I am requesting you make a separate video of just How to Change / properly Adjust the BAIL and the wire bail Springs on old Cardinal reels in careful / slow time as these reels have difficult bails to fix. Please .... You are the expert ! Thank you. 🧐🤔🙂
Not the finest by a long chore. The early ones had plastic to metal parts which broke. The bail arm springs weren't the easiest for maintenance work. Having said that I haven't come across a reel that does have easy to maintain bail arm mechanisms. Not saltwater proof either. Good reels once the materials of construction were sorted. At the end of the day each to their own. Regards Stephen
Hello everyone. I need a little help. I have a worm gear shaft that is for a Zebco Cardinal 4 or 6. They have different part numbers. Can anyone tell me how to identify which it is? Is there a difference in length or something else? Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
zebco and abu is the same. zebco was the distributor for abu reels in the early seventies in the us. the model parts of the Cardinal 4 and 6 are comparable with the 44 and 66. the part number for the gear shaft is 9878 (cardinal 4/44) and 8610 (cardinal 6/66). So i guess there are differences in the masurement. unfortunately i have no 4/44 but three 66. the length of gear shaft is 58mm over all, the diameter in the region of the bell housing is 10mm and 8.5mm in the section of the gear. ...hello from germany...dirk
I'm restoring one but not painting it. What's best for getting the white ashy look off the black plastic parts, like the spool and knob handle? Also, my drag is has a bump to it, a throb if you will. Is that typical of the Cardinals? It makes me think the shaft is slightly bent, maybe? Thanks!
It's not that easy to chip off. Keep in mind this reel is at minimum forty years old and has been set down hard on banks and boats thousands of times. It's possible that as it ages it comes off a little easier but if you aren't careless with setting them down it's probably going to last longer than your interest in using them.

here on youtube you can reduce the speed and can watch it in slow motion.
Finest fishing reel ever made. If one were made like this one today, it would be $1500+. Wish I could get my hands on one that doesn't grind!

Would be nice if you could see it being rebuilt at normal speed.
So how easy is it to chip that paint? Do you fish this reel?

Do you have 155 to show me in side?
Mute time. Lol
On a 66
Shitty camera angle, too fast at times. Too bad, because it seems like you know what your doing.
Su angulo de enfoque muy pesimo no se ve nada de la reparacion
