Thank You! I was able to pick up two of the same reels over the weekend in the 6000 size. Like the one in your video, they were heavily fished. Looking to breathe new life into them.
Great video, I was going to do that to my fin-nor 4500 offshore reel I bit sticky when I turn the handle not sure why hasn't been used for a while knowing my luck I'll probably break it😁
Dennis. Are you familiar with an Abu Garcia Cardinal 909 that I got over 28 years ago. It is a massive all metal 3 bb saltwater reel; perfect for the big fish, rays, and sharks. It is heavy but my son-in-law no.w loves using this reel. He caught a giant red drum at Sandbridge Beach in VA two falls ago. We’re going back there this fall. You can fish at the beach, the back bay, and even some freshwater rivers all within 2 miles. I’ll try to dig out that 909. It is still in the box. I’ll send you some photos. I’m interested in your opinion. I bought that reel when I still knew very little about reels. -- Chris
Reels sure to get neglected by a lot of fishing reel owners. It makes me wonder what percentage of fishermen regularly maintain their reels. I service all mine, usually annually, so that I always know that they will run smoothly out on the water. I offer my services to my fishing buddies so their reels don't suffer, either.
Thanks - it is easy to ignore the service and cleaning after a long day on the water, travel, etc. A lot of folks fish them until they break and then buy new. An ounce of prevention is a lot less expensive, but I would bet that lot more than 50% do not service the reels annually and a good percentage never service their reels - Dennis
I’d say 70 to 80% of my 250+ spinning reels have metal cases. I’m rapidly getting to the place with arthritis in my hands that I may need to get an electric screwdriver. If I got one it would have to nave speed control and a lot of torque settings on it; I’m going to put that off as long as I can but I’m already having injections in my wrists for sharper tunnel and in my finger joints for arthritis. I have to wear braces on my arm and hand too. I’m just getting old I guess. I looked at nice used reels like this one on EBay and they averaged around $39.00 plus shipping.
Electronic screwdrivers are OK but remember to leave the screw a turn short of tightening and then finish the rest by hand as long as you can. That will eliminate the overtightening and risk of shearing off the screw head. Also, if you can initially break the screw hold by hand before using the driver to unscrew, that will eliminate flaring the slots, This is particularly true of the Phillips heads - Best wishes Chris - Dennis
@@2ndChanceTackle I honestly blame a lot of my hand problems on playing keyboards (piano and organ) so much of my life. I started when I was 7 and played and practiced every day until I was 60 years old. I haven’t done it since because of my vision loss. There is no joy in it anymore.
Wonderful video! Very thor ough, yet you briskly kept moving along. Just the way I like it. Thank you 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the note and for watching

I'm not familiar with that one Chris. I'll have to look for it - Dennis
What are the screws under the line and on the side of the reel
Hmmm - are you asking about the rotor plate cover screws? They give access to the spring and trip lever assemblies that work the bail
