Like most of his female characters they sadly passed on but still forever haunting the minds of the protagonist tormenting them with the guilt of not being able to save them and driving them mad. Such as Poe in real life couldn't save his bio mom , his foster mom and his wife form different diseases he became helpless in these feelings just like the doctor . Poe escape though writing & drink.the doctor though delusions that his child is still alive .
I could totally see that, he starts becoming more and more delusional with each passing moment and starts thinking that we're his daughter so his mind doesn't have to come to grips with the fact that she's gone.
This was surprisingly wholesome until the ending bit. Now I wish for a part 2. Oh, the writer in me demands it, could almost see it. It could be the Listener spends their time with the doctor and then comforting them over their loss of his daughter. Or, after that, the doctor turns yandere and wishes for their Listener to stay with them, chasing them through the mist. All because of the pain of losing his precious daughter. Whew, sorry about that. Anyways, big fan! Love your work!
