  • Conserving types of rice we have probably never heard of! Meet Syed Ghani Khan.
In his farm in Karnataka, Ghani Khan preserves more than 1000 varieties of rice, many of them were part of our ancestors' diets and are now missing from the commercial market.
The rices have different colours, different scents and different growing conditions - this makes some varieties resilient to climate change!!
Ghani Khan hopes to introduce these rice varieties to the regular consumer. He distributes them to farmers, such that the rice variety reflects the local climate in their farms.
Greenpeace India is Cooking Up Change - celebrating India's nutrition diversity and local, indigenous varieties of food that are healthy, organic and resilient to extreme weather. Launching soon!
