  • Martin Luther King Jr. gives a speech at Howard University in 1966 for the Gandhi Memorial Lecture
    When I found this recording it was on a cassette tape and I digitized it from there. During the digitization process with old cassettes, it's not uncommon for the tape to run a bit fast or slow and lead to some speed and pitch distortion. Sometimes, this can be alleviated by altering the speed on RUclips.

Fair use is a use permitted by copyright statute that might otherwise be infringing. Non-profit, educational or personal use tips the balance in favor of fair use.

    Something is off with this recording. That doesn't sound like MLK's voice. Linguistically, it's him, but is it sped up?

      Hi, thanks for noting this. This may indeed be the case. When I found this recording it was on a cassette tape and I digitized it from there. During the digitization process with old cassettes, it's not uncommon for the tape to run a bit fast or slow and lead to some speed and pitch distortion. Sometimes, this can be alleviated by altering the speed on RUclips.

      @@thepostarchive I have listened to many hours of King's speeches. I would estimate that this is about 10% sped up. If only RUclips had a 90% speed setting. Thanks for your work.

      You can set a custom playback speed in RUclips by going to Settings > Playback Speed > Custom and dragging the slider. This doesn't actually slow down the playback, however. It only adds empty frames, making it sound sped-up and chopped-up :(

    Dr. Martin Luther King jr. was the best of the human beings of his times. Completely devoted to improving human conditions. Completely devoted to God and the well being of Man. Educationally, economically and emphatic about empathy for the suffering of humanity.
    After listening to most of the lecture his sound does not look like his. Wonder is it him or someone else.

    Just like Holy Prophet Moses came with a message, Reverend Martin Luther King is the Voice of God, the Supreme Consciousness, whose very voice still reverberates worldwide in mitigating racism.

    I agree with thebig that this recording must be corrupted being sped up or this is not MLK. It's a shame that we find numerous old classics ruined by modern technology with them supposedly improving things selling the vintage stuff marketing them "remastered" or some other bs. Here, it's probably just accidental.

    • @chucktingstad5636
      @chucktingstad5636 5 лет назад +1

      It's just slightly sped up, that's all. If you this isn't MLK, you don't know his speaking style including vocabulary and the way he crafts his speeches.

    Martin Luther King Jr. Speech at Howard University (1966)
    The President must be a simple or dumb person; Why would Howard University pay tribute to a Racist; Mahatma Gandhi "Gandhi Memorial Lecture"
    During his stay in South Africa, Gandhi routinely expressed “disdain for Africans,” says S. Anand, founder of Navayana, the publisher of the book titled “The South African Gandhi: Stretcher-Bearer of Empire.”
    According to the book, Gandhi described black Africans as “savage,” “raw” and living a life of “indolence and nakedness,” and he campaigned relentlessly to prove to the British rulers that the Indian community in South Africa was superior to native black Africans. The book combs through Gandhi’s own writings during the period and government archives and paints a portrait that is at variance with how the world regards him today.
