Thank you so much for the tutorial! I’m new to the cactus world and this video helped a lot. How long do you typically leave the scion banded before removing them??

I week should be plenty long enough.

Nice video! What is smallest rootstock you can use to graft? When is it better to do slab graft vs tip? So after 5-7 days, then what do you do? Do you feed after scion takes? Thanks!

You can use pretty small rootstock, but it becomes more academic at some point as a larger rootstock will promote more growth on the scion. I have recently used a plant that was 4-5 feet tall, and the scion just exploded after getting established on the vascular ring. The larger the plant the more established the roots are, and the more nutrients (energy) there is for the rootstock to push the scion. Slab vs. Tip? That is a good question. The tip takes off faster, but I often get more than one pup from a slab. Another advantage of the slab, is that you can quarter up a small pup. Tip + two slabs, and a butt graft (the bottom of the pup inverted on the rootstock). The slab's vascular ring is not parallel with the rootstock's vascular ring, so it takes more time for the plant to repair and build a connection to the rootstock ring. Once established, they both push at the same speed. Hope that helps.

@@kq6up Great points!!! I dont have as many root stock cactus so was thinking size but it makes sense to have a decent size to push max growth, which is my goal. I am not sure about a butt graft but will look it up. Thanks.

What is the Rootstock Speaces Please?

Trichocereus “PC”. Most likely T. Riomizquensis but nobody knows for sure. It is common as dirt in the US.

There are different opinions out there, but I like PC because it works, it is cheap, and it is plentiful.

So we should clean all of our blades & knives, cover them from dust etc. but it's ok to put those fresh cutting parts on the not so sterilized table, let them juicy surfaces touch to it. That's hilarious.

He re-cuts the scion right before grafting so that doesn’t matter
