nice, isn't?
Eh bien si un jour tu veux la vendre à un Parisien qui la chérira, et la jouera en alternance avec une Mockingbird et d'une Eagle koa, fais-moi signe !!
Not including the nobs (which make the tonal range infinite), there are 480 different options. 3x2x2x2x2x2x5 = 480 3-way pickup selector Multiplied by 2 for the first preamp toggle (either off or on) Multiplied by 2 again for the second preamp toggle Multiplied by 2 again for the phase reversal switch (again, it can be either off or on) Multiplied by 2 again for the first coil tap then multiplied by 2 for the second coil tap then multiplied by 5 for the 5 way selector. =480

I'm really skeptical that Dave painted that guitar black. The black guitar had completely different hardware with gold knobs and tuners along with a separate bridge. Since Mustaine got his BC Rich endorsement around that time I'm willing to bet they gave him a different Bich.
@@coolcool8651 When the band started up in 1984 Dave used his same Bich he had in Metallica. Once they got Gar into the band, Gar was a manager at BC Rich which definitely did them some favors when they needed anything from the company like when Dave Ellefson got a brand new bass when he accidentally shaved the neck too far on his mockingbird bass. You can see an image on the internet taken sometime in 1985 with Mustaine sitting by 2 black BC Rich's. He's never come out and said this but it just makes sense to me that they sent out 2 bich's to him and the black 12 string ended up in his hands and the 6 string in the same photo wounded up in Chirs Poland's as the Choose Deth guitar. There's also some images from around this time where Mustaine had a green 6 string and even a BC rich strat but apparently those didn't make it past '85.
Absolutely beautiful. I was first turned on to BC Rich Bich from Paul Chapman of UFO who always played them in his tenure in the band. Such a versatile and sweet sounding guitar. Very unique in both design and function and in Koa!

I've got a early '80's BC Rico. I got some info on it. It was made in Japan. There were only 4 colors made and a total of 150 of each color. It's body shape is the Mockingbird. Killer guitar. It played very well, easy to set it up. It sound good through my Marshall half stack.
I'm doing a total rewire of an '80 Mockingbird Koa - an electrical beast. The tones coming from this bass before are incredible. . . . cant wait to hear it with all new components.
07:22 In the early 80's BC Richichs were the guitars of the day, and everyone wanted to play a Bich 10 string, even Dave Mustaine had one, and on the Metallica "No Life 'til Leather" demo, Mustaine might have played with one like that..... 07:22 A inicios de los 80's las BC Richich eran las guitarras de moda, y todos querían tocar con una Bich 10 strings, incluso Dave Mustaine tuvo una, y en el demo de Metallica "No Life 'til Leather", quizas Mustaine haya tocado con una asi.....

I was lucky enough to have owned one of Bernie Rich's original hand-build prototype (Seagull?) basses from the early 70s, which I played for my entire 35+ year career. (Thanks Grant @ the 12th Fret!) (I used to get studio calls to play on tracks because that bass sounded so unique.) Dual Hi-A Bartolinis, fretless ebony board, prototype Leo Quan Badass bridge... Very similar electronics with the Varitone and active boost, phase, coil taps, etc. Never had a single issue with the electronics in 35 years.. first time I remember seeing BC Rich was Neil Geraldo playing with Pat Benatar on Solid Gold, or something. I was amazed because it looked so different and the 4 tuners at the bottom blew my mid. it's was the same two tone wood as this.
Assuming each knob can be though of in increments of ten, meaning that there are 63 options, you can get 1.982608315e87 variations. That means 1.982608315 but with the decimal moved 87 places to the right. That's a lot of options.
George Kooymans from the Dutch band Golden Earring was very fond of the BC Rich 10 strings in the mid to late 80s. considering they where quite well known for extended versions of 8 Miles High I suppose it's not too surprising
My dream guitar....well along with the overly expensive B.C. Rich Stealth Chuck Schuldiner signature guitar...heck i would take a regular one if i could lol awesome find!
No need to pout, the cubbies ended their drought, and we can all scream. Go cubs go, go cubs go, hey Chicago what do you say? The cubs won the world series yesterday!

Multiplied by 2 again for the second preamp toggle
Multiplied by 2 again for the phase reversal switch (again, it can be either off or on)
Multiplied by 2 again for the first coil tap

Yay he mentioned Dave mustaine yay I'm happpy
So hard to believe that this beautiful piece of artwork was constructed 80 years before the birth of Jesus Christ . Unbelievable
You must be fun at parties.
I think its a shame that JC even needed to be born after this miracle of instrument design...

Down cross the bridge to my sweet sassafrassy
Can't stand up on my feet in the city
Got to get back to the real nitty gritty
Yes sir, no sir
Don't come close to my
Home sweet home
Can't catch no dose
Of my hot tail poon tang sweetheart
Sweathog ready to make a silk purse
From a J. Paul Getty and his ear
With her face in a beer
Home sweet home
Get out in the field
Put the mule in the stable
Ma she's a cookin'
Put the eats on the table
Hate's in the city
And my love's in the meadow
Hands on the plow
And my feets in the ghetto
Stand up, sit down
Don't do nothing
Ain't no good when boss man's
Stuffin' it down their throats
With paper notes
As babies cry
While cities lie at their feet
When you're rockin' the street
Home sweet home
Mama, take me home sweet home
I was a last child
Just a punk in the street

How do you tune the harmony strings on this guitar
Or how do you take the harmony strings off
first time I remember seeing BC Rich was Neil Geraldo playing with Pat Benatar on Solid Gold, or something.
What a beauty. Def a grail piece
I love it 😍 i want one 🤟
Cool guitar, great video
My dream guitar....well along with the overly expensive B.C. Rich Stealth Chuck Schuldiner signature guitar...heck i would take a regular one if i could lol awesome find!
Subscribed to this channel before watching one second of videos... How could a channel about rare guitars be bad?!?
Man that sounds crunchy!!
Songs:
Neck Pickup: Nightrain - Guns 'N' Roses
Middle Pickup: Last Child - Aerosmith
Bridge Pickup: The Four Horsemen - Metallica/The Mechanix - Megadeth
sounds really good
No need to pout, the cubbies ended their drought, and we can all scream.
Go cubs go, go cubs go, hey Chicago what do you say? The cubs won the world series yesterday!
your show is great
only taking into consideration the knobs on the full on and full off position, you could get 4800 different tonal variations from a set up like this.
I can "only" get it to 480 different variations with all knobs on max...
if each knob has 10 notches, you can get up to 36 million
Hey love Guitar of the day😀would be cool if you guyz did a double neck...thumbs up from Scotland
How much. And can you ship it to the uk. Thanks I'll buy it now
Thanks Mark :)
As always great song choices, very axe-specific. And some impressive virtuosity exhibited over the course of the Guitar of the Day Video "library".
whats a cluster fword of stuff , is that an option on all bc rich guitars and what exactly does it do
I believe Lita Ford Played one with Her Ozzy Duet ..
Todd PYYKOLA Lita played a Warlock.
Joseph Larrisey She played a Bich double neck on Close My Eyes Forever, and has a single neck Bich in the Gotta Let Go music video
Love the Koa body wings. Gotta be a heavy guitar though. Koa is so dense. But a great tone wood.
I have a 83 mockingbird bass
It has almost the exact same controls
Unique monster rock bass
One of the guitars I HAVE to have!
Oh I think I'll wear my leather jacket with metal zippers and snaps while I play this rare beauty.
