Im late to this one. but I do remember reading in a 3.5 book I think. That kobolds can live up to 436 years old.. can most won't becauce of how dangerous the world is to them. And once they had a masive emprie that stretched across fey'rune there leader became so righ and had such a masive hoard they turned in to a dragon. Also Kobolts are happiest just digging for the tribe. Even before this the dragon's gave up there imortatily to give rise to the kobolds as a servent to mine gold and gems for them. On the topic of how popular gnomes are, i have recently joined a campaign where i am one of 4 gnomes, party of six with a half elf sorceress and a elf ranger. Its as close to snow white and the seven gnomes we have gotten.
I love this so much! It only helps my love for Kobolds grow so strong; even spreading my lore knowledge about these lovely hatchings!! This was a big help as well as I am building a Kobold character named Faessi, so once again thank you two!!
They are so cute. Lets be fair they are a species living in a world full of bigger nastier creatures that want to hurt, kill or subjugate them. They wouldn't mind a dragon though, and they are pretty darn smart so even if they could be "ruled" by big stupid nasties they probably would be the brains in secret. And they wouldn't fight out in the open either, traps and sneaking is all part of being small. So are they evil? Only because the world makes them that. Are the lawful? Of course, working together is the only way they survive. Now are they really EVIL evil. Or just evil because, and I don't now. Lets just say they didn't have a good start. It is the society that turns them the way they are. If you would take kobold eggs, hatch them and grow up them in a nicer area they might just make a great paladin or serve a temple. As long as they are lead well.

I always imagine kobolds being relentlessly wholesome within the context of their tribe. You're in the tunnels together, all with the same overall purpose and drive, you probably dont know everyones name but certainly the names of those working the same tunnel or the same shift. They also have to squeeze the word kobold into almost every sentence or use it unnecessarily as a descriptor It isnt just a rusty blunt knife i found, its a "kobold blade". It isnt "breaking and entering", its a "kobold caper". They also take credit for everything remotely commendable or valuable except where dragons are concerned.
Copper dragons have Kobolds and in fact love their Kobolds to the point where the copper dragon will look away from some of the mischief the Kobolds get into.
I grew up playing Asian MMOs and had also never heard of kobolds anywhere else despite being into fantasy, so I always thought kobolds were annoyingly tough dog-warriors. Imagine my confusion and disappointment. XD
Imagine you are playing a high level draconic sorcerer and encounter a lair of kobolds. You just casually sprout your dragon wings and make some high charisma speech "I am the blood of the dragon, bla bla" and have them all fall on their knees. Of course a fucking bard or wizard could just true polymorph themselves into a dragon... Why the fuck don't sorcerers get true polymorph? >
You guys should do a cast on the eusocial species in DnD verse. Myconids, Formians, Abiel that kind of stuff. I've always found those types of societies interesting and it would be cool to examine the differences between them.

Most info we share in any given episode has anywhere from 6-12 different sources from across all editions. Sorry, no Kobold exclusive info source is out there that I know about.

If your kobold trap tunnels don't give your players veitnam flashbacks, then you didn't use them to their fullest.

I didn't know kobolds are cowards. My only real experience with them is task in the unexpectbles d&d stream
