- Being prepared for an emergency with your dog is so important, and one of the best ways to be prepared is to have your own Dog First Aid Kit. This is my DIY dog first aid kit, that I have changed and added to over the years. We take this dog first aid kit with us on every trip we take! You never know when an emergency with your dog could happen. I mean, just a few weeks ago, we had the wasps and bees sting the dogs, and then Memphis cut her nose, accidents with pets happen, and being prepared is going to help get your dog the care they need as quick as possible!

Muzzles are a great add! An injured/sick pet is an unpredictable pet! Even the sweetest pet can be so terrified from pain that they can think the person helping them is hurting them. Pets on medication (especially sedatives) can also be aggressive towards people.

Love this Jess! Here are my additions for my first aid kit. Due to Ghillie Dhu's condition I now keep ice packs in my kit. Chemically activated as well as gel packs you keep in the freezer. I also have heat packs, saline for flushing wounds, an ACE wrap (works great as an emergency muzzle as well as for wrapping limbs) in my kit. I now keep an extra dose of Ghillie Dhu's daily medicine to use as a rescue medicine if he has an extra long or cluster episode. Something I've recently considered adding is a charging cable & power brick for my cell phone. All my important numbers are saved in it. I would hate to lose charge & need to make a call & not be able too.
Since most of our travel is in the RV, I actually have ice packs in the freezer in the rv! That's what I used for Kira when the bug bit her the last time we were camping!

The scissors are trauma or bandage shears. I have several pairs around the house. They are very handy

I liked that muzzle. I have hated muzzles for dogs ever since I saw Lady ( Lady & the Tramp) get one put on her and she hated it! Okay, that was 63 years ago, but it made a negative impression.

adorable! I love it!!! Thank you so much for this video. Bloat doesn't get the attention it it deserves. It can kill a cherished animal so fast. You have to be able to FORCEFULLY let the vet know you've been thro.this before and k ow what you're talking about and if needed take action yourself while you wait ?for them to get there. Even the best vet can't fight traffic issues and etc. I fought bloat in both a dog and a horse I had. He taught me the steps reps for emergency care and being able to do that saved both animals until he could get there and take over. Jessica, you're doing an amazing job of spreading the word! LISTEN TO HER PEOPLE!!

This is so informative! There's a couple of things I don't have but it's nice to see that I got the majority of a first aid kit covered. Any suggestions for you, maybe for the paws I don't feel like the poop bags are very good to use, as they may tear. Having a dog that has a lot of irritation and sometimes hotspots on his paws due to allergies, I have gotten him, and don't you laugh! Baby socks! I put them on his paws and put some vet wrap around his leg to keep it snug and secure. I like it better than a bandage because the wound can still breathe kind of. For outside I got some other kind of socks, but they are made entirely out of extremely sturdy fabric, and they are also waterproof. They close with velcro around the leg. Those maybe aren't exactly "first aid" material, but I would definitely get a pack of baby socks, which are also washable and pretty cheap to get. The fun patterns on it are a bonus not gonna lie hahaha.
As I said, they are for an emergency use situation only! Poop bags are something most people have, even if they don't' have a first aid kit, which is why I talked about it. :)
The girls are certainly in good hands, because mom loves them!🥰
I kept an extra set of mushing booties in my first aid kit for some extra protection, if there was an injury to the paw while out and about. I also put in a instant cold pack, because my husky had epilepsy and a cold pack could help reduce the intensity and length of the seizure.(look up ice pack on back for dogs with seizures.)

We have a dog first aid kit that's in an old handbag for when we walk the dogs. That has everything we need for cuts and to be able to get the dogs home to get them trear properly and we have a kit at home too

Thank you for the update! I'll be checking mine in the next couple of days. Another thing I'll be checking is the expiration on some of the items in my kit and changing those items out if expired.

Highly recommend growing yarrow if you have kids or dogs! The dried leaves make a styptic powder that works amazingly.

I'm actually lucky with my huskies. They seem to keep their own nails trimmed fairly well. one of them even chews them down regularly. plus there is plenty of ggravel and of things for them to walk on that helps too. i keep an eye on them though and make sure they don't get to long. unfortunately, one of my pups has some black nails.

Hi everybody. I’m glad Memphis is doing okay. I noticed that you didn’t have any ice packs in your kit. Just in case of swelling. I use cooler ice packs. They come in different sizes. Just a little suggestion. Love you guys. ❤❤❤❤❤

I would add zip lock bags in various sizes to hold anything that has been used and needs to be thrown out, as well as the soiled towels and wipes. The poop bags are great for that as well.
Q: what about when the dog(s) get a mouth injury, such as a loose or broken off tooth? What do you do?
Because the majority of our travel is in the RV, we actually have zip lock bags in the RV, and I have some in my Heep as well.
The muzzle would work for a mouth injury, but there isn't much you can do for a broken tooth or a loose tooth except for get to a vet.

I would like to add if you know your dog has eaten something toxic, call poison control. A case number might help speed up the process at an emergency vet. On that note, on your notepad (or taped to the box) HAVE EMERGENCY NUMBERS. It will save you time and scrambling. Make sure to have an emergency vet address too, or preferably 2! Ty for sharing, there's many things I wouldn't have thought of!
What about a dog tourniquet or ace bandage? Probably less likely to use it but you'd be grateful to have one if needed

Have you seen the new venom suction devices coming out? Do you think it would work on the pets too?
You can buy a dog first aid kit, but in my opinion, they don't' have all the things I like to have in mine. We have a venom sucker in our travel kit, it can work on pets yes.
what about bandaids
I noticed one thing you do not have and that is betadine solution. Good stuff i use on my fur babies when they get a boo boo.
