If the M.2 is exposed on the motherboard then I suppose it can make it all look a bit smarter. Whether it helps performance......I know all M.2 drives dont run at the same temperature so whether this goes towards reducing temps will vary from person to person. They look smart enough though, thanks Mike and Kath......pleased to see no blood shed this time ;-)
haha i was glad to end this review without additional slits in my digits! With m.2 coolers, the drive generation is the key thing to know if you really need a cooler, Gen3 drives mostly all fine bare. gen4 slower drives can be ok but really a heatsink is recommended. Gen5 - just get a heatsink, or it will die very quickly
10:20 You mainly want to cool the controller and heat up the NAND. The RAM, if present, it's not really that important to be cooled but the controller usually get too hot and the nand too cold. This kind of cooler does the best for both. For context, some tests have shown that the NAND gets more wear if the temperature is too low.
Haha no blood lost lol Seriously an heatsink is great idea having used an nvme enclosure which surprised me as to how hot the unit got! Like the ease of fitment, low cost for longevity and stylish when you consider mbs vary in colour. The heat pipe seems good idea but not in practise, as you say its raised so better thermals versus narrow contact area🤔 Thanks for reviewing Mike and Kath have great weekend 🐈👍
Bought the pro version about 6 months ago and never had any problem with them and temps are higher If you put one above the graphics card, you will have higher temps compared to the ssd that's below the graphics card.. Easy to install on motherboard.
Good review Mike. That thermalrite M.2 cooler looks nice and blends well in the with the top plate of the gpu and the black mobo.Thank you for sharing this video with us Mike and Kath 👏👏⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Pretty much any lump of finned aluminium will work fine IF you get the thermal pad thickness (which can be two different ones for controller and NAND chips) exactly right. I use the depth gauge on a digital caliper, and even that isn't straightforward, you have to find the right places to measure from. I also use squishy mineral-based ones (Gelid) that allow a tiny bit of latitude, not the rubbery silicone ones that tend to be included.
I don't like the "logo-everything" mentality these manufacturers still have, most of us have moved past this now. If any manufacturers want to sponsor my rig, then maybe I'd fly their flags but until then...I repaint a lot of parts...😉
To be honest, I find the Arctic M2 Pro cooler pretty good. Yes, it's difficult to use but, in actuality, you install it once and then you are decomissioning it only after your SSD dies or you replace it. I bought 10 of them as I found them for 4 euro apiece tax included so I am set for some time.
hi mike grate video ? would removing the stickers on the m.2 improve its transfer of heat just like if you forget to remove the plastic off the CPU cooler.
Mmmm. Gummy. I've found all the m.2 Heatsinks to be within a few degrees celcius of each other when maxed out. Definitely better looking than the std cheap £4 amazon basic/akasa m.2 coolers
@@mikesunboxing they look kinda thick and I’m worried about it touching the GPU, I have a 4080S and unfortunately it completely covers my second SSD NVME slot, I was trying to look for a low profile heat sink but they’re kind of hard to find
Same price and actually has surface area (ironically also a Thermalright cooler). For a higher end cooler I'd be buying this, or for a budget NVME drive the second link. Appreciate aesthetics might come into play, but price to performance wise I reckon these are better options. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0B9229HNT/ref=sspa_dk_detail_6?psc=1 www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07KXSK13F?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1

I’ve used these on a couple of my builds and they work very well, especially for the cost.
yeah you can't go too far wrong with these at the low price

This time i watched before buying😆👍👏 keep it up, always useful advice and entertainment for reasonable products. Love it.
Thanks and thanks for taking the time to comment

thanks nick! and yes escaped this review without any nicks or cuts.

I would think that would work the other way arround. Do you use air cooler for CPU?
Good review Mike. That thermalrite M.2 cooler looks nice and blends well in the with the top plate of the gpu and the black mobo.Thank you for sharing this video with us Mike and Kath 👏👏⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
yes it does i think, and for the small cost it is a good investment

yeah the gelid strips are very good
I use another Thermalright m.2 cooler, the HR09 - far better cooling than just a lump of aluminium
i will take a look at it
The colour of the M.2 in German is called Anthrazit 😀
the cooler looks more than just cool.
Thanks for showing it 👍
thanks, i like the german names for colours, it reminds me of my car :-) i always wanted the helrot colour for my E36 BMW
@@mikesunboxing It's hellrot 😛
Glad you came through that unscathed. I wish it was black too to match my Pro4 board
yeah a few colour options would be nice
Looks nice. At least you didn’t sacrifice your digits to the gods this time.
yeah that is always a plus

yeah that is a good point actually

yeah it is good value, there is no problem with that.
hi mike grate video ? would removing the stickers on the m.2 improve its transfer of heat just like if you forget to remove the plastic off the CPU cooler.
yes it will the protective coatings need to be removed to get the most out of them
If you mean factory stickers directly on the M2 drives they are special and are helping with cooling - do not remove them.
Mmmm. Gummy. I've found all the m.2 Heatsinks to be within a few degrees celcius of each other when maxed out. Definitely better looking than the std cheap £4 amazon basic/akasa m.2 coolers
yeah true they all are very similar unless heatpipe or fan assisted
Is something like this better than the stock coolers on the board? My msi board has 2 covers and a bare m.2 slot
depends on the board but these are often very similiar performance to most of the more basic heatsinks
@mikesunboxing it's a msi b650 tomahawk
Do you think these would fit under the GPU?
yes they should do
@@mikesunboxing they look kinda thick and I’m worried about it touching the GPU, I have a 4080S and unfortunately it completely covers my second SSD NVME slot, I was trying to look for a low profile heat sink but they’re kind of hard to find
@@LordMuzhy these are about as low as you can get, or maybe look at the jonsbo ones we reviewed
