Thank you for the video and thank you for mentioning the workers who are keeping us going throughout this pandemic.

I’ve lost count of how many parts I’ve bought on EBay! I have to admit given my recent experience with a Bretton oscillation slide I do not like plastic oscillation pieces or plastic parts in general. A friend of mine helped and did all of the work but we replaced that Bretton slide with a hand machined copy made from a solid block of a aluminum. That is a beautiful gear in this Cardinal. I just don’t care for the oscillation mechanism. You did a great job on this reel to keep it going.

I now have 6 of the Zebco Cardinal reels from Sweden. I have 3 Cardinal 6 and 3 Cardinal 7 and are considered to be saltwater reels. They are fine for freshwater as well. The mechanism is a beautiful worm gear drive with brass and stainless steel gearing. The drag, though small, is amazingly effective and strong. These reels are not skirted spool but rather the older cup style rotor and spool. These Cardinal reels from Sweden are highly prized by fishermen and collectors alike. I intend to use a few of these this summer for surf fishing. These reels have a lot in common with Abu you are working on. I like these teens very much. -- Chris

@@2ndChanceTackle Absolutely not! I’ve decided I’m going to sell a few of mine if I can. I just hate giving any of them up.

Great video Dennis. I just bought myself two vintage Cardinals (one 753 and one 754) for my collection - love fishing with them. Tight lines!

Sounds great! It's hard to beat some of these older ones. Literally and figuratively. Thanks - Dennis

You are going to have to find a used donor reel in order to get that part. It is no longer available from parts distributors. Try you local online marketplaces

I bought a 57 yesterday, but its interior is a little different from yours. And it is silent when it cranking.

These reels had several design changes over time that could account for the differences that you see - Dennis

Neat reel but the plastic crosswind block scares me. Another interesting video, Dennis.

Fair enough! I suspect that was the only material that would give a little and allow the snap to hold the groove. It is the first one that I have seen with that issue. - Dennis
