Now, many of us have not forgotten that Erma could sing as well. However, Aretha had a uniqueness about her voice that was unmatched by no one, even today. Hence, her name became simple, "Aretha" without the Franklin, because when you said Aretha, everyone knew who you were talking about.. I also remember lil sister Carolyn, who graduated from Northern High School. She wrote absolutely beautiful songs, and passed awy in ol' Sinai Hospital. St James & Charles Nicks were also old "Friends."
Lord Have Mercy!....That's the kind of church I'm talking about. I've got goose bumps. I love good gospel singing and good preaching that make you want to shout. If I could ever be blessed to find a church home like that, I would be so devoted and look forward to all services. But these days is getting harder and harder to find a church that is so spirit filled like this.
One day and very soon jesus is going to come back kill every cancer that is living in the body Rest in Peace Queen Aretha there will never be another like u
This was my Pastor...The late great Charles Nicks from the St. James Baptist church...It's where I went on sundays as a child........Thank you for the memories
I always love the Franklin Family, and The Preaching and Singing, and lost to Cancer, I lost my Brother, Sister, Grandparents to cancer, so I understand Aretha's lost,
I feel bad for Cecil Franklin. Clearly his addiction was beginning to overtake him at this point and he was a talented preacher, cut down by drugs. That has always been a sad but clear warning to me personally: The ability to preach well does not absolve you of the consequences of your actions outside the pulpit.
The church is the best stage ever got any real singer or musician period point blank period this is where I learned how to watch my uncle play piano at 12 and mimic him without knowing how to read music his hands were the notes his feet was ryhthm the way his feet glided across the Hammond.organ i.did not know what it was for i.do.now.,, but I watched just like Cecil and.our Queen and the TALENT began I play drums piano tambourine ect ,, I can't song lol.🎷 But back to Lady soul My God I miss THIS let's go back
That is the late great Rev. Charles Nicks of the original St. James Baptist church. Located on the corner of Pulford St. and Mt. Elliot in Detroit. I was a member there years ago..thank you for posting this video and thank you for the memories
Actually, the entire concert is already on RUclips ... you just have to look up each song she sang, such as, put these in your search engine on RUclips : Rev. Charles Nicks, Jr., Aretha Franklin Concert. Comments by Rev. Nicks, Sidney Holmes, Cecil Franklin and this: Aretha Franklin - Who's zoomin' who 1985 and this: Aretha Franklin - "Look To The Rainbow" These were all a part of her concert in Detroit in 1985 at the Mosanic Temple and shown on Showtime
Because she sang so long and hard during this concert that she started lossing her voice during the end of the show. I have this entire concert on tape, as it was aired on Showtime back in the early 80's.
The choir backing Aretha is the legendary St James adult choir Rev Charles Nicks Jr was their pastor. The man talking at the beginning was the legendary song writter, singer, preacher, pastor and musician Rev Charles Nicks Jr.
usually when aretha is sharing a stage especially with other woman she is making sure she does not get outshined lol. She will let them know she is the queen. But whenever she sings with her sisters she does not mind letting them shine and sing. Aretha is more in fan mode with her sisters. she loved her sisters and loved sharing the stage with them and heating them sing.
That is one of her gifts as a singer and musician, she knew how to use her instruments. She wasn't trying to sing over the choir or the musicians but with them. That's the power in the anointing, letting God do the ministering versus screaming. Aretha knew the Lord and He never left her. He was all down deep in her bones and she step back and let Him use the voice He gave her. There will NEVER be another Aretha Franklin. Periodt
She was okay and Carolyn was ok and Cecil was okay; not their fault that Aretha’s God-given voice overshadowed them. I remember ‘Piece of My Heart’ (and still have the vinyl) ! The sisters were excellent back-up singers though.
That brother of hers is nasty. And it's a shallow celeb show off... Not how it's supposed to be, praising from the heart in church. Dear Aretha, you have suffered tremendous by your family, I hope you rest in peace.
Asayud Whaddameant I liked her sincere performance and her brotha and sista..didn’t know about no addiction..rest easy Family..Erma,Carolyn,Aretha,Cecil..
I love Erma, Cecil, Carolyn, the Rev. C.L. and of course Aretha Franklin. They made an impact on the lives of many, many people. God Bless them all.
Yes, the men definitely made an impact; it's called abuse. (Don't get blind sighted by fame)

Sabrina looks EXACTLY like her mother! OmG!

Yes, he passed away 3 weeks after I saw him with Aretha at her Christmas Concert.
Beautiful sisters and brother.
Old Landmark, in the old time way. Wonderful memories.
I';m not religious and when Rev Cecil Preached I was crying!!

that's the incredible Nicky Johnson on the piano. I was friends with him when he played for the John Howard Gospel Caravan in Atlantic City.

I hear little kid's signing lil wayne on the bus , What song dose your child know
Ma Retha & her siblings took everyone to church...
Erma!
let's have church!!!
Is that Rev. Charles Nicks directing?
❤❤❤
I didn't like the way the pianist got up started directing the choir at the end. I'm pretty sure Rev knew what he was doing.
I thought that was odd. That's Aretha's brother, Cecil. I think the spirit moved him. I don't think he meant any harm in it.
wHY IS aRETHA SINGING SO LOW???
That is one of her gifts as a singer and musician, she knew how to use her instruments. She wasn't trying to sing over the choir or the musicians but with them. why was erma so very neglected?
She was okay and Carolyn was ok and Cecil was okay; not their fault that Aretha’s God-given voice overshadowed them. I remember ‘Piece of My Heart’ (and still have the vinyl) ! The sisters were excellent back-up singers though.
Now how you go from praising to criticizing Erma's shoes? heh, heh,
That brother of hers is nasty. And it's a shallow celeb show off... Not how it's supposed to be, praising from the heart in church. Dear Aretha, you have suffered tremendous by your family, I hope you rest in peace.
That was really unprofessional of the Pianist they had a director they didn't need him.He just wanted his 5 minutes of fame that's all.Tacky.
nothing different they sound the same
Screaming chickens
Cigarettes had really taken its toll on her voice at this time. She had no range or energy
What were you watching, you sound foolish.
Asayud Whaddameant I liked her sincere performance and her brotha and sista..didn’t know about no addiction..rest easy Family..Erma,Carolyn,Aretha,Cecil..
