      YOU
      ARE
      CLEARLY
      ----------------> "HATING ON" MANON 😒
      1. Did you really watch the whole documentary or are you simply doing this (hating on her) just to fish for likes etc?
      2. Didn't you say you're from the industry? Since when does star power not factor into the equation when forming groups or choosing solo artists?
      3. Without Manon, I and a lot of people I know wouldn't even care about this group!
      4. You're from the industry, yeah? Then put your money where your mouth is…why don't you go and find your eliminated favs and create your own girl group. Let's see how far they'll go with their minuscule/barely there "it factor/star power!"
      *** BTW, I'm just a passerby (not some Manon stan or whatever) but even I can glean that you are "coming for" her for no da*n good reason!

    Lexi was my ALL TIME FAVORITE, and when mitra initially sends her home she was digging to get a rise out of Lexi. I’m so glad that Lexi didn’t give her the satisfaction or didn’t cry or respond with any type of drama, because that’s all mitra really wanted out of that engagement. She didn’t care about Lexi as a person only as a rating. I commend Lexis reaction to the elimination and acting on integrity. She definitely deserved a spot in the group but it is what it is…

      Also mentioning that during that final meeting, Mitra even mentions that Lexi had previously asked to leave and was denied, only to tell her basically "you're not breaking up with us, we are breaking up with you". This young girl showed more poise, rationality and maturity than a 40-something acting like a petty child. Lexi was always a fav of mine but on that scene she blew me away.

Look how idols are exploited by the label and all this for crumbs since labels take 90% of the profit. And all this to be tossed away by the label for newbies once you get old. it was really annoying that the girls were lied to because adela literally spent one whole year training and she was consisently at the top few spots but got kicked out just because of fan votes.. like if they wanted this to be also based on fan votes then they shouldnt have wasted the girls time.. imagine spending one whole year training and being lied to and js getting removed coz of 1 voting

    • @StarryHoshi
      @StarryHoshi 2 месяца назад +504

      This is exactly why I cannot agree with anyone who sees Adela as a villain (or in some cases, a raging racist apparently). Simplifying her attitude as "mean girl behavior" is so demeaning towards everything she and the original group of girls worked for. She's a girl from a tiny country who only wanted to accomplish her dream and had it blow up in her face because executives wanted to make a whole spectacle out of it. As soon as fan voting became an aspect she (along with Iliya) lost any and all chance of getting into the group considering her background and having no "homebase" of supporters who would rally behind her. Having a show where an executive literally smiles like a psychopath about how her evil plan to create public drama in a group of young girls worked yet the fans believing and acting like *those* exploited girls are the spawn of satan is insane.

    • @maaarrg
      @maaarrg 2 месяца назад +210

      it was so unfair to adela and the executives knew, that's why her leaving was the most broadcasted among all the girls that left, they wanted more "drama" and used her for it. Also she was one of the few to really speak their mind and name people for what they were doing, she was brave and that unfortunately came out as jealousy to some people watching... I think the group came out nicely at the end but they didn't need to hurt some girls so much on the process

They so wrong though, they really exposed themselves tbh, that most girls in the final 20 never had a chance in he'll. They all already had a top 10, rhe other 10 were just sacrifices for the reality bit. Very cruel. I get the girls' frustration with Manon. I just want to point out that Mitra was obviously farming for drama, and Manon getting to break rules before the survival show started was likely a part of that. A lot of the disconnect between them during the T&D process was ultimately down to a combination of miscommunication and cultural differences.
    Think about this: Manon is from Switzerland, upper-class, and not a Kpop fan. She straight up said that she was going to treat T&D like school where she could miss days when she was feeling unwell or unmotivated, and no one corrected her. Son even told her that it didn't matter if she was the best singer or dancer as long as she worked hard, and I believe she interpreted that as when she comes to practice, then that's when she puts in the work. We saw her taking notes during rehearsals, and Son even said that you'd never notice that she did if you watched performances after Fearless. I know as a fan that I didn't!
    But, in the girl's POV, they've been told for a year or 2 in T&D that putting in the work is what gets them to debut, but it doesn't. They were lied to! What was once a competition based on hard work is suddenly a popularity contest. A lot of contestants - even very talented contestants like Lara and Sophia - are getting voted for based on nationality and representation. And Manon, a new girl who got to break rules and miss rehearsals up until it was go time for Dream Academy, was an automatic fan favorite! I'd feel upset too.
    They worked it out, and I'm happy for them! If you watch Katseye's content, it's clear the girls have a great bond, so they're fine.
    Personally, I don't like the Kpop system of young people training everyday day - literally giving themselves injuries and ruining their mental and physical health - all for a small shot at fame. Lexie is way too young to be having hip injuries. Their shouldn't be a dedicated balcony in a house where girls go to have mental breakdowns. And a former trainee of the program revealed that she had to leave because she developed an ED. It's cruel, and if anything, I wish more girls got to take break more rules like Manon did.
    Still, there was literally no reason for her to not be following the rules of T&D without getting kicked out. So it HAD to be deliberate. Mitra said it herself - that drama gets views. And we're all talking about it; whether you think this reflects badly on her work ethic or are fiercely defending her, we're still talking. So much that it trended on Netflix and the show blew up. Likely according to plan!
    Anyway, stan Katseye and stream SIS is Strong! "My Way" is my favorite on the album. What's yours?

      @@SophiaZhu-zr2fl Influenced? I wasn't getting at that at all. I think she got away with breaking rules because of Mitra; I don't think Mitra deliberately put her up to it though. When Manon told her personal trainer that it's hard for her to stay motivated and she went to a school that allowed her to skip days if she was feeling unmotivated or unwell, I think Mitra took advantage of that information by letting her get away with the same behavior during training and development + having nobody really tell her the actual rules and expectations fr. Manon just did what she was used to doing in school. She's not a Kpop fan, and didn't really understand the whole trainee system that well. Otherwise, Missy and Son definitely would've told her something instead of the occasional comment about her being late or missing.

    People have got to understand where the girls were coming from with frustration about Manon. Contestants were getting cut for not being strong enough all-rounders and then they brought in essentially an Istagram model who was not notably skilled at either singing or dancing. Then you let her break rules, skip class and live alone and none of that matters the way it would if the other girls did it. Then fans like her because she looks good on camera (come on, that contrubuted the most to her "star quality" since she's not particularly charismatic or expressive.) But in the end I think Manon worked harder and improved her skill set a lot and I'm not mad she made it in the group... Though I definitely would have picked someone else if it were up to me... To act think she was the only one with star quality was crazy, the top ten, they ALL shined.

      But you need to take a step and really examine why you are upset, as did these girls. Manon did not look for this opportunity, it was given to her by the producers; she didn't manipulate her way to the top of the rankings, fans put her there; her discomfort with her skill level led her to breaking rules and the people meant to enforce those rules, excused her. There was a lot of ire towards Manon that was unwarranted. It's just confusing overall.

She had a point that people never gave them, specifically her, a chance to show their skills when the first elimination were, quite frankly, based on visuals.
    At the get go, Adela constantly ranked at the top in both vocals and dancing. Additionally, Adela said that she auditioned as a vocalist, so her being placed in the dancing category for the first mission was basically just the program killing her off. Her saying that it was unfair that Manon, who deliberately missed practices, being safeguarded from being eliminated due to the votes, is valid. Adela was also a team player, shown when we saw sacrificing her time mentoring the newly welcomed girls. It's also unfair for Adela to be called entitled when she said that she just wanted representation for Slovakia, which is what every other girl is also aiming for their own country.

    17:08 I really hate this whole argument because the reason there was lower views/engagement wasn't because of a lack of drama, it was just because of lack of content in general. Usually survival shows has 1 hour episodes where you see how everyone prepares leading up to the performance and the results. However, this show only had performances, judging and eliminations. I actually don't mind this format, because it makes the voting solely based on the performances (atleast in theory), but to then change it up for drama is so cheap.
    Also it must suck to be training for years, and then get judged and eliminated based on 1 or 2 performances. Truthfully, we never got the oppurtunity to see what each contestant had to offer in terms of talent beyond first impressions and "star quality".

The way each girl has a similar physique, and are conventionally attractive. It’s glaringly obvious how manufactured the aesthetic was made to be while trying to still be diverse. That being said, Manon most likely was pushed through each round based on she’s a pretty black girl. In my opinion, on top of her missing practices & her demeanor, she still was the least talented of all the contestants. She’s always put in the back, she’s given the lines in the song that don’t require much vocal talent. It seems like they compensate for that by giving her special parts (Having her stand on a chair and look pretty while everyone dances around her) No shade to Manon. As a black woman, I’m glad there is black representation in the group, but let’s call a spade a spade.
    I agree with everything you said. I feel they missed a good opportunity though. As the first international girl group, they had an opportunity to pick an a combination of girls that young girls can look up to & see themselves. Rather than a sense of entitlement, I feel like her heart just wasn’t in it. I think she was sincere when she said she felt intimidated by the other girls being so much more skilled than her, and that was compounded by the stress off being the new girl thrust into an environment where everyone else is already close with each other when you're shy by nature. I think she was unmotivated because she didn’t think she could measure up to the others skill-wise, and because this wasn’t really a lifelong dream in the first place. Then only when they went public and she found herself to be a fan favourite, did she realize she did actually have a shot and became more motivated.
      Ultimately though, whatever was going on in Manon’s head at the time, it manifested as poor work ethic and performance that were tolerated for way too long. I feel that the producers are more at fault for giving Manon so many get-out-of-jail-free cards, than Manon is for accepting them.

She got a lot of special treatment on the show… for example: she didn’t have to apply like anyone else, she got to take part with 0 training when another girl was sent home right before that for having 0 training, she broke the rules and got to stay when another girl got sent home for it, she got to live outside of the house even though she was one of the oldest girls there, she got to miss rehearsals with no actual consequences when they threatened to send Lexie home when she missed less than manon. It’s clear that they pursued Manon for her visuals and then because of that + the public liking her for being pretty (like Adela said even though she wasn’t trying at all at that point) pushed her into the end stages of the competition.

    I knew Manon was going to be in the group from the start from the amount of effort they were putting into building their character in the show. I didn't even know Brooklyn was there until halfway through the season and yet we saw Manon go out with her friend, see her sister, move out, etc. And the fact that they erased so much of what she did (her not showing up for rehearsal, the girls having to relearn things etc), leaving only tidbits we can gather from what they did leave in and she STILL looked like the favorite that was put there to be in the group from the start leads me to believe the situation was bad.
    If they'd done it privately, it wouldn't have mattered. But the fact EVERYONE can see it in the documentary just makes the band a weaker band. It's not about who worked harder for the american dream, it's a bunch of girls who had to fight for their spot standing next to Manon and that was not fair.

    It’s interesting that they stated that the target audience for KATSEYE is young and decided to portray the Manon vs. the world conflict to an audience they could assume would not be mature enough to witness a conflict (where neither side looks perfect) without starting a fanwar. I can only assume that on some level from a marketing perspective, this was a desired outcome. Bad press is good press, so they say.
    It’s true that Manon’s impeccable face card does carry her far, but she fits in the group perfectly. I agree that the hate for Sophia and Lara is out of control, and I would feel resentment if I were in their position. When you’re working so hard, seeing someone else being able to “coast” is frustrating and demoralizing. But also I can relate from Manon’s perspective how isolating it is to not be told directly what you’re doing to cause friction. (I also saw and immediately knew she’s a water sign-Cancer. As a water sign whose also friends with a lot of water signs, our “chill” aura can come off as careless and nonchalant, and even when we are working hard-relatively speaking-on the inside, it doesn’t show externally.) That said, I’m looking at their leaders in the situation because they’re the ones setting the tone. If they make it seem like Manon’s absence is an issue, the girls will follow that. If they announce like, “Hey, Manon, unfortunately has COVID and has to sit out for a bit,” I’m sure they would have been understanding. Since we weren’t shown Manon being reprimanded or talked to by the leaders, it reads as Manon getting special treatment/extra leeway while the other girls bore the brunt of it.

    The Manon drama has too much nuance that the general audience isn’t comprehending. Were the girls valid for being frustrated someone not putting in enough effort was doing so well? Absolutely. Should that frustration have been directed at Manon instead of the execs considering Manon was not responsible for fan voting, rankings, decision making, or eliminations? Absolutely not. The thing is that they were all very young girls without a fully developed frontal lobe so I don’t blame that at all, they’re still grasping that life isn’t fair and it’s understandable to blame Manon for that when you don’t get it. however the grown adult audience that can’t see neither party is the issue and there’s no reason to direct hate at Manon or the other girls, but at the execs that created this situation to begin with, have no excuse for not understanding the complexity of the situation.

    I used to, and it hurt my relationship with my self-image and the women around me. I've seen so many people "hate watch" things that they also idealize and internalize.
    The idea that we watch people verbally, intellectually, emotionally, psychologically, and sometimes physically abuse one another for our enjoyment baffles me.

If they had released it in a few year, they would have a much bigger body of content that showed that they had actually become friends, and that this was just a bump in the road. Like, Han and Hyunjin from Stray Kids said they used to almost get in fist fights predebut, but by the time they told us we already knew they were besties, so it became a funny "can you believe how young, immature, and stressed we were?" and not, I hated this bitch a month ago but we're all cool now, like, I don't believe you!

    i think its SO complicated to have an international survival show w different ethnicities bc ppl will often vote ppl from their country so ppl from bigger countries have a major advantage, i wish they used partially the i-land format where producers can save ppl and pick someone to add to final lineup so at least those with less votes could have a chance rather than calculating their votes into a % of the final votes. also it felt especially country voted bc there was no actual show to see personalities, it was just whatever short tiktoks they posted which is SO minimal. theres so many instances where trainees in kpop survival shows end up in groups due to a strong inseparable friendship w another trainee, their personality or as an underdog that overcomes adversities.
    imo i would have loved this lineup + adela as a 7 member group, or a group with lexie, ezrela and emily as those 3 had similar energy and vibes. after seeing the doco and seeing tiktoks posted later of adela helping the trainees like a big sis, them relying on her, her pep talks, her dance skills and even moreso her VOCALS, i couldnt help but root for her and wish her the best for her future projects. lexie i was so drawn to from the first impressions alone but her maturity, grace and strength to try continue the show after a very bad injury was SO admirable, ezrela was such a bubble of charm and emily had amazing presence, her dance skills are INSANE and she rlly showcased her ability to perform in the wannabe.

    As someone who followed along the survival show last year I always knew that this was messed up. That whole "revealing who you want in the group" thing was brutal. Seeing this documentary really shows that it wasnt just crazy, it was borderline inhumane. all these girls are so stong. i always loved lexi and ezerela but this documentary made me love them even more. I hope for the best for all of them. I will say though that the final lineup was pretty damn perfect. great mix of vocals dance and star quality.
    Oh, I also thought that they were going with a mature vibe for Katseye. But strangely their debut was... the literal opposite? don't get me wrong, 'Touch' was cute, but it was so different from what we were expecting. We've only seen all these girls, save for yoonchae, doing mature concepts. so it was a strange choice.

    I've watched some analyses of this show from the kpop fan lens, and I really appreciate your take as someone who is outside of the kpop fandom. Mainly, I've not heard anyone talk about Mitra as much as you have here. I walked away from this show wondering why the execs would want this posted. It makes Mitra, Bang, and execs in general look absolutely terrible. Keeping the fact that it was a survival show secret was genuinely cruel, and then having the survival show be hosted by a disembodied voice????? Cruel on top of cruel. I am a kpop fan, and was a viewer of the "survival show" as it was coming out. I knew nothing about the girls, didn't know about their personal instas for whatever, and was voting purely from the performances (which....that first mission being half dance and half voice?? voting amongst all of them is apples to oranges but I digress).
    This survival show they threw them on felt half baked, and clearly (to me, at least) it *was* half baked, because they had to pivot due to Bang's statement that they debut as fast as possible. There was a moment in one of the "Judge's feedback" for a mission where someone said something along the lines of "Manon is good, she just needs to show up to rehearsal." And I remember being so taken aback by that comment, because we weren't seeing ----any---- behind the scenes of the training process or knowing anything about the girls, and this was the only (iirc) comment that was explicitly negative on something that was happening in the training process. I remember it feeling like an evil edit, because viewers of the show had nothing to go on.
    Lexie was right to leave, and I wish that other girls would have followed her. I understand why they did't, tho. I walk away as a viewer of the survival show and the doc as someone who would be hesitant to support Hybe x Geffen projects in the future at all. Mitra's willingness to say everything that she did leaves a terrible taste in my mouth.
    I'm wishing the best for all the girls in the program. The lineup could have been made with many combos of six, and I hope that they all find the place where they shine brightest. Emily especially, she's a star. Also, shoutout to the vocal coaches. They come out of this whole thing looking like saints. So encouraging, so warm, I am glad that the girls had them in their corner.

    The thing is a lot people feel like manon and the other girls were both in the wrong in some shape or form the girls were wrong for isolating her but Manon should have took things more seriously. When it comes to the group manon is the it factor of the group she literally has 600k followers right know on Instagram compared to the other girls who have 400k to 300k. I do want to bring up the fact Emily is a great dancer but a lot including myself felt like she was just a great dancer not really a pop star during voting we didn't hear her sing at all so lot people didn't think she was a singer so if that help with anyone perspective from someone who was a part of voting.

She even gained votes and her rank rose to Top 5 after Mission 3. She was so good in Wannabe and she showcased her better vocals in the finale song All The Same.
      But anyway, it's great that she's now getting more recognition and support after the documentary. She's so talented and hardworking. Hopefully, Emily will get better opportunities in her own path.

    My disagreement on Manon. Let me preface I watched the entire series. I’m a trained dancer/singer, with knowledge on K-pop….but I’m no expert 😂. I have no favorite girl, and wish them all the best. Love kaytseye and each girl that didn’t make the group 🩷 this is long too 😭
    Anyways this is a take many fans have taken. I have seen discourse prior to the show on Switzerland. The culture shock that many Americans for example have moving there. That being said many fans think that Manon was following a redirect she grew up on. One that read arrogant to those from countries that encourage that hard work/teamwork to a whole other degree. An example of the difference is it’s illegal to work on Sundays in Switzerland and they take wellness/family time very seriously. So when they mention Manon taking time to rest, taking time with family, when she mentions her take on her wellness. It completely aligns with how those from Switzerland tend to think. I can’t say all, I’m sure many move to other countries and learn a different work ethic. But in her case she was hand picked from that environment, and pushed into a whole other world.
    The show highlights their nationalities often. It’s the core of the group, that diversity. That being said, it’s unfair to not factor such in when judging Manons behaviors. That’s why I take her seriously when she took accountability, as she mentions realizing she can’t act the same way here. That the environment she was in she didn’t understand, was threatened by, and had to gain confidence in to redirect a mentality she was used to her whole life.
    I also have my own thoughts on her being the eldest if I’m not mistaken. I’m older than her by a few months, and the curfew thing I could see being a genuine issue she had that was a mistake on her part to learn from. Just because I can see myself not wanting to obey curfew when in America at the least, you have a lot of freedom in your 20s. Being from Switzerland I’m sure that’s a whole other process as well to adapt to. One in which you’d ignore being young and still somewhat immature. That i can see as a form of “arrogance”, as i could honestly see my own self sneaking out for something If need be if I were her….knowing i shouldnt💀

      still doesn't justify the fact that she get to debut when other girls far hardworking and far more talented didn't get to. Not to ignore the fact she is the oldest and looked around and still didn't think - everyone is working hard, So i should too. Most countries doesn't have such a harsh work culture but still girls from many other countries, worked twice hard. And even if there is difference in work ethic and all understandable but still her being selected isn't right It is so heart breaking watching other girls who deserved to be in that spot but didn't get to because of someone's race and looks. People won't make such excuses for a kpop group member who is just avg at everything and only good thing about that person is their looks . The same audience will point out how unfair this companies are and all. But look at them supporting and victimizing the same kind of person while bullying the members who had every right to hold her accountable. Everyone else was adapting to the very same environment and Lara was scouted to but she and every other girl worked harder. It's okay that Manon had different experience with everything. She is a human and she is no evil for what she did in the show. Just that a much more deserving person should have been there instead of her.

    • @MidnightxCrow
      @MidnightxCrow 2 месяца назад +7

      Well it depends on whether they can write or not...there are k-pop groups who write and produce for themselves and there are those who don't, because it's not something that should be forced, it's whether they have it or not....some groups can also only be allowed to release self-produced music after a few years....I don't think the sim with this group is for them to write their own stuff though.... it's not different from solo artists as well, not all big pop stars write their own stuff and it's not really necessary if they are aiming to be top performers and not singer-songwriters

      I feel like the kpop format is more about producing performers and celebrities (hence ‘idols’) than actually being focused around the music itself. That said, most major Western artists also use ghost writers. I think we like to believe the industry is more authentic than it actually is. But at the end of the day, is it a bad thing to have the best writers write the songs while the best performers perform them? I’d like to see writers get more credit, but I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad setup. Of course, it does mean that when you find someone who’s both extremely musically talented/creative AND a riveting performer, they are basically gold dust and deserve the most credit. Like Kate Bush or Queen

Just because everyone else does it, doesn't mean that it's alright to do. Would you hire employees that break the confidentiality of your clients?
