A Softly Spoken "Slightly" Belated Update from Springbok ASMR

- Timing is a funny thing, but amor fati--we can love our fate and find meaning where we share love. On April 1st, the day I decided to return to RUclips, I got a medical update that means I will be undergoing a bit of treatment that may change my uploading plans just a little. I still have every intention of creating content, however there may be little gaps here and there and I'd ask you not to panic--I may just need a little extra rest at times.
If anything, I'm even more grateful to have this joyful space to share with you all. But, because it will inevitably alter how I may appear over the coming months, I wanted to just get out ahead of it so I don't cause any worry or speculation. I've learned that silences over something can actually say far more than words.
I have small-cell lymphocytic lymphoma and I don't want a single one of you to worry for a second over it. I am okay and doing everything I can. But if you see me wearing wigs or losing weight or looking a bit different over the months, it's simply part of my journey to heal. It's a bit too tender for me to speak about further right now, but if you are going through illness, or nursing someone through illness, please know my heart is with yours in any way it can be.
Finally, I wanted to say one more word about my Dad, whom I mention in this update: he recently passed from a very different and far more horrible kind of cancer. I say he was sometimes closed off, but he was also brave, brilliant, and indefatigably devoted to the dream of goodness. He often read the kind things you all said and he told me it helped him see good on the internet, where he (sort of flippantly) remarked he hadn't seen it before.
So now I've brought you one totally ludicrous Chocobo video and one really gooey, mushy update--the day-old banana bread of updates, if you will--I promise some real tingles, real soon loves.

Thank you to everyone for sharing your kind wishes, your warm welcomes, and your own experiences! I'm mostly at appointments today but will respond to comments when I get chances, but please forgive me if I cannot respond to every single one. A long time ago, maybe 8-9 years ago - I worked at Nordstrom selling shoes. And you can imagine my shock as my favorite ASMR creator would walk onto the sales floor asking for help. It was the only time I would ever meet any ASMRist (a term that didn’t exist at the time), but I would never forget how amazed I was that this person who seemed so impossibly sweet and creative in their videos would actually be just as genuine and warm in real life. I still remember asking if you were Springbok, and felt so scared that I could be mistaken, or that you would react negatively. But you were so graceful and receptive to my excitement that it was actually you. And seeing your face pop back on my screen so many years later, and myself being an entirely different person than who I was back then, all of those feelings and memories came flooding back. You offered me and all your fans so much comfort and reprieve back then, and I can only hope that you are receiving all of that comfort and support you need from those around you in this challenging time. You’re in our thoughts and please know the world is a brighter place with you in it.

Oh how I wish I could do any little thing to make this world better right now--it can feel overwhelming to me if I read the news or the wrong posts. But I remember that most people, the vast, vast majority, are so good and fun and sweet and enjoy things like Bulbasaur and making others smile, and then I feel better. When I first started listening to you, I was a teenager.
Now I'm listening to this update while laying on a couch in the NICU with my newly born daughter--my first child. (She's doing well, no fear! She just needs a little extra time to get ready for the outside world).
I could not be happier to hear that you too have become a parent. Your life has been so full of beauty all this time! What else but forgiveness and joy could I offer you?

It's important that she was devoting time to raising her disabled child properly, the way he deserved to be, with love, compassion, and non-judgmental attention to needs that neurotypical and able bodied people don't have. She's a good mother. She was already motherly.

@@ASMRyouVEGANyet Correct, not fatherly. Fatherly would be more along the lines of providing a child and mother with necessary resources. Also, in early childhood the fathers direct caretaker role is diminished from what it should become later on. That's generally true at least.

Six years ago I was a 17 year old young man who had just dropped out of high school, struggling with my PTSD, and depression feeling particularly crushed by life but the love you extended in your videos has always reminded me of my grandmother who died when I was 13. At that time you had rekindled a light in me that was long dulled by a life of many hardships. I am now turning 25 this very month, I got my GED when I was 21, I own two businesses, and last year finished building a home for my family. Most importantly I have not let the light you’ve helped to grow go out. Just as I know my grandmother watches over me today I know your father is still watching These videos. Thank you for being who you are and thank you for helping me even if you never knew it ❤️

Over the years I would wonder about you and would just give a silent hope to the Universe that you were off just living your life. You started your channel around the time my mother passed away, and I found so much comfort from your videos. I found ASMR through the old RUclips wormhole while obsessively watching acrylic nail tutorials. That was 2012. I'm now a licensed nail tech of four years! 🎉🎉🎉 And you're back in YT! When you changed your profile picture, I was so happy to see you'd interacted with your channel. We've all had a weird few years, but we're all still here. You should take credit for building this community here. We are all here because of you and what you gave us when you could. I for one am just very happy you and the little are okay. I've got one on the spectrum, and after 16+ years of watching him grow up, husband and I notice just how many of us are. When you said we all have special needs, it's true. We all have our quirks, our abilities and our special needs at times. It's getting those needs met with care and compassion that helps us grow. ASMR was a way for us to get our needs of comfort and serenity in the chaos. For many of us, it still is. Spring - I understand well the crushing pressure of building this *thing* and then life happens, you have to step away, and it seems an almost insurmountable task to come back to form. What you should take away is this - you were "gone" for six years, and over 156,000 people waited for you to come back. That's a testament to everything you've done here and just how many lives you've touched. Most of us are lucky to have *one* friend who sticks with you through it all, much less 156,000. The point is - we develop very personal attachments to our favorite ASMRtists, as they fill a hole in our lives and provide healing when nothing else works. For that and so many reasons more, we will still be here when YOU'RE ready and not a moment before, and don't ever think for a second you don't deserve the love and admiration we pile on you. 💖

I still watch your old videos to fall asleep they are the best asmr on youtube hands down, and there is nothing wrong with putting something down and taking care of life. I am 53 and My mother passed away from cancer back in August and I was devastated and still am, I was close to her and lived with her and my father for the last 5 years of her life. Hang in there and get all your treatments but those treatments can be tough on your body and make you ill sometimes my mother was 77 so maybe its not as bad when your younger. BIG WELCOME BACK Springbok and just in time for..Spring we get Springbok back :)

You were among the first ASMRtists I ever subbed and tbh your "Papers Please" video was played at least once a week.
In the time you were "absent" I also became a parent and developed so much as a person, which also meant that people and relationships in my life changed. Old acquaintances slowly moved away (esp. during the pandemic) and new ones came into my life. All the while my child grew up from being a baby, to a toddler to a school kid.
Thus, I can really relate to what you were talking about.
There is no need for you to explain or even apologize. On the contrary, I am grateful for you sharing all this information.
If it takes another six years to hear from you again... as long as you and your family are well, we are happy for you. And that is all we need.

I’ve never been more relieved in my life
I was sitting here thinking ‘yeah I suppose a few years have gone by’ - then checked and saw it’s been 9 years since I first started watching. That’s two relationships, a university degree, 4 jobs and an international relocation ago. I can’t believe that. Wild to think how mysterious and bizarre asmr seemed back then, and how big the world felt before the internet ate everything. I kind of miss those weird old experimental days

Years ago, your videos were a soft place and a way to relieve insomnia during a hard divorce with two young children. Thank you for sharing some of your own journey and for the comfort you bring.
I hope things have gotten easier for you and I hope you’re on the way to or have found a semblance of peace. I also hope you had/have a stable support group in your life. I wish all the best for your children.
I’m not a parent myself but I am gifted with the honor of being an uncle. I completely sympathize with the desire to shield your children from the trauma and harm our world often times cruelly delivers.
I cannot fathom the agony of trying to do that with a former partner potentially being the cause of such pain.
A dear friend of mine is suffering through a terrible divorce himself and I hate seeing him agonize so deeply. I try my hardest to help and encourage. He’s an amazing father and a man I’m so grateful to call friend.
I just wanted to share those thoughts. Being on the outside looking in has changed my perspective and I just want offer my support to any divorcees I come across.
I used to listen to you when I was pregnant with my now 8 year old! I have access to TikTok lives and everyone on here but there is STILL something about your videos that kept me here on your channel. I still watch you at least twice a week… and now I’ll have new content. I have missed your videos so so much. You don’t have to be flashy. Your voice, your soul and how calm you are is what keeps us coming back to these..

I wouldn't say I've changed a whole lot as a person over the years, but I have bought a house with a beautiful garden where i can spend time with friends and family, and grow vegetables and flowers, and I've changed careers to do something I truly love. Looking back on that is nice; it makes me grateful for where I'm at now.
It would be lovely to see more from you - I'd never want to ask for that, but hearing the excitement in your voice when you talk about it makes me want to share in that joy once again. Simple, cosy content in that classic Spring style sounds absolutely perfect to me.

I find a lot of the new ASMR that has emerged over the years a bit too 'flashy', if that makes sense. I've always felt more comfortable with the older videos like the ones on your channel. Definitely do not worry about "keeping up" with the rest, your style has a timeless quality that I will always come back for.
