- Part 2 of John McGuinness' Inside The Passion episode.
Dreamt up, filmed and edited by Andrew Shim for Shimmy TV.
Here are Andrew's words:
I'm actually sad to be posting this cause it means it's all over, but here it is!
It's been such an amazing experience filming this episode and kick starting my new series! Unbelievably lucky to have had the chance to film with someone I've been a fan of for so many years and be able to call him a friend! Massively grateful to John and Becky for their generosity and for looking after me for the past year, and more importantly allowing us all in to their lives!
I once siad to John, If he never raced bikes, and I met him in a completely different environment, I'd still say he's a legend!!!
Hope you guys enjoy it :)

I´ve met John with his entourage on a camp site in Holland in 2012.Just when he came back from Suzuka 8hrs to take some rest.I was about to spent my hollydays there with my family.I saw his motorhome and him flipping burgers in front of it and said"You focking kidding me...John McGuinness ...I´ll be damned" and it took me much too many beers to man up and go to talk to him.I was so so star struck.I talked 45 minutes to him(I was the only one who knew him there) and will never forget one thing he said after I asked him "You´re racing the IOMTT since 1996...how many times have you crashed there?" He said"Never...and its not in my book either".I was utterly blown away.I raced short circuits for 5 years and ended in hospital 4 times and he raced the most dangerous daring exhausting frigging fast road race in the world for 20some years without crashing ONCE?How much of a talent is he???An amazing racer and what a humble and likeable guy he is-I never wished eternal life on anybody but my kids so hard, like I wish it for John and his family. Thanks for this video-I´ve never seen anything better.
thats awesome
It's a shame all sports personalities aren't as humble as John.
He is such a nice guy, and a legend.
Absolute legend and genuine bloke. .
What a nice lad John McGuinness is and he has a lovely Family also. He is an out and out Supporter of Road Racing. Well done in all of your deserved achievements, especially your MBE. Great to see that you are back with Honda at TT 22. Keep up the good work John.
Such a Legend and so humble. An example to all
It just shows you they are an average normal family but dad does a dangerous job that he loves. John has a great wife that supports and loves him.
Bec is utterly golden, isn’t she? Very hard loving her husband & family as she evidently does, right from childhood sweethearts, yet give him a kiss & a hug then see him off, knowing it’s not impossible he won’t come back.
By the way, just love the music selection on this film, perfectly frames what’s happening. Nice seeing Dean Harrison towards the end.
Man, I hate that John is getting up there in age. I wish I could watch him ride for ever. He's still a beast though and will always be the best. I'm from the U.S and my dream is to go to the tt. Someday hopefully
A true legend, I love to show his riding to people here in North America and Canada who have no clue about the Isle of Man TT race, just about how normal he is not all show like other sports. A true legend and genuine husband and father.
I used his "Morcombe Missle" video in a situational awareness presentation for 250 people at work, it was great to look down from the stage and see them all leaning thru the corners and trying to count trees going by. No-one knew who he was and the achievements he's made in the sport. People came up to me afterwards and said it was the best presentation over two days!!! so thanks for the footage John, watching you fly by on two massive projector screens with everyone leaning left and right was a great moment!!!
Andrew...
Regardless of production costs and values, this film was nothing short of epic. As a fan, I sat there glued, telling myself how good, how unique, funny, entertaining and insightful this was. Seriously, as a fan, this is right up there alongside ROAD, and TT3D. Because, like those great shows, yours focussed on something different, and more importantly, you did it different. Watching John in his real life, and watching him accept you as part of the family, we saw what Johns life was really like, how he acts, what makes him tick, and what he values. And it was nice to hear from Becky just how much John remembers what it means to be a fan, and how he knows it's important to appreciate them and give back to them, without disappointing them. Well, you, in collaboration with John and his family and friends, HAVE given something amazing back to all McPint and all other road racing fans. You gave us something we might never have otherwise experienced. So, to you, to John, Becky, his family, friends and anyone else involved in this production... THANK YOU. This film was a fucking belter. I might suggest you drop this onto DVD and get it sold. Because it will, like hotcakes. From now until long after John is decrepit and grey, this film must be saved & treasured in perpetuity because this kind of thing may never be achieved again. And hey, if you can convince any other rider to take you in as generously, selflessly and openly as John and the McGuinness's did, I think you should do it again. Brilliant, truly brilliant!
- With kind regards from a Pommy fan in Perth.
Yes, what he said ☝
True !! I just wish he put a mic right on Mr. McGuinness so I could here him better , other than that it was SUPER FANTASTIC !!!
Reet got to agree with you here bro
You'll be alright. Ya won't feel much if it hit ya 😂😂😂😂 what a legend
Went to England in 1987 to play soccer. I was 15. Had the best experience one could have. Will come back someday to show my Family how great John McGuinness and England is.
John may idolise Joey Dunlop, and rightly so for the many accolades he won as a racer, but as and icon for the sport, for what he has done to raise the profile of road racing and motorbike racing as a whole with his own prolific portfolio of wins but also for his personality and understanding of people who love the sport and his own fans, John has eclipsed his own hero. Somewhat a reluctant hero, always a gritty and tenacious racer and competitor, Awesomely skilful and talented rider, all round great bloke and this short film encapsulates that beautifully. Well done Shimmy, y'done good there.
Absolutely superb - honest, non showy and completely transparent film making. A triumph - many congratulations
Couldn't have put it better. Just brilliant in every way.
Couldn't stop watching!!!!! Fantastic!!! We race sidecars at the TT and we park opposite John and Becky, everything hey are on camera is how they are at racing, natural, friendly and infectious. It's been a pleasure to watch something so real! No bull, just pure...... Thank you
Great vid!👍 Great man John!! Greetz from Holland
I love the freedom of just mud plugging as a family. “Keep it pinned”, advises dad. What a dad! Mine would just have told me to fuck off.
Wendy & Peter Pan. Very attractive attitude the pair of them. Lord, keep them both safe from harm & let them grow properly old together. John’s done it old school, plus incredible talent. And I like Bec, just from the bluntness & affection she shows.
Thoroughly enjoyed this, thanks.
What a cracking bloke and a lovely family , he deserves all the successes he has an more .........
Bought his book off him at brans hatch , just one of a couple of occasions I’ve met him, he’s a complete gentleman and all round nice guy . 👍👍
Wish I could click LIKE x1000, that bit with the boots cracked me up and is exactly what a down to earth normal guy would think like. Deserves all the success, then again there's many more TT riders who also deserve the same as are sound guys.
I dont have to meet JM in order to know he is a class act. I have always felt like he was one of us normal folk that appreciates what he has..great job with this..John we all are pulling for you bud!!!! I hope you show him these comments shimmy!! He needs to hear how loved he is bf IOMTT 2021.
I agree, this bloke is a legend and it's nice to see his hearts in the right place where he cares for his family and friends too. Not a selfish bone in his body. I live down in south Wales and I have family in morcombe living round the corner from him.
whiteblurr thing he's such a great guy!
McPint seems like such a humble guy...God bless you John and your family and all the best with that horrible injury you have..
rearly enjoyed the videos. he is a British LEGEND you can't get away from that. hope to see him raceing for a few more year's. Good luck. to him and the family.
Great relaxed and totally at ease video and brilliant sound track too , brilliant cheers
I don’t know how many times ive seen videos of these road racers when they’re passing and it always takes my breath away.I need to witness a road race live.
What a class act John McGuniness is. Great film, really enjoyed it.
Kenny Christie glad you liked it!
John... we love you, because you are a authentic; you are the Motorcycling to the 100%.
These episodes are magnificent. Thanks Shimmy TV.
What fantastic person and a lovely family, great video Shimmy.
I have to say the most thing that impressed me was the maker of this documentary the ways it's put together and is so deep and touching is a testament to his skills well done shoe u must have great heart and sole the way u could get that connection and bring across on screen with the whole family perfectly put together material 👌👌
Farmer Tom thank you for your kind words buddy, much appreciated!!
I'd say that's the best thing I've seen all year, but as it's only January that'd be doing it a disservice. Ace videos, 100% enjoyable and what a lovely bloke. Road racing is very special and John seems to embody all of the best bits of it. Ace, thank you for making this. :-)
Behind every great man is a fantastic family and a backbone of a wife .
what an absolute genuine fellow. be in your corner again this year john. all the best mate ride safe
I loved both parts for the simple fact John had no problem with this being done at all from what can be seen and 2 you seem so happy and your so involved with it being a rider yourself. lived every minute.
Top quality video shimmy what a genuine down to earth bloke John is after all he has achieved still easily approachable always got time for his fans. Also has his great family by his side at all times. Great watch this was loved it well done 👍👍
Love it that this video has not one single dislike and rightly so. Brilliant insight to the great man.
Love this stuff, shimmy. John's a legend, loved his comments about footie. I got taken to old Trafford and I was shocked - pure barbaric hatred! Nuts. Give me the TT any day, best event in the world, awesome crowds, awesome riders, awesome scenery.
belfasthuwcyn Huw this ^ 100% agree.
Thank you Andy Shim that was a fantastic insight of John and the family.
OLIVER HARDY it's my pleasure!!
Great choice of music..Hell of a man this John McGuinness ....
Utterly brilliant experience for me. Why can't all competing sports folk have at least a smidgeon of the attitude of this bloke? Thanks Andrew. Will be looking out for more of this. Keep the scripting to the minimum. Brilliant!!
it was a real natural video felt like was part of it good job mr shim.
and thanks mr mcGuinness for letting us in your private time. love from Barbados.
I love this guy and his family is also awesome...
He is a Legend and the King of the Mountain.
Kugel Hupf true legend!
What john has achieved is astonishing helmets off to him real good attitude compared to some riders tried for years to meet him and when I did I was stuck for words true hero at least he signed my fleece 😃
A really enjoyable insight in to the life and times of a true biking hero. Great job Andrew and thank you John for letting it happen.
Cracking job you you were able to show what a great fella he is and his great family...real people
Fantastic documentary! Always admired John and his phenomenal racing achievements, he always comes across as a true gentleman and this just confirms what a Legend he is! No airs or graces loves his family and loves his bikes and pies, Respect what a guy! Looking forward to seeing him get another few wins this year on the new Blade.

a living legend. truly inspiring
Andrew thanks for doing this and thanks to the McGuinness family for allowing you to do this..very cool and interesting. Wish I was with you while you were taping. My God McPint is a very down to earth individual and the love he and Becky have for one another..Thanks again KJ ... and the music wasn't bad either ..
What a cracking documentary! iv met John a few times and talking with him is so easy and enjoyable, he really draws you in and makes you part of it all and has a laugh! it is always more than a few words and he is always so eager to talk about bikes, racing and life in general! It really comes across in this! well done shimmy, you really did a cracking job here!
david Kerridge thank you for your comment buddy, super glad you liked it!
This was brilliant. Definitely captures the essence of the man.
Top bloke, met him in Lancaster once, had a good chat due to our love of the mighty Belle Vue Aces, nice to see Jasons and Darcys speedway bikes in there.
Thank you so much for putting this together. Confirms what I've always thought that John is a good guy and deserves all he has achieved and I wish him well in the future.
Mike DeMott really glad you liked it! John's an awesome man and the family is great!
John is an amazing bloke. I love him
shimmy, best youtube video ive seen in the last god knows how long!!!!!, keep up the great work
Benjay1975 thanks brother!!
Yes a good watch...Are you planning on doing similar videos with other riders too...How about Bruce Anstey ?
I'm a huge Fan of John, you are my hero
John Mc is the reason at 44yo I bought another fast bike. I have always owned cruisers, but after watching John I wanted to see what I was missing.taking a corner at 70mph and knowing he takes them at 170mph is just nuts! He is a such a nice man,so humble, and loves his family. Michael Dunlop needs to take a few lessons from JMc on humility and remembering that us fans matter as well. Joey Dunlop,John Mc,and Guy Martin will always be my favorites, not bc of all the wins, but bc of the men they are/were.
Best thing ive watched in ages, hopefully there will be more like this from you soon, thumbs up shimmy 👍
Thank you for doing this. Great video
A superb insight into a John and his family.
I love Johns take on football, spot on, couldnt have said it better.
"One of them throw in things" lol
thanks shimmy, amazing insight into johns life and story. what a great project youve produced. 10/10..
david baxter thanks fella!
Another brilliant video thanks. Keep them coming.
A great family, good luck with your riding John . Thanks for the video.
what a brilliantly put togethor bit of documentary.
one serious problem with this video that been youre going to have to make a few more of them before we're even half satisfied! quality music and awesome to see john outside the world of racing! always been bang on with me and old man when we've seen him about!
Sam Lightowler 😂 that's a good problem to have!!!! Glad you like it, more to come!
Hope they're coming soon! you going over to the north west and TT this year? be nice to see you about
absolutely brilliant film loved every minute thanks to john family friends and shimmy tv see you at this years tt
shimmy, super stuff. Super gladiator John and all the gladiators of the island. What life would it be, without the TT. Respect to the gladiators.
Absolutely brilliant
Yet again the soundtrack was sick!! Great job man.
What was the opening song love it
Keep up the great work shimmy 👍brilliant videos
I just read your book Johnny and enjoyed it a lot, thanks for being as you are
just found this and watched it what a brilliant documentary.couldnt work out who you were at first then it clicked well done hope for more.
Bro this was a really good series I'm sad that it's over. Hope you do more similar to this
Iam a really good english spoken person, I learned most of it in USA as a foreign exchange student. I guess I can say that most of the time my understanding rate varies between 80% and 95% of what they say in the movies and music in general but I must say that I never found anyone as dificult to understand as John Mcguinness !
absolute quality production.
superb production, luvd it, thanks.
Cracking documentary much appreciated.
nice 1 shim! hurry up with the next 🏁
andy bowyer I'm on it brother!!
Top films Mr Shim....what a Gent, good of him to let you do it, hope he does well in
this years TT with Norton.
13:42 best quote ever. "Be alright, You wouldnt feel much if it hit ya"- John McGuinness 🍻👍
What a great job on this!! John wont see this but that's ok. I look up to very very few men in my life, and JM is one of them. Not only bc he is the best road racer in history(apart from JD), but also bc he is a super nice dad, good husband, humble man,and he realizes that old leathers are still good leathers. He worked his ass off to get where he is! I love to see John spank these young skinny, cocky lads each year at the TT!! He is truly a man I look up to! Also the reason I own 2 VFR750F Honda interceptors. Keep kicking ass John!! We are all pulling for you and believe in you!!!!
I back everything you wrote except I don’t want him to push to beat the fresh, talented youngsters. They’ll take risks a mature racer won’t. So I’d rather John never got another podium if the trade off is he gets to retire healthy.
@@GT380man this 2022 TT was a good one for JM. I think he did as good as he could. I believe he has come to a point in life that pushing for a podium is not worth the loss he could endure, not only for him but his kids and family. He will always be my favorite…

Epic!!! Great video....thank you so much for making this
Mate great Film can't wait to see more and hope i get to do some track days with you at some point!
Very very few men in my life have I looked up to.. my dad,and john mc. Its bc they both do what they say, stay humble, cherish a dollar even with a million!, and put family 1st..i would follow JM if he never won again, because of the humble man he is...He loves his wife, loves his kids, loves his racing,in that order...LLTK...WE LOVE YOU JOHN THE MM!!!
I've met John at TT Races every year for the last 10 years. And at Bellevue speedway. John and his family are the best in the business. Down to earth. Know where they come from. You can't meet better people. Than the TT family
Met John a few times he has always got time for people
This is brilliant. He should make a series ‘At home with the McGuiness’es’
Excellent! A "real" personality!
What a great production, genuine and very interesting, absolutely loved both parts. I do hope you manage to cover some of Johns action this year 2018. Will look forward to whatever you do, great stuff.
This was wonderful.
Well worth reading his book, Built for Speed. Bikes, Beers and balls of Steel. He's got them in plenty. A cracking read of his life.
What LOVELY people.
Great format and production quality. Enjoyed every minute of it.
