    Sorry the audio sucks on this video! I was recording in a noisy environment and found that Windows 11 does some funky automatic attenuation and amplification crap based on environment noise, so it came out with such poor quality... Windows 11 has been really messing with my ability to edit lol. Anyway hope you enjoyed.

    Just putting this out here for information...I own a Kayo K6-R 250cc..it is the same dual over head cam engine as the GPX, just smaller. So I wanted to address the quality of the build and pass on some knowledge. My Kayo has a much better quality build than other china bike builds..it is how the specs were ordered for the build. Example: grade bolts, chromoly steel frame, billet hubs, larger spokes, heavy duty aluminum rims, Kenda tires, aluminum break away levers, aluminum sub frame, billet aluminum clamps for front forks, stainless steel pipe, aluminum swingarm and I can go on and on....GPX does similar things...they get their bikes made to their specs. Not all of the bikes are built to these levels even the lesser priced bikes by Kayo,SSR and GPX use different quality of metal and components to meet a price point. They could build exactly the same thing as the big 5, but it would cost the same price...and that is not what makes them appealing ... So in summary my Kayo K6-R is the best pure MX bike to come out of China ever, but still I am aware that the engine is a little less powerful (think Suzuki RM250z) and a little more heavy (different metals in suspension) but I could buy 2 for the price of one KTM......and this is the same for the GPX, Gary is trying to put out an affordable bike that most people could ride to it's potential and can afford.

      I had the EGL A17 which is the 300cc big bore, I'll say the carb was definitely better than the SSR version but the clutch and brake handles were better than anything I've ever seen! I probably had a dozen high speed wrecks and never bent a handle, they would flip forward plus up and down as well plus fully adjustable. I looked them at the time, those alone are $55 a set on ebay...

  • @dougshaw7128
    @dougshaw7128 2 года назад +2

    I recently purchased two EGL A16 250s for my wife and I, they are essentially the same bike as the GPX FSE 250e without the electronic dashboard. They were $3000.00 each and the only problem I have was the air box cover doesn’t fit properly but a drill , a clip nut and a screw fixed it. I have the same problem with the forks on the sharp repetitive hits but they take the whoops like a bike that costs much more. The air cooled 250 motor is easy to maintain and so far is reliable. It has very good low end torque and I have taken it on some technical single tracks and the clutch has preformed well. All in all being a budget that would not allow me to buy a new European or Japanese bike I am happier than I expected to be.

    Good unbiased review Gabe. I had a similar experience with my FSE450. However, with my crappy experience with both the bike and customer service, I will not recommend GPX to anyone. It seems that they have slowly addressed some of the issues, but the price keeps going up. To me, the price point is now at a place where a used bike makes more sense. But, I'm still a little bit on the fence about it. If I buy a new KTM, I'm getting a quality bike no doubt, with good resale value. The GPX bikes, probably not much on resale, but, I would have two bikes, a four stroke, and a two stroke, very cool. So I don't know yet. Lol

    ECU tuning is available via the aRacer mini 5 ECU. You can tune via Bluetooth or dirct plug in through diagnostic ports. IMHO - these bikes aren't meant to be equal to a KTM/Husky/GasGas and that is why they are half the price new. GPX could up spec them to the moon with WP/Showa/KYB and add aluminum this Ti that... but then it becomes another $10K bike. These seem to be modern XR400's , improved DRZ400 or cheaper alternatives to the CRF450L or 500EXC. All solid bikes that fit 90% of riders needs , including the casual enduro/desert/haresceamble racers. The DOHC FSE300R seems to be a real ripper.

    I owned the "old" Honda-style Asiawing NC250 and the bike was pretty good, especially for beginners.
    I replaced the carb for a Keihin FCR and that woke up the bike. Suspension was horrible in the front but alright in the rear.
    Otherwise a very well put bike with fasteners that were better than many mainstream brands. The wheels were really, really good with thick staineless spokes and nipples and billet hubs.
    Weight was the main issue. The engine probably weighed 30-40% more than a well-known 250 4-stroke but it was probably indestructible. It also held almost 2L of oil so there's that.
    Parts prices. The Ali Express Powerparts catalog would have complete engines for under $1000. A complete cylinder head complete with camshafts and valves was something like $100.
    Swap the front forks for something well known and the bike would've been a really good option for many riders looking for new bikes, but who don't need a 40hp race bike.
    This new GPX looks good. Great content as always Gabe.

    Sounds like an interesting experience. Chinese bikes are well known for being pretty good as idea, but in reality there are bad quality of welding, screws, rims and overall materials compared to Japanese or European brands. That's why you won't see Chinese bikes in the first places in Enduro races, they just can't live long enough. At least for now, one day it may change, but that day Chinese bikes start to cost the same as western ones.

    • @mazdaweeb3

      These can survive an enduro race just fine, especially since the motors are under stressed. The reason you don't see many of them finishing in high places is because they're rare, less powerful than the competition, and generally only lesser skilled riders buy these cheaper bikes.

    Potential buys should be aware that there will be higher than usual running costs due to poor materials. This is the case now in China with Chinese cars and bikes. Even Chinese people think Chinese cars and bikes are a poor value proposition long term because they just aren't made to last.

      I am looking at that Kayo 250 two smoker too...spoke with a guy racing one hare scrambles(B rider he said)and he kept referring to it as more of an entry level race bike and power more like a 200. That 4500 can only buy so much i guess.... but sure is a good price point.

      @@lynchcreekmuzzy5759 when I buy one, not if but when, I’ll be going into it knowing it’s not going to ever compete with a newer Ktm or yz250, I’ll be looking at it more like a kdx200 and using it as an enduro machine. The dealer near me said it’s possible to title them, and if NJDMV gives me a hard time I can register with dirt legal. I don’t want to compete with it. I plan on using it as a trail bike, a bike to wheelie with, something fun idc if it gets beat up, something to let family or friends ride when they come over. I do plan on updating it fully tho. When buying a bike like this you need to disassemble and reassemble with a quality bolt kit and med-high strength removable locktight. I’ll be buying an extra piston and cylinder as soon as possible to keep around. Also I’ll be fitting it with modern Ktm plastics. I’m fairly positive with
      Minimal effort Ktm plastics will fit.

    Does anyone own a GPX bike? Can we get some feedback on reliability?

    • @dracer35
      @dracer35 2 года назад +2

      I own a 2020 GPX TSE 250R, the 2 stroke model. My previous bike was a 2015 KTM 500EXC for reference. So far my experience with the GPX has been positive and I really like the bike. I've raced enduro races, climbed nearly vertical hills with my buddies and cruised around on slow trail rides with new riders. My one and only complaint is there was several bolts that started backing out the first few rides. I basically just went back over the whole bike and made sure everything was tight and have been enjoying the bike since. The engine has been solid with zero issues. I never even adjusted the carb since it seems to work fine for my altitude. The oil injection lines leaked a little because the stock hose clamps were weak but that's easily fixed with better clamp and you don't have the oil injection on the 4 stroke model anyways. I was really worried the suspension was going to suck but turns out its one of the things I like best about the bike. Its plush over smaller imperfections yet works well enough to hit rock face step ups. It seems to keep the bike planted almost to a fault. I've had a few instances where the back tire hooked up hard on a hill climb and I flipped the bike lol. On that note, its held up well to crashing too lol. I've not been super easy on it and its still going strong. For the time being, I really like the bike and have no intention to replace it. PS, I happened to come across a $1000 off promo code on the GPX facebook page by doing a quick google search that was supposed to be for the 2019 model closeouts. So I paid $4250 total shipped to me in a crate. I don't think you can get them that cheap anymore though. Just my experience so far. Everyone who has never owned one of these bikes will complain which makes it that much better when my GPX makes it through a really hard technical section or crazy steep hill climb and everyone else on their big name brand bikes are crashing or left behind lol. Hope it helps.

    Those issues seem pretty predictable from a chinese manufacturer. They're wonderful at integrating proven technology into their design and doing it efficiently and reliably, but they seriously lag in high expertise high investment R&D. It can lead to some odd quirks other manufacturers addressed decades ago through sheer experience and drive time.

      It's the TSE 250R. The engine is based off the Yamaha DT 230 so it's technically not a true 250. But for 2022 they upped it to a 300, which I'm guessing is to be a more compelling 300cc offering over a similar KTM or BETA. LCARS ADV has a 2019 version of the TSE 250R that he put a Smart Carb on and loves it. He says for him the power is very linear and it's good at "tractor-ing" over obstacles at low speeds.

The manufacturer of the gpx frame, suspension, and rims have a good quality control, even zonshen, who makes 1000s of engines for all manufacturers around the world. I have had 1 minor issue with my fse450 where valves where out of spec from the factory. Not a big issue. But it's to each their own. I'll keep my gpx for half the cost.
