We had both a 7.5 and 9.8. As a kid, I used to take the 9.8 and leave the 7.5 for my dad. haha. Even just the sound of this running brings back some very fond memories. Thanks for posting. :)
Ive been running this motor with just gas im such an idiot. thank god i found this video before i did some damage..... 50:1 i see in one of your comments. THANK YOU-
Thunderbolt 110 are closer to 12 horsepower. In 1984 the regulations changed for Dyno testing outboard motors, because some of the manufacturers were under-rating their engines to beat the competition
Nice I dug out my old long leg non electric start, wish i could find the parts at a reasonable price! I'll be using it on a quicksilver 3.2m inflatable.
I would buy a 70s Mercury Andrea Lynne for the reason changing plugs checking compression ✔️ expeller and change up the coil .Clean the carb before replacing it
What blade prop do you have on? I have the exact same motor and am only getting 13.5 mph, if I convert kt correctly you are around 19 mph. Anything else you have done to achieve the higher speeds?
It's even worse this year for me, past weekend I was only getting 11 MPH. I have to find the rpm range of this motor, I bought a tach for it. I'm half wondering if it just needs to be tuned properly. Or the motor is just getting old.
Hey dog hey Doug my name is Tommy I like to know if you got a carburetor for that same model boat that you got there if you do contact me I would love to buy it off of you

My Grandfather had a 1981 80hp Thunderbolt so I have a soft place in my heart for old mercs.
Have you got any 9.8 carburetors for another old junk boat motor carburetor
Sorry I don't have any as I never had a 9.8. Always wanted one as a kid but never had one.

Oh my…how long did you run it for without oil?
@@Bigtime_mcalpine two 5 to 6 hours fishing sessions. Engine on and off. Lmao
@@TheVinDicarlowow. That’s a dry ass motor. What a tank
Okay so 9.8 Mercs are actual tanks. not even being run properly & still just chugs along anyway.
All this motor needs is the mixed gas right?

Sir you had it right to start with a little faster than a 9.9 .Andrea Lynne Inouye

Do I really need a demo of a well running 9.8 110 merc motor? Mine runs at this time only on 1pot. So how do I test for fire on the other cylinder?
My ‘82 110 thunderbolt on a 12ft v-hull Klamath will do 34kph, no idea what that is in nots but its got plenty of power for a 9.8
Agreed. 16kts = 30kph so that’s close and more than fast enough for a little tin boat.
I have a 102cc meant for a sail boat manual says 4 hp is there any way to get more out of the 102cc 2 stroke
Doubt it.
Nitromethane...
Hello, what kind of mixture do you make for your engine? What fuel connection do you have that goes into the engine? Regards
50:1 will do it. As for connector, just the usual strange looking mercury connector from 80/90’s motors
What is the black and red hose sticking out? I’m trying to rebuild mine and don’t know what I’m missing lol.
Those are the battery cables for the electric start
Sir a little gas ⛽️ line first of the season old gas fuel mixture or new clean my suggestion. Andrea Lynne love ❤️ your video

I’m only getting 13 mph too, that’s with 2 batteries, anchor, fuel tank, and light tackle

Hello, what is the maximum speed of this engine? Regards
I think it can go up to 20mph if I remember right. Just in case I'm wrong on this I'll say 15mph.
Ugh i got mine and its a beauty

By any chance so you know the part number for the carb gaskets?
I don’t but you may be able to find on marineengine.com
What is the maximum speed of your engine?
The 70 Mercury's have more power and aggressive sound. Sir
