    This particular solder sucker has a silicone tip, you can simply place it over the solder joint while you're still heating it with the iron. The seal is likely to be less good, but it's a little bit less cumbersome than trying to hit and seal the joint with the solder sucker in that split second that your solder is still liquid enough. Over time the silicone will obviously wear out but it's easy enough to replace.
    Pro tip: if you have a plastic solder sucker, you can likely add a piece of silicone to its tip as well.

    I just had to replace a switch on one of my older pre-built keyboards. I was struggling to get the solder to melt, so I ended up needing to add a little bit more solder to the joints for it to finally start melting. Took me like 10 minutes to figure that out. Now I know 😂

    • @Graham_Wideman
      @Graham_Wideman Год назад +14

      The added solder helps conduct heat from the iron to heat the existing solder, and increases the thermal mass of the enlarged blob so that it stays hotter and melted for a longer time. In addition, if the new solder is leaded, and mixes with existing lead-free solder, that lowers the overall melting temperature. That makes it easier to melt, and allows it to stay melted longer.

    I just learned that the reason they give you extra plastic tips is because you should be making a seal which makes the pump work at it's best. .. and this you may burn the tip ... Thank you so much !!

    I don’t really do electronics any more. I tried all of these pumps and the best one by far is the big blue one. It’s huge compared to any of the others but is so much better. I used the same one as in the video for smaller stuff but the big blue came out when I had loads of component retrieving or bigger joints.

    Anyone know at what degree it’s supposed to be? Mine maxes out at 480c and it doesn’t turn any of the iron into liquid it just heats it up.

    • @rise7308
      @rise7308 5 месяцев назад

      Ur soldering wire must be bad. Buy a better wire and check if it has hole in the middle of the wire when you cut it with cutter. Middle hole contains flux.
      I bought a bad wire before and i use 480 aswell. But when i bought a better wire, i just usually just solder around 360.
      Expenses priority i think is
      Wire > flux > multimeter > solder iron > pump > holder

  • @arnauddurand127

    I bought a cheap (25$) electric desoldering gun. Even with this, I find difficult to desolder some parts. There is always some sticky solder residue where there is no gap between the lead and the hole.

      That's been my experience with the pump as well... typically a little solder still on the joint. Although it's a bit pricey, I switched over to a Hakko desoldering gun. That thing is a dream come true, so long as you clean it out.

    How often do you need to push out the sucked-up solder from the pump? After every joint?

    • @soupflood
      @soupflood 11 месяцев назад

      Every time you push in the pump, it ejects the sucked solder. Sometimes you may have to remove it's tip when it gets stuck though.

    • @DT-dc4br
      @DT-dc4br 8 месяцев назад

      Adding some more solder or some flux can help remelt stubborn bits. It could be your soldering iron isn't powerful enough, it might be worth getting an adjustable temperature one, I found even a cheap one with swappable tips to be a good improvement over the traditional ones.
