Nice guide. Something to note though, is that the clip size upgrade for the flare gun is a +1 to max ammo. If you take this with 1 ammo upgrade, you get an extra flare per resupply (9 vs 10)
Alright short essay incoming, so I figured that the resupply would round down like it does with other weapons, it doesn't. So having 19 max gives 10 per resupply. So you can actually get more flares while still doing 1 duration and 1 ammo and just moving the mag size over, you're right about that. But in testing this I found some new quirks with the flare gun. The main reason I opt for fire rate rather than than the 1 extra in the mag is because I use flares in clusters of 3 to light large areas and singles to light smaller rooms. When doing this I like to be able to grapple or shotgun boost into the room and fan the flares in a 180° angle before my team is in, so they can identify threats before its a problem. Obviously the pitiful base 1 round per second isn't good for this. However, while testing the resupply numbers and dumping flares into the wall, I found a similar trick to the engineer's platform gun, you can actually cancel the "firing recoil" of the flare gun by quickly pulling out the pickaxe. From what I can tell so far the timing is much tighter than the plat gun and you have to actually cut off the firing animation to kill the wait period. Even though it's not as fast as the 4 round per second upgrade, it seems about 50% faster than just mashing the fire key. I'm going to look into this further and potentially make some sort of micro guide on this, if I can get it up to 2 flares per second this is probably going to be my new spec. Thank you for your comment and helping me discover this. ROCK AND STONE!
@@AxisKronos that's really good info and it does prove that a flare gun fire rate boost does in fact have its uses. However, I think it's paltry compared to extra flares. Even if the mag size boost only provided one extra flare per mission, it would be hands down the better choice every time, in my opinion

Bypassed integrity check is hands down my favorite, but I can see Momentum being useful. Also, the upgrades you indicated for the flare have the added bonus of giving you one extra flare at a resupply because the game rounds your odd number of flares up.
scout was the first class i used and these skills just came in to me naturally since i keep usin scout i keep start discovering efficient way to use grappling
Tip for solo that is really helpful as scout If you order Bosco to dig a nest, he'll dig straight to the egg and carry it towards you. This is really helpful. He can also do this with large ore items. I believe he will also build and repair things for you if you order him to. Let Bosco do the heavy lifting for you while you do the fighting. Bosco is my best friend.
5:50 bypassed integrity check perfectly fits with the perk born ready. Last tier upgrade of sacrificing the 5m for 0.5 sec cooldown does wonder. You can zip around hordes on haz 5, kiting them easier either for you to kill them by yourself while they struggle to turn around or your teammates themselves can. So it is optimum and is perfect for high level plays.
I like the extra range. Just because i get so used to it that if i don't have it i end up killing myself from jumping off an ledge and seeing red on my crosshair and getting brain damage.
@@aarepelaa1142 same, and every single mission has multiple moments in which I'm very glad to have the extra 5-10m reach. To me, it's all about whether I could do it another way without the perk. I can (almost always) wait or run around an additional 0.5 seconds before grappling again, but if my target is out of range, there's very little I can do about that on my own.
With the explosion on reload for your dualies, it's easy to clear large waves in a clip. Just hit each bug about twice and in reload they die whne grouped
Scout was the first class I promoted, and I’d say that for basically every weapon of his you want at least ONE mod to be dedicated to increasing spare ammunition, ALWAYS. It’s makes fighting those 2 ton dreadnoughts much easier.
Scouts are like medics. I usually play the engineer and I can’t tell you how many times I was saved by scouts that can just get out of any sticky situation. Scouts are truly essential for every mining team.
Honestly I find just popping one flare is more than enough for all but the most massive chasms. The team doesn't really need crystal clear vision so much as a noticable improvement to their standard flares. And it means you dont need to use the rapid fire mod and can conserve ammo.
Great video as always! 14:30 Though I must say I cannot agree with scout being the hardest to solo, due to the reduced enemy spawn group size and reduced enemy health. Scout is clearly the weakest against swarms and groups, but when the hordes are reduced for balance it is almost like the scout's major weakness is gone. From recent experience scout soloing H5 swarms waves is surprisingly easy, compared to a normal 4 player game... where the scout is quite helpless and have to move a lot more just to avoid and let the other players deal with the tight packs of enemies
i just started a month ago, but my experience has been the same. Solo scout missions are generally a breeze, like almost zero challenge up through haz 4, but I sometimes struggle with a team on haz 3
I'd say bypassed integrity check is the best mod for the grappling hook but i never used safety first and i definitely see the usefulness of momentum, i just prefer Bypassed IC, nice vid btw.
14:38 also as solo you can let bosco pick up eggs for you ( assuming that this feature is available at the time of recording ) so what i do I point bosco to the egg and he digs it and pick up the egg and bring it outside while i focus on defeating enemy mobs. i always play solo too
I think it's rather interesting seeing how each class handles a swarm on their own. Scout picks them off slowly while moving around as much as possible, driller makes a tunnel (at least usually some kind of defensive dugout) and funnels them into his attacks, engineers cover a wide area and kite while tossing out attacks and letting their sentries attack, and gunner just tanks it while throwing out shields and sustained dps.
2 years later, I feel like the scout is the best solo as a new player, the flare gun is amazing, the grappling hook lets me navigate caves without waisting time to dig, the rifle and bookmstick can be weaved in with power attacks to deal with major threats and the bonus speed of the rifle with it's pinpoint accuracy allows me to deal with priority targets and keep myself safe at all times
Found scout best with lowest cooldown. You have other options like armor upgrades and hover boots perk for fall damage and can re-grapple most times. M1000 and juryrig accommodate the scout's kite/reposition tactic with a focus on high power crit shots and crowd control shotgun upgrades. Pheromone is much more broadly useful than cyro grenade buying precious time and opportunity to reduce immediate threats
The Deepcore GK2 starter primary weapon for the scout has since been buffed and is an incredibly solid weapon to use. Its very good if you can hit your headshots every now and then. That said, I still think the M1000 is better, but don't feel you have to switch to the M1000 as soon as possible.
A good Scout player is a major asset to the team, they can provide lighting to spot and also mine ores high up out of reach, Scout can zip around combat taking out dangerous enemies and is very good at kiting bosses for other classes to focus on dealing dmg. Not to mention big dmg potential with thing like double barrel overclock build.
"easiest to stay alive with" Well hmm... then why do I always die with scout haha. Honestly I end up killing myself more than the enemy with scout. I tend to survive the best with driller honestly.
This. I'm still in the baby stages of learning scout (as in I get nervous any time I try and solo a Haz 3), and most of my deaths so far have been from me breaking my legs after botching an attempt to grapple up and power attack a hole into the wall just above a high-up mineral vein because I've got no engies to shoot a cheese wheel underneath it. P.S. If any of y'all have any tips for solo scout high-elevation mining, I'd sincerely appreciate your advice. Yours sincerely, Me & My Femurs
@@rando5638 Hover Boots perk and the Safety First upgrade on the grapple can do a lot to mitigate the learning pains, also the tier 3 upgrade on the scout armor is a permanent fall damage reduction if you don't have that already. There is also Hoverclock for the M1, and Special Powder for the shotgun, but those are both Overclocks so if you don't have em, obviously not an option for now.
@@AxisKronos Literally just unlocked the armour upgrade that tones down fall damage, but yeah, overclock country is still fifteen levels away. Much love for the fast reply, though. I'll take another look at where I am with grapple mods in the morning, but I think I've still got a few to go before the last tier.
I do think the assault rifle has it's place in the Scout's arsenal as a sort of all-purpose weapon. As you said, it's effective at most ranges, does reasonable damage and has a decent enough ammo pool. I feel like it's the superior weapon for soloing, since it's got the ammo pool and firing rate to deal with swarms without relying on Bosco to do most of the work... but in a team it just makes you a gunner that does less damage but has more access to weak points. It's main issue is that the scout's job is to focus on priority targets, and while it does that well enough the M1000 just does it so much better, and has more utility in it's mods and overclocks.
Been binge watching your videos, personally the gunner is the newb friendly class for my scatterbrained ass lol. If my friends/teammates aren't keeping tabs on me while casually talking, I'm so distracted by the talking I'm often and easily a mile away from everyone else 😂
SCOUTS JOB: 0. Leave no dwarf behind Everyone shares this duty, but scouts survivability means you often become the one who must prove it. That said, if there is no way the whole team can make it to the pod, your responsability may change to become preventing a failed mission. 1. Nitra Above all, you should mine any nitra you see. Everyone relies on you for that, because you are the most suited. You are also expected to mine other things like norkite and special minerals, but nitra is your sworn duty when you pick scout. 2. Light up the caves. Your mobility tool only benefits you, but to compensate your utility tool is invaluable for the team. Learn to use light efficiently, and you will get objectives faster, and everyone will be better at killing bugs 3. Take down the baddest bugs Spitters, menaces, to an extent pretorians and opressors, and otger major threats. You gotta learn the whole priority order and allways focus on the top of the list. If your team is doing alright keeping the grunts at bay, you can even ignore them and instead focus your attention on looking and listening for the troublesome bugs. 4. Scouting... wait, why is this so low? By scouting I mean swooping ahead with superior mobility, pinging important stuff so the party knows what to expect. This is however risky, and the returns are limited, so if you want to stick with the party probably do so, nobody wants to trek halfway across the map to revive a careless scout, and suddenly the party needs you. You should swoop around bigger caves though, to ping objectives.
Hey axis, when you pickup the extra magazine size, it means you get one extra flare. So when you start, you have 4 in the mag (instead of 3) and 15 in reserve. Just FYI.
and unlike other equipment, it rounds up when you resupply, so it's an extra flare every resup. Idk why that differs from, say, the driller with his three c4 bricks, but it does
Every projectile fired from the NUKS consumes 2 ammo, same as the minigun. Yes its possible to fire 1 projectile, but consuming 1 ammo is never an option.
@@AxisKronos true, I try to do it when getting gunk seeds and have noticed that. Great videos by the way! And if it's ok, I have a request. I've advanced past all of your guides so far, and was hoping for a super advanced scout guide? Or even just some high level tips and tricks. Thank you so much.
As a scout on ps4 so far I've been the one with either the most kills or second most. While having either the highest or lowest mining while playing casually(Sometimes I just feel like either mining or killing but if someone points at something for me I'll do it). I dont touch the stuff on ground level as much. I go ahead and light the caves and point at stuff ground lvl unless if its nitra or mission objective. I'll point at things up high to a engi to TRY to get them if it's a bad angle to grapple to shoot down a platform. Other than that. I'm proud to be good with scout. Oh and I play my scout as if hes a scout/sniper/medic. I'm the first ahead to light the way. Snipe the big bois with m1000 and if anyone goes down I'll get to them fast as possible with field medic perk fully upgraded. Most revives one round was around 11 to 14
Pheromone canisters are actually getting a buff next update! Not sure they will be as good as they were before the nerf but it seems like they should at least be more consistent.
My fav build for scout is the crossbow with the bouncy bolts overclock and m1000 any build tbh shoot a guard or slasher and kill 3 more grunts with the bouncy bolts and while it's stunned switch to the m1000
What's the armor cosmetic ure using in this, I literally only just started playing drg. Was never interested till I tried it for the first time the other day. Wondering how to get better looking armors and make it stronger
"Easiest to survive with" Not me as a greenbeard scout, shattering my knees and ankles every time I grapple, then switching to driller because the steady embrace of dirt around me is comforting and easily defensible
Could you explain 18:30 tip more? I always fall down after doing it and take some hp damage. And it requires atleast 1 (or often more) tries to get into the nook. Is it possible to get into it on the same try as i dig the nook into the wall or i always need to fall down and try again?

I honestly think people who plays scout are not "beginners". In fact I think they are the ones who's the most skillful. I'll say I'm quite biased because I'm a scout main lol. But if played correctly, a good scout player will never let their grapple hook go on CD, movement is key, plus being vigilant and aiming for web, spitters, ranged spiders is also very important as a scout player. Don't forget, they are also responsible for the vision and light of the team. All in all, scout is a very important and amazing class.

I feel like the gunner would be a beginner go-to-operator since all it is you do is deal with a large portion of the horde and fire a zip line every now and then whilst the scout feels like a complex operator and more of a team player as he goes ahead and can help look for minerals quicker but Idk I just started playing the game yesterday 🤷♂️
It depends per mission mission on solo, and also what you want to do. So for example you would go scout if you wanna speed run an egg hunt for some quick xp or gunner to speed run an assassination mission for another way to get easy xp
Also, Scout has this passive surging electric ability when you're down surround by monsters you can activate that ability and knocking enemies around you while preventing enemies from coming to you, makes it easy for your teammates to revive you 👍🏼

I have nearly prestiged my beloved driller twice. I drill, you know? Plays and digs, digs and plays.
I'm going to roll a scout, though. Thanks for keeping your commentary in edit with the visual examples you offer. Excellent tutorial! /subbed :D
Rock and Stone, brothers and sisters!
Big fan of the commented clips, they're very informative in a way that just talking about this stuff isn't really enough for.
Tip for solo that is really helpful as scout
If you order Bosco to dig a nest, he'll dig straight to the egg and carry it towards you.
Safer than running too.
Solid Scout guide!
I am looking forward to your Engineer and Gunner Class guides!
Scout was the first class I promoted, and I’d say that for basically every weapon of his you want at least ONE mod to be dedicated to increasing spare ammunition, ALWAYS. It’s makes fighting those 2 ton dreadnoughts much easier.
Wish I watched this 3 days ago when I started with the scout haha
Very helpful video, learned alot. Can't wait to apply it in game
Scouts are like medics. I usually play the engineer and I can’t tell you how many times I was saved by scouts that can just get out of any sticky situation. Scouts are truly essential for every mining team.
very good guide 10/10 would touch pp again
Honestly I find just popping one flare is more than enough for all but the most massive chasms. The team doesn't really need crystal clear vision so much as a noticable improvement to their standard flares. And it means you dont need to use the rapid fire mod and can conserve ammo.
Right click after shooting to animation cancel and you can rapid fire flares whit that.
Great video as always!

Though I must say I cannot agree with scout being the hardest to solo, due to the reduced enemy spawn group size and reduced enemy health.
LET THERE BE LIGHT BRUDDA! ROCK N STONE!!
As a beginner miner & scout, this content is super helpful. Thank you!
I'd say bypassed integrity check is the best mod for the grappling hook but i never used safety first and i definitely see the usefulness of momentum, i just prefer Bypassed IC, nice vid btw.
dope vid man 🤝
0:31 POV boolo is just so funny

Great content! just started playing DRG and this is fuckin' gold! Rock n Stone brother!
Man this game has the best community
2 years later, I feel like the scout is the best solo as a new player, the flare gun is amazing, the grappling hook lets me navigate caves without waisting time to dig, the rifle and bookmstick can be weaved in with power attacks to deal with major threats and the bonus speed of the rifle with it's pinpoint accuracy allows me to deal with priority targets and keep myself safe at all times
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
fire rate boost on the flare gun is very nearly useless. The one extra flare from increased mag size is infinitely more valuable
"scout is the easiest to survive with"
me dying 10 times to fall damage in every mission:
Thanks for the help I got the game yesterday and you helped a lot
Heyyy new mic sounding nice
A good Scout player is a major asset to the team, they can provide lighting to spot and also mine ores high up out of reach, Scout can zip around combat taking out dangerous enemies and is very good at kiting bosses for other classes to focus on dealing dmg. Not to mention big dmg potential with thing like double barrel overclock build.
I love using the voltaic stun sweeper on a horde of grunts, even if I could kill them normally it’s just so satisfying
great videos man. keep it up
"easiest to stay alive with" Well hmm... then why do I always die with scout haha. Honestly I end up killing myself more than the enemy with scout. I tend to survive the best with driller honestly.
Gravity is a Scout's natural predator
@@AxisKronos lol
Yours sincerely,
Me & My Femurs
I never knew the nukes had a shadow debuff! That explains so much!
Power attacking a wall is super cool. I hadn't even considered that.
SCOUTS JOB:
0. Leave no dwarf behind
Everyone shares this duty, but scouts survivability means you often become the one who must prove it. That said, if there is no way the whole team can make it to the pod, your responsability may change to become preventing a failed mission.
1. Nitra
Above all, you should mine any nitra you see.
Learn to use light efficiently, and you will get objectives faster, and everyone will be better at killing bugs
3. Take down the baddest bugs
Spitters, menaces, to an extent pretorians and opressors, and otger major threats.
Idk why that differs from, say, the driller with his three c4 bricks, but it does
With the nukes, you can actually single fire now. Its super hard, but if you do a super small tap, you can, indeed, shoot one bullet.
Pls update this for drak 25, gk2 buffs, Nishanka Boltshark, and Shock Boomerang
Not sure they will be as good as they were before the nerf but it seems like they should at least be more consistent.
your guides and videos helped me so much..sup... R+S
My fav build for scout is the crossbow with the bouncy bolts overclock and m1000 any build tbh shoot a guard or slasher and kill 3 more grunts with the bouncy bolts and while it's stunned switch to the m1000
as scout, you do mining, lighting and elite sniping. its your job to get Nitra, hard to reach minerals, and to be medic when teammates go down.
17:42 why do u have feild medic on? you were playing solo
Was totally lost.. Till i found you!
What's the armor cosmetic ure using in this, I literally only just started playing drg. Was never interested till I tried it for the first time the other day. Wondering how to get better looking armors and make it stronger
"Easiest to survive with"
Not me as a greenbeard scout, shattering my knees and ankles every time I grapple, then switching to driller because the steady embrace of dirt around me is comforting and easily defensible
1:11 do u mean like ur scouts lvl needs to be lvl 10? Or ur gems lvl needs to be lvl 10?
Great video!
Off topic but what's the paint job you're using in this video for your armor?
Could you explain 18:30 tip more? I always fall down after doing it and take some hp damage. And it requires atleast 1 (or often more) tries to get into the nook. Is it possible to get into it on the same try as i dig the nook into the wall or i always need to fall down and try again?
what keyboard switches do you use? they sound very clean and not too loud. Also amazing and very informative video!
I got the grapple upgrade that makes you travel faster and had to turn it off because I kept overshooting my distances and flying too far
15:00 isnt that error cube stalactites?(or mites if it were on the ground)
Yes they were, that’s half the reason I was fighting so hard in those clips
@@AxisKronos i still have no clue what they're for. which makes it all the more exciting of wondering what they do.
@@Frostburnphoenix Currently only gives 2000 xp at the end of the mission, however they are counted in the shop terminal so perhaps one day they will have a true use
I just hate that the A1000 isn’t a double barrel (under/over style) to account for the double bullet shots.
pheromons is a best chance to revive teammate. Frost grenade haven't enough time for that case.
ROCK AND STONE!!!!
ROCK AND STONE
200+ hours in the game, 100 on scout, never noticed that m1000 eats 2 bullets for a charged shot
Andi kinda noticed that pistols chew through ammo fast, but never gave it enough attention
12:50 ah so that's why i have them equiped. Last played in 2018 or something and now im returning coz some friends bought it, i should try out cryo nades
I love the scout... He has a scouter 😉😎... "it's over 9000!!!"
"improves your teammates accuracy" me with a Hawkeye turret and lok1:
I honestly think people who plays scout are not "beginners". In fact I think they are the ones who's the most skillful. I'll say I'm quite biased because I'm a scout main lol. But if played correctly, a good scout player will never let their grapple hook go on CD, movement is key, plus being vigilant and aiming for web, spitters, ranged spiders is also very important as a scout player. Don't forget, they are also responsible for the vision and light of the team. All in all, scout is a very important and amazing class.
true my brudda goose
0:00 what armor skin is that?
MK4 Scout Suit with the Aqua Force Paint job, which comes from Lost Packs
great vid
DID YOU JUST GRAPPLE OFF A GUNK SEED WHILE IT WAS MID TOSS???
I find the base momentum is plenty and opt for CDR on the grappling hook
can you do a video that's all about gathering minerals as scout without an engineer? i feel like the scout is weaksauce without platforms.
grapple to wall, power attack it as you're getting there, land in hole in the wall.
i love to see. so much. if im going to be playing such a beautiful game i want to see it and see what im doing. scout is my best boy, driller is my second. i love the flamethrower SO MUCH but i get SO FRUSTRATED cause i cant see ughhhh !!! then i go back to scout and im like i missed being spider man and SEEING. honestly im more of a casual player and play haz 1-2 solo and i wish there was like a mode that wasnt so dark. it is like my biggest problem with this game. i just want to see ): thank u flare gun . i order resupplies just for flare gun all the time. lol
I feel like the gunner would be a beginner go-to-operator since all it is you do is deal with a large portion of the horde and fire a zip line every now and then whilst the scout feels like a complex operator and more of a team player as he goes ahead and can help look for minerals quicker but Idk I just started playing the game yesterday 🤷♂️
really? I only use him when I go solo. What is the best class to go on solo missions?
I personally like engineer as he is well rounded. He has mobility damage and turret. This may be bias tho as I only play engineer
It depends per mission mission on solo, and also what you want to do. So for example you would go scout if you wanna speed run an egg hunt for some quick xp or gunner to speed run an assassination mission for another way to get easy xp
Engineer
That moment when you realize that Scout is basically Doomguy Lite.
Thanks for the guide, just started the game and it's very helpful!
Do you plan to make a guide for the engineer and gunner?
Baller.
Why do u have the medic perk? Does it do something in solo that i dont know?
Also, Scout has this passive surging electric ability when you're down surround by monsters you can activate that ability and knocking enemies around you while preventing enemies from coming to you, makes it easy for your teammates to revive you 👍🏼
That’s an active perk, can be equipped on any class, not necessarily a scout thing.
@@AxisKronos oh I thought every class has different perks, I'm only playing scout atm 😅
Also look for platforms that engineer placed
Yo what armor are you wearing bro? It looks sick
MK4 Scout Armor, Aqua Force Paint Job
Sick, thanks for the quick reply! You've got the best looking Scout I've seen!
Anyone who played Mindcraft knows the struggle of low light slow movement (w/ out enchantments). But I mean... flair gun and a grapple, yes please!
I started playing with driller because flame throwers are cool but had trouble with mobility so I swapped to engineer and fell in love played him for 75 levels non stop but want to get all classes to 1 star so I tried scout his so fun if you main engineer and have never given scout a try do it you'll love the mobility
What’s the armor? It looks like the mk4 but like slightly different
Any big changes to scout since this?
DRAK with Impact Deflection makes Scout much more proficient at clearing hordes than he ever used to be.
