      Sadly this is pretty common and they’re very protected from lawsuits.
      I had a very similar experience during my first birth but it was a planned cesarean and I still didn’t get enough anesthesia and felt EVERYTHING. The worst was when they take your uterus out, to clean it and put it back inside you. They literally shove your uterus back inside of you. It’s crazy 😭
      But they’re very protected.

    As a midwife, this sounds like a lot of mistakes from the healthcare workers. You don't give an epidural at 1cm, ever. You're not in the wrong for asking so soon, but your healthcare workers should have known way better and tried to ask you to wait a bit longer. Also def sounds like your water was broken that one time you went in and got sent home. And if you feel everything during a c-section despite the epidural, they're supposed to put you down completely. I'm sorry this happened to you. I'd definitely talk about this to a lawyer. Really.

    • @myyradanielle
      @myyradanielle Год назад +6

      There is no reason as to why you cannot get an epidural at 1cm if the patient is in pain.

    • @Ktxsh
      @Ktxsh Год назад

      @@myyradanielle please don't spread misinformation like this. dilation is promoted by walking, moving, changing positions... this can not happen if you have an epidural, as you're bedridden. for someone who is having their first child, going from 1 to 10 cm can take HOURS. tens of hours. laying flat in your bed for that long will only slow things down. with an epidural, you also need to receive continuous iv fluids as an epidural can cause bloodpressure drops. doing that for 10+ hours causes overfilling. read all that? that sounds like enough reasons to me.

    • @alyssadavis1183

      My doctor said it slows down the process by like 10-15 minutes IF that so it’s not really a negative… I got it at 1cm and had absolutely no issues. Women need to do what is best for them. No labor and delivery is the same and it’s unfair to make this type of statement that might make women feel it’s a one size fits all situation. It’s not.

    Wow I teared up when I heard this story. As a final year medical student who has assisted many C sections, I can assure you your experience was not okay. It is normal to feel some tugging during a C-section, but not every cut. It sounds like the doctors had many opportunities to top up your epidural or give you a spinal when you were close to needing a C-section.

    • @tashcaarey

      the fact she could put herself on the table says it all. i was lifted on the table, accidentally had my epidural ripped out when they moved me, and they still had to put me on the bed and hold me up for a spinal tap because i couldn’t move. when they were cutting me open i couldn’t even turn my head to the side, looks like she got the complete opposite end of my experience

      Completely agree! I think when hospital staff see a first time mom + a young one they always think they are being sensitive and dramatic or that they don’t know what they are talking about. I was a young first time mom and I was also sent back from the hospital twice. I now know it was my water that had broken but they kept telling me it was not. I ended up in a c section too but thankfully not as horrific as Amanda’s. I hope she can heal from the trauma. ❤

    Hey, Amanda! I hate hearing you had a very traumatic birth. I am a high risk labor and delivery nurse, so I see situations like yours very often. The emergency C/S was obviously very needed in your case, but there hasn’t been one time we haven’t put the mon to sleep immediately after the “test” if the mom can feel it. I would definitely pull your medical record, including the intraop, PACU, and fetal heart rate tracing with the annotations. This should absolutely never happen to anyone. It’s unacceptable. The anesthesia provider should have definitely given you a spinal dose through your epidural catheter on the way to the OR and should have immediately put you to sleep once the “test” failed. I also had a failed epidural so I understand your labor pain. I’m so sorry this happened to you, but I am so very thankful that the team of nurses and the OB delivered your sweet baby right away. I wish you the best of luck ❤

But my nurses and surgeon were all so relaxed and calm yet quick during the whole procedure. Once they cut me open they saw the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck 3x that's why she couldn't come out and was in distress. Poor little baby. Amanda I’m so sorry you all had to go through this! Please give yourself time to mourn and heal from your birth and definitely talk to someone they should’ve gave you more of your epidural from the moment you got it and weren’t feeling it my doctors sat with me and made sure my legs went numb and I couldn’t feel anything. I’m so sorry you went through this

    Wow, I didn’t expect that at all! I am truly horrified that you had to go through that whole experience. My mom had 3 C sections and one of those she felt like she wasn’t numb enough because she could feel something, she even moved and the doctor stopped the whole procedure to give her more medicine and then continue… I feel that they didn’t handle the situation humanely, it honestly reminded me of Bella (from twilight) giving birth, the way that you were cut open and screaming.
    As for your baby girl, I hope everything continues to be perfect and she doesn’t have to experience anything similar. You are one strong beautiful family ❤

    Thank you for sharing. You got me tearing up as i had a very similar birth experience! I also had a perfect pregnancy, nothing was wrong the whole pregnancy. When i went into labor i was pushing for 3 and a half hours, probably should have gotten a c-section as the cord was wrapped around babies neck twice, but they didn’t realize and I ended up having a vacuum assisted birth. Baby came out pale and not breathing and was rushed away from me, i had no idea what she looked like til 9 hours later when they took me to see her in the NICU. The next day they ended up transferring her to CHOP via ambulance where they did a whole lot of testing on her to make sure she was okay, along with her brain activity. She got to come home with us 2 days later.We got lucky because she is 10 months old today and perfectly healthy! Definitely traumatized from my birthing experience and upset it wasn’t how I imagined it. I feel for you mama!!

    first and foremost, i want to express how inspiring and strong you are for sharing. i am so sorry for what you endured, and your story takes so much bravery to tell and relive in such detail.
    if it helps at all, your story reminds me a lot of my own birth story (when my mom gave birth to me). my mom was in labor for 40 hours after days of pain and the doctors and the nurses argued over whether or not she should have a c-section multiple times. like in your case, this had a huge effect on my birth and the moments after my birth. after my mom had the emergency c section, they wrapped me and gave me to my mom for breastfeeding only for her to uncover me having a seizure. i'm not sure about all the events in detail, but i know that i had a blood clot in my brain & the doctors said a lot of things about my early development being stunted. i was on phenobarbital for the early years of my life and i had consistent check-ups regarding my brain development. lawyers came to my mom to sue the hospital for malpractice, since the hospital is cedar sinai in beverly hills (one of the best & most famous hospitals in LA) my family and i had an open case to sue the hospital until i was 18 years old, but my mom never went through with the case because she believes since she rejected the greed, i was blessed with perfect health my whole life.
    if there's anything i can share with you, i don't think those traumatizing moments of my birth scarred me at all and instead made me more grateful for miracles. so happy that you all are doing well since that tragic time. congratulations on your new baby, and i'm wishing you the best!

    It is horrifying that this is not a rare occasion. The United States is ranked so high for maternal mortality rates. I am so happy everything ended up being okay. I am your age and do not think I will ever have kids, it seems so dangerous in this country some times in more ways than one.

    This brought me to tears 😭 That's so horrific and absolutely traumatic. The way you fell asleep immediately was the way the C-Section should've gone. You shouldn't have felt *anything* at all waist down. My mom had a very similar experience, but she had much more hands in care. It happened because half her body didn't retain anesthesia, so she felt the cuts, but she has low blood pressure. So, to be able to take me out, they had to double the dose, and that almost took her out. Thankfully, she pulled through, but she previously dealt a lot with morphine due to health complications. I believe that sometimes makes you immune if used in excess. Maybe it had something to do with the type of anesthesia they put on you or idk if you are low blood pressure person. Either way, I'm so happy you're okay and the baby. It's so horrible, you should sue them for malpracticioning, there's no excuse to put someone without any numbing into a C-section. It's inhumane and unacceptable. The baby's part really hit me 💔 That's too heartbreaking, I hope you get to have many happier times with her. So you can both enjoy her ever being to the fullest, take care 🙏🩷
