I definitely foresee a family reality show in the future. You are a talented motoring journalist. Your reviews are punchy, witty, honest, and informative. Most importantly, I enjoy how your family and friends match your energy every time you introduce them to us. Thank you.
And in the world's biggest plot twist **drumroll** - Luca: The Man, The Legend, The Myth ... Returns! And he is not alone, he has DAD, his trusty steed with him. LOL! What a time to be alive! Silly me aside, though - you have a beautiful family. :)
@@julietmcguire I think this is something that sets your videos apart from other car reviewers. You make it part of your everyday routine… reviewing the Kia Sonet on your way to friends. I love it.
Kia said the facelift fuel consumption is 6.2 instead of 7 like the previous model. The new auto also supposedly quicker than the previous 11.8 vs 10.2 to 100 kmh respectively. I bought mine when launched and the fuel comsumption just got better and better. Now I get 6 litres per 100km/l, it started at 7.2.
Bought a pre facelift Sonet today, definitely agree with the value for money and boot space is one of the biggest in the segment. Urban Cruiser was the competition but the Sonet beat it with spec and solidness.
I think that the Toyota Starlet Cross / Suzuki Fronx makes purchasing this car a lot more difficult for many South Africans. Edit 1: Honda Elevate is also a strong proposition in the segment.
Paying almost R400k for a family car with 2 airbags doesn't make sense! Would rather go for the Toyota Urban Cruiser or Suzuki Grand Vitara. Not as premium but slightly bigger cars with 6 airbags at around R360k. Engine not as powerful but better value options in imo.
Am I grabbing at straws if I say the Kia Sonet must come with a more powerful engine and AWD? If such a model comes out I would definately buy it without looking at anything else...
The previous Sonet is 7 liter per 100km they say; mine was 7, after 3rd service its now 5,7. The new one actually gets 6.2. They say. If it does what mine did, it will be like 5,5 😅. What I would like to know is performance wise, how does it feel compared to previous Sonet. Kia says the 0-100 is improved to 10.3 sec. In an auto..... the prefacelift manual was 11.3 and auto 11.8. How do they do this? I have seen a clip where someone got 9.8 sec with the facelift turbo. The pre-facelift was 11.3. Also, I saw that on video. I don't know what or how they did it with the same power and engin to improve performance and fuel consumption, well that is what they said the specs was. I found that the specs given by Kia usually match results. Not like other cars where the figures given don't match actual tesults. Last thing I wish the ex had the lightbar in the rear and mags. They made a mistake online, they said all but the lx has the led ligtbar when actually just the sx has it. And you only get mags from the ex+ and up. I know it's a premium car, but to pay over 400k and get plastic for mags..... 😢
That cvt is so so so so bad!!!!!! 1.0 turbo with double clutch would be better option.Drove my sisters sonet 1.5 auto pre face lift,it frustrated me so much i swopped seats with my wife and she drove it further
@@driaankotze8738 i am not a CVT fan at all but i really like the CVT in our 1.5 ex pre facelift. The 1.0 7 speed has now been known for problems i drove one and it's by far the wors gearbox i have felt in a new compact SUV on the market.
Keeping in mind that esthetics are subjective, I have to say I don't like the look of the car. The front looks like they didn't know what to do to make it look different. Some of the lights remind me of the current Pajero Sport, but somehow they make it work. Side reminds me of the Kiger. I'm sure it's a great car but just on what it looks like, I would never consider it. Lekker review.
Great Review, but Kia is doing a VW on us. The Suzuki Fronx/Toyota Starlet Cross has tons more (modern) features. Unless the Sonet drives supremely better, The Suzuki's a better buy at 360k top of the range 'cos its spec list is impressive. At 400k Car Manufacturers are still fitting halogen reflector lamps, knob job a/c controls, plastic steering wheel and exterior indicators on the fenders...?
Going by the sales numbers of your beloved brand most South Africans don't agree with you on the awesomeness that is Kia. Nothing spectacular on the spec level you rumbled on about at this price range.
As someone who owns the previous generation Sonet and bought the EX for 307 brand new, this car is overpriced to another level and kia are leaving way to many features and important things out. With the service and parts costs will much rather buy Chinese next
You will feel the difference in the quality, though. But the Chinese brands are offering really good value for money. Which features are you missing? Also bear in mind, ALL cars have gone up in price. It's not just a Kia issue.
I also bought the ex when launched for 285 k, was a opening special. I looked at the new EX and there is a alot more than mine. Kia didn't remove features, I looked quite thorough. The new ex comes with extras that the previous model does not have. Auto gearbox, drl, split seats, cruise control, auto folding side mirrors, theres more just cant remember. Keep in mind the rand was R 14 to the dollar three years ago. Also the Kia models are more expensive than the chinese but the chinese have higher fuel consumption, So you wil pay. Go to new car deals. I got a quote for 380 k for the new sonet ex model. THat is with registration and on the road costs.
@@julietmcguire Vanity mirors. One touch windows, 6 airbags as standard.soft touch materials on the dash. I've been in the new SX top of the range it's identical to the EX in feel. A base model new swift has 6 airbags it also has one touch for atleast the drivers window. These small things seem like nothing but if you get into something like a Beijing x55 if feels much better built and drives much better. Same with the jaecoo J7. We have had bad service with kia too, my mother has driven only kia for 13 years and when the dealer tells you they aren't replacing the wipers even though you have a maintenance plan and a service costs 3.5k and they charge 1400 for a rear wiper. It's more expensive to service the sonet than it is to service a BMW x1.
@@lcacaccounting2112 if you go look at the features that the indian market get where it is built we miss out on a lot. same with every single kia currently on sale in this country. 800k for a sportage and no 360 camera with less power than that same motor made in the previous model. We pay the most for these cars compared to other markets like Australia and get the least. They used to give you everything up until 2018 like the cerato we had and optima.
