There were several compelling reasons to make a film portrait of Maurizio Pollini: his immense talent as a pianist, his rare personality, his affability, intelligence and the desire he himself expressed to submit to this exercise for the very first time- probably because at the age of over 70, he felt that it was time to consent to a film portrait.
Based on an extended interview, the film also includes archival footage and excerpts from concerts and documentaries.
Original title: Maurizio Pollini, De main de maître - A musical profile of the famous pianist
Directed by Bruno Monsaingeon, 2014.
RIP maestro.
Such versatility and energetic intelligence in Maurizio's interprtations! A Wonderful privilege to be audience..
Heartfelt!

RIP, Maestro. Thanks for bringing so many beautiful music to the world.
A great artist and a true gentleman. RIP.
Not so long ago, I expressed my admiration for the Master for his wonderful, masterful playing, mature, full of life, enthusiasm and brilliance. A great virtuoso interpretation. I eagerly came back here to admire the Master, his wonderful playing, which provided us with so many emotional experiences, emotions, elation, inner strength and a sense of great beauty. Unimaginable sadness and grief overwhelmed me when I learned that he was no longer with us. It brings tears to my eyes and those who adored him. Disbelief... We have lost one of the greatest pianists in the world. His wonderful concerts remain... How difficult it will be to listen to them now, knowing that He is no longer there :( . His great talent will remain in the hearts of all of us. Rest in peace and keep playing for the Angels and those who have passed away...❤🕯🙏🎼🎹🙏🕯. ..I express my sincere condolences to his Family and loved ones .... Piotr Poland
So privileged to have met you finally through your music, your touch, your home grown and deeply nurtured passion for your instrument. What a gorgeous trajectory it seems, but we know the sacrifices and toil of such a talent. What a time you came up in and what relatives with extraordinary lives you had around you. What a truly great musical life you have had Sir, and have given out to the people of the world ,so generously with such heart and soul.
Such a honour, and still such a mentor for us all. Thankyou so much. RIP X0
Meravigliosa intervista.
What a complete musician! What a giant of XX century

RIP Maestro Pollini, tu sonido vivirá siempre.
Rest in peace Maestro Pollini, your performances will live forever.
I still don't believe it, man :(

Einer der Größten. Nicht nur musikalisch!❤
che meravigliosa semplicità, la semplicità dei grandi. Grazie per la condivisione.
Amei!
RIP, Maestro!
Magnifico musicista e grande persona .
You recognize him from his unique sound : clear, with elements of glas, steel and wood. Stable tempi. Not more than what is in the text. We used to call that Roman clarity. He is immortal because there is no substitute for Pollini. Never will. He mentioned, among others, Walter Gieseking, which I find interesting .
Chiselled marble is what I think of his sound and solidity of form. A universality that stems from the finest Italian sensibility.
@@ljyhljyh8178 Agreed. I remember the distinct impression that he never showed all he could do in his recitals. There was a sense of modesty, but not false modesty, about him.
Great man! I personally love the way he sings while playing, it is a clear representation of how he researches the sound of his music, from his soul to the hands and the hears.
Thank you for this precious documentary!🎶
Many pianists do….some “silently”.
Grande Maestro - per Sempre ✨✨✨
Riposi in pace, maestro 😢
His voice is dark and velvety.
thank you for lifelong inspiration...
Thank you for such an interesting interview!
RIP Maestro Pollini
What an outstanding master pianist and true hamunitarian .. so rare nowadays
Riposa in pace, Maestro
Merci pour cet excellent reportage
Rest in peace. 🌹
obrigada por cpt.❤

Grazie.
Per me esistono solo C. Voiteh, Mewton-wood e Pollini come pianisti.
Grande pianista!!!
RIP
Banding Ravel and Scarlatti is quite epiphanic. Sends one back to both in search of hitherto undiscerned affinities. RIP comrade.🙏
DEP . 1:40

The armweight use of the infinite power of gravity is just one of many things we can learn from gipsy musicians.
Saw him in Brussels when we were about 20. " Beestachtig goed" said my friends on the " Muziekkamp Jeugd en Muziek" in Genval.
Very good, indeed. But music and politics must be separated, except for composers.
Music and politics must be separated….? According to whom ?

Re 0:30..., how can I take anyone like this seriously ?
Why do you need to take mr pollini serious every piece he plays? My father does not take me serious when i swear but he doesn’t abandon me. Should a thump on the piano be taken so serious?
@Mike Daniels You can't if you have a short attention span.
Stockhausen has been a well known composer for many years now, have you been living under a rock? How can I take you seriously as any scholar of music? (based on your comment of course 😂)
Stockhausen wrote this piece one morning when he couldn't find his sock.
As a matter of fact, you don't know Stockhausen...
