HOW TO ADJUST/ALIGN THE HOOD OF A C4 CORVETTE

- In this video, I discuss how to adjust/align the hood of a C4 Corvette. It’s a little tricky but definitely doable!
CORRECTION TO THE VIDEO: For the forwards/backwards/height adjustment (6:08 of the video), I missed a bolt on each side. Dang it! There’s a bolt down and to the inside of each of the two big brackets attached to the frame. The bolts are well hidden but accessible. Hopefully that makes sense. So, for this adjustment there’s a total of 10 bolts (5 on each side).😬

Just a tip from an old timer thats done one bucket load of hood replacing,,, run a strip of masking tape over the edge of at least one side of each gap, tucking it around both sides,, so if it moves a bit too much you dont chip the edge paint... also to make it easier, dont slack the off too much, and use a rubber / plastic mallett to GENTLY tap the hinge either way, not try to move the hood...thanks for YOUR info too mate, mine is very straight but from your info.. YEP my struts are dead like a few others here... 😏😏😏 keep the C4 info coming we ALL LEARN FROM IT...
Eddie C4 Australia.
DUDE that PAINT JOB is AMAZING!
THANK YOU!!!! 17 body shops have told me "NO" for hood alignment. Number one excuse, The car is too old. No one will take my $$ and I have made it clear I don't expect a warranty, just give it a shot.
Great video!
I just bought a 1990 C4 last week and I just learned by your video that my C4 doesn't have hood struts.
Time to put those on my list.
My hood no longer makes an ungodly rattle over any kind of bump in the road. Thank you so much for posting this.
Thank you helped me fix the gap on my 93 c4.
I also have a sweet 89 C4 sure appreciate your videos keep them coming my brother Corvette!
Fantastic, it was extremely well done. Perfect amount of details and demonstrations for actual c4 owners!
He's a good dude...seems humble 😊
Thanks. Big help for my C4 hood. I pulled it off during my engine rebuild and its slightly touching one of the door edges.
Super helpful! The hood on my 85 needs some pretty big adjustments. Now I know how to fix it! Thanks!!
I just bought my first Corvette, an '85, yesterday. I'm brand new and ignorant... do you have both the scissor/folding hood support (which is completely broken in two on mine) and the pair of lift supports, or just one or the other? I've got to replace the battery, but I can't do that until the hood stays open.
Downforce to close? Hood poping up? I just found out my hood struts are dead
You should get the proper grey 8mm Delcore Packard plug wires and black cap for it! It would complete your originality under your hood! Your plenum and runners and pretty much everything else look to be in awesome shape, no dents, dirt, oxidation ect.. these tuned ports are extremely hard to keep pretty.
Great information thanks for making this video.
A thousand times more beautiful than your car is Robyn!
She's a stunner!
Great video, I need to slighty improve the height of the hood and didn't really know how those big latching screws regulating the height of the hood work, will try losen the big nuts and then turn them with a flat head screwdriver, thanks!
I didn’t have to remove the hood prop on mine. All I had to do was push the hood prop rod past the stopping point. Did both on my own. Quick job!
Great video, very useful information just in case 😎👍🏾🔥💯, I own a C4 1987
Hi ryan,
I like the 89 tpi
I have an 87
Same wheels
Do you know how wide they are?
17 x 9.5?
Great video dude :)
Nice color...that dark blue is quite rare I believe...I've only seen one dark Blue C4
Great videos! Keep them coming!!
Thank you for the video!
Good info. My ‘87 only has the two small struts on the hood. I guess they added the bigger one in later years for extra security. Luckely I don’t have to adjust the hood on mine. Be aware that front bumpers on the C4 are not exactly straight, it’s a softer material.
Regards to your lovely wife.
Thanks for the inspiration and keep on trucking!
👍👊🙏
just a humble suggestion... please make sure that if you are closing up the gap between the hood and the doors, that you check clearances with the doors closed AND open. i have seen the edges of the hoods broken off from contact when the doors are open and you close the hood.
Thanks for this video.
Fantastic!!! Thank you!!
Interesting video. I've been looking for those small lift supports for a while, before I finally figured out I have to order them for 1984-88. They don't exist for 1991 even though they work/fit the same.
Why do all the ones on eBay say up to 88 because I've got a 94 and I'm wondering if they will work?
Gorgeous.... Corvette! Does the ZR-1 have similar struts to push the hood up? Mine is in storage right now so I can't look.
Great video
Thanks for the info
👍👊
Like your videos my friend.
I just bought an 88 z52 and this is going to help a lot.
Thanks!
Where did you get the mini struts?
I need to figure out some speakers for the rear
Well after watching your video made my decision to go with the 85 C4 corvette did you have problems with the theft system where I heard that I will end up getting a bypass
Nice! I haven’t had any issues with that on my ‘89.
I guess you missed a bolt on each hood hinge. It's a bit out of sight, below the two bolts attached to the frame.
Anyhow, now I know there should be bump stops on the hood! When I got my new (used) hood, those were missing.
Thanks for pointing that out. Not happy I missed those.🤦♂️
My hood is aligned just fine but when I pull the release it really doesn't "POP" up and open . How would you fix that condition ?
Could be a combo of the hood struts/support needing to be replaced and the height of your latch pins needing adjustment. If the springs around the latch pins aren’t really compressed, they won’t help pop the hood up. Just a few thoughts.
Quick question... I appreciate the help in the past. On this video.....do you know where I can get the attachment stud for the 2 lift supports? The ones with cotter pins? The interweb isn't helping me find them.
Google Volunteer Vette and Brads Corvettes.
@@ronnieunderwood1951 figured it out. The 89 only used the main support for lift, the earlier c4's used the little ones. When I search for an 89, only got the main big strut. Have an 85 now and got new ones for it.
@@patrickmorrison3316 Ok good I just got an '88 and I'm having some work done to it so I know it's hard to find anything for the older corvettes but these 2 are who my go to guys are when I need something.
Comment again on the lower side sill structural mounts that the previous owner installed. Why was that done by the previous owner? No other mods hint to why the side sill mods were done. Scratching my head.
If the hood opens and shuts correctly, don't worry bout it. Come on man!
Just because something opens and shuts correctly, doesn’t mean there’s no room for improvement. Come on man!
@@ReynoldsRides Improvement could be better focused elsewhere. Come on man!
"have"
You alot more to worry bout than panel gaps.
Like what? Do tell.
Really! You had to get the girl next door to help you?
Huh?
@@ReynoldsRides Sorry. I shot from the hip to quick. I didn't watch the entire video before making the neighbor comment (-;
