For anyone with ADD, Chris switches gears at 4:00 and gives us some awesome history. Great episode, man!
That animation back then looked so smooth and fantastic; even now!
WOW never knew that. Crazy
Seeing Chris having a greying beard makes me feel just as old having watched his content since 2007.
fr i remember getting excited after school everytime he uploaded a new video. the first one i ever watched was his ghosts n goblins video
Noooo.... hes aging? I thought he had found the formula to beat age. He looked the same in say 2008 as he did in 2020 😅
This age = Grand Master level 🎮
Liar! You didn't watch since then, nobody did! Why? Cause he retired & then came back! Meaning you stopped, until his return. Meaning you had to restart your streak!
@@orderofmagnitude-TPATP Sadly, everyone ages. Even the AVGN is beginning to show signs that he is growing older.
The Robin William's Popeye movie was great!
The reading rainbow nod is awesome! Great memories!
Holly crap... I would have never recognized him. That is him!
Cool to see he is still making videos
Holy shit I’m in love with the way Chris pronounces the name PUPEYE!
I gotta know his accent
Papaia
I thought it sounded like he was saying Pupeye too.
Same
I yam what I yam
He's Popeye the Sailor Man,
He lived in a fryin' pan,
He turns on the gas and it burns off his ass,
He's Popeye the Sailor Man.
(Toot-toot)
I haven't heard that version since I was 7
our version was he likes to go swimmin' with bald headed woman. Gotta love inbred texans
I always say
He's Popeye the Sailor Man
He lives in a garbage can
Turn on the heater
Blow off his Weiner
He's Popeye the Sailor Man
Toot toot
@@Pupeye-oe3ec lame is selling out your brand to a bunch of slobs like screenwave media and ditching the people that made you who you are ie bootsy, guitar guy, and mike
The Patreon is very nice. Glad that Chris is back in full force. I've been a fan since 2007.
Whoa!
Never knew about the Donkey Kong connection! 😮
Great research Chris! 👍😄
I forgot all about that "He lives in a garbage can" thing. 😮
Also cool you brought up the Popeye/Donkey Kong connection. I was prepared to write about it!
Good episode so far love your videos keep up the good work
The Reading Rainbow theme song was an awesome throwback! Chris is a hero to gamers.
Whoa! He’s back!
I love these IG videos! It keeps the classic “gaming review” feel to it. Please don’t ever change this!!!
Not sure how I do it. Maybe has to do with how I try very hard to keep the pacing on track and everything flowing correctly
He's Irate the Gamer man!
He's Irate the Gamer man!
He's sharp as a dart, he rips games apart!
He's Irate the Gamer man!
I know the years are going by fast with AVGN going bald, Roosterteeth is dead and Irate Gamer is showing some grey.
I remember this game well on NES. Great job another excellent vid.
Popeye being one of my absolute favorite franchises in the history of media, I'm glad to know that you picked up the torch on this one. I actually need to do a review on other Popeye games that came out in Europe LOL great video as always!
@@user-cs7ik8xd8r what the heck are you talking about
Another banger of an episode, great stuff Chris!
Really love your videos! Please keep up the great work!
Another great video brother! And the Reading Rainbow song after? Icing on the cake 👍🏾💪🏾
Lol good
Hey Chris, I i was having a horrible day today, my car broke down, and my back is killing me from the nature of my job. But this video put a smile on my face. Thank you
This game is a lot of fun, one of my favorite 80s Nintendo Arcade games
0:38 the intro brings me back to watching the mario 2 episode and some of season 5 (when it was called season 4 back then).
truly a masterpiece of an intro music
A short and sweet episode about the history of PUP-PAI!! haha, good stuff.
Awesome review! And I love your collection of Popeye figures in the beginning. Kudos to Boss Fight Studio for making them 😉
I'm so glad you reviewed the Popeye game, Chris. I have fond memories of it as well. I remember renting it from the local Blockbuster, and instantly, I fell in love. We couldn't find it in stores, so that Blockbuster was the only way to get it. Then, one day, the store was selling off all their NES games, and they sold us Popeye for $10. I still have that game, and I will keep it for the rest of my life, even if I didn't have an NES. It holds a special place in my heart. Plus, I LOVE anything Popeye, and I am digging that figure collection you've got there.
Great memory!
@@Pupeye-oe3ec Oh, and why is that? Are you another Irate Gamer hater like all these other trolls who never bothered to grow up and still think it's 2008?
@@Pupeye-oe3ec neither do you
Great to see so much new content from you! I loved the arcade version of this, though I never owned the NES port. I flipped between this, Q-Bert, Mario Bros, and Moon Patrol (until we started getting games like Pit Fighter and TMNT, of course). Great vid, love the RR theme at the end.
Great video Chris especially with the Reading rainbow theme song 😂
I'm really glad you're back to doing regular videos man. Great work!
GREAT EPISODE! Keep up the good work! I didn't know that Donkey Kong was based off that Popeye construction episode! Awesome!
Loved it 😀 thanks Chris for still bringing these to RUclips. Have you ever thought of reviewing the star wars games ? Would love to see your take on them
One day
I Love Popeye the Sailor Man it was a Fun Memories Watching this show and it's so Funny to Watch Marvelous Upload Chris You're Irate the Gamer Man!
Great episode! When I was kid, I rented this game from local Video Store when they they still had NES games. I don't think I've ever made it past the first level since I was a kid and not quite the gamer I am. I did play a sort of bootleg of the game on a little arcade device that has numerous knockoff games, and admittedly I did get better.
Also great closing credits with the "Reading Rainbow" theme. 🌈
AWESOME VID
Love your videos 😎
good short review..keep up
Nice episode Chris!
I wouldn't be mad if every episode ended with the Reading Rainbow music. I'm not even sure why the joke worked so well.
It didn't work, it's random garbage
Awesome video thanks
I used to have the Atari 5200 version! I loved this game! Great memories Mr Irate! Thank you!♥
Awesome content!
I used to sing the same playground version of that song.
Video deserves a lot more views than it has. This is great
We are winning the war to save pop culture and your amazing Irate gamer and 80s episodes have been helpful for nostalgia too
That's really weird I grew up elsewhere in the world and I am the same generation as Chris and I remember in my childhood we did also make a mock version of Popeye's theme song
6:36 i was expecting the word "sock" but it's "soup" 😂
Nice video! Patreon intro lil loud tho, spooked my lunch friends 😂
I'll fix it for next time
@@irategamer I love the new content and I'm so glad you are continuing the series. I loved your videos in 2008, and I still can obtain the hilarious entertainment as an adult! Keep it up Chris! 💯
Your videos truly show off heart and soul and dedication to the channel and content for the NES, Nintendo appreciates it im sure! I know we do! Maybe some of these titles you review will make it to the NES online collection 😉
Super flattered. Thank you much. Wait until you see the review I just wrapped up!
Great episode
Had to hit me with one the best nostalgia songs at the end
🔥🔥🔥IRATE GAMER 🔥🔥🔥 Absolute Legend !!!!
Awesome video
loved reading rainbow.....tx Chris
LOL Love that Skeletor part!😂
Thank you for making me laugh I’m sick a lot in and out of the hospital and help me to be able to laugh 🤣 👍
Get well soon
That credit part was the best 😂
The ending credits was good one.😆👍
Ha! I said "He lives in a garbage can!" in sync with you. Those elementary school yard songs stay with you through life don't they?
chris you instill the same exact energy into your videos as you did when you started. you're literally the same. it's incredible. time didn't affect that whatsoever clearly.
Not sure how I do it. Maybe has to do with how I try very hard to keep the pacing on track and everything flowing correctly
Best part of my day. I have a soft spot for Popeye. He's one of the earliest cartoons from my childhood. Great job Chris
My experience with this game was on the ColecoVision.
Funny how irate gamer is more enjoyable to watch these days instead of avgn ❤
The Irate hour. Oh yeah
Nice and simple video
I had the coleco Popeye game for the Atari 2600. Loved that game!
Popeye was one of the first NES Games i remember playing!
Wow! Reading Rainbow theme song. Ah, takes me back.
2:05 "It's me. Hi. I'm the problem it's me"
That's was amazing! Very impressive! Sir!😂
Thank you kindly!
@@irategamer Sir... i have a good idea... Atari game(swordquest)
I remember playing Popeye nes as a kid and I always enjoyed it. Good game.
Awesomeness video 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great video I Love popeye! The movie from robin Williams, the cartoons everything!
Ooooh, are those the Boss Fight figures? And if you want to do any more Japan-only Popeye games, there's this one good SNES platformer we never got...
oh yeah, cant wait for series 3! The goon!
Usagi reference was dope 💯
To The IRATE Gamer:
Be aware that there was also Popeye the Sailor Man video game that was on the Atari 2600 back in 1983 as well which you can watch the commercial about it in the link below:

I remember playing that popeye game for the atari as a kid.
Popeye video game was one of the few video games. I actually played growing up hell I own the NES in collection I have a lot of nostalgia towards this game
Thanks for bringing back the old intro, I’m not feeling the new one tbh. Such a nostalgia vibe! 🙌🏽
I like to alternate them out
@@irategamerLove you man! Always watching your videos at work, Die Hard and Robocop are easily my favorites. That 7-Up game also always cracks me up 😂 We need more Ronnie or the other characters, also unrelated but I was very impressed by how you used sprites as characters like Mario, the 7-up character, Goro, etc. That seems like a hassle hahah
You are amazing. 🙂
"Pupeye." Cool!
asociate producer simon belmont jajajaja 😂 great
Can make review about power blade 1 and 2
"Pup"Eye
When you said sequel, I was thinking the (possibly) obscure Game Boy cartridge, which acts like it was trying to tread the same path as that plumber guy by turning into a side scrolling platformer. Does make sense that he would get a Famicom sequel, as I understand his star burned a little brighter over there in Japan. As well as over in America... on Aisle 12. (Branded cans of spinach. Figures.)
The reason I always loved Spinach.
I'm a proud owner of the actual Popeye arcade!
Pupeye... lol love it
This is one of the most addicting games of all time, in my opinion.
I put work into this game as a kid.
This brings back memories of the late 2000s! IG content is so much better than what the "other" angry nerd has turned into.
I'm hearing that alot
@@irategamerwe can tell you still enjoy doing the IG. And I don't think most people realize how much effort goes into one of your videos. It's not just something you put together in 5 minutes and move on to the next cash grab video. I truly appreciate that Chris 👊 Keep em coming!
As long as your here watching, it's worth it
1:21- Oh, Chris, I too learned various vulgar versions of the Popeye theme as a kid. Ya know, turned on the gas and blew off my ass, I eat the flies and spit out their eyes, etc.
This was an excellent version of a wonderful game! PoPeYe!
Haha haha Reading Rainbow Camy love it
That's cool that the game was actually based off an episode of the show.
I like Popeye for NES. It's no masterpiece but it's pretty fun to play! I thank my late grandparents for getting me into the cartoons along with Bugs Bunny. They had a VHS copy of 4 Popeye shorts. Those were the days...
Speaking of Bugs Bunny, Irate should review Birthday Blowout and Crazy Castle on NES. I believe he won't like Birthday Blowout.
There were many versions of Popeye. There is an Atari 2600 version, an Intellivision version, Colecovision, Atari 5200, Commodore 64, Commodore Vic 20, and Atari 800 versions WELL before the NES version. Didn't try any of those?
Olive is like Taylor swift.
She uses and discards men like swift does.
lol
Your production coordinator asked me to give you a message. He says "WAAAAAHHHH."
Artie Lange?
Graphics look great on the arcade version.
Usagi is rabbit in Japanese? Oh I guess that’s why they also call sailor moon bunny, man I feel like an idiot now
lol
Age....finally, after a long hard catch, has finally caught up with our guy here. Watch him in 2008 to even 2021 and he looks the same!
But i noticed a tinge of grey beard??!
Noooo.... male pattern baldness is already erasing the nerd! Now its coming for my irate gamer. 😢
Lol, it's been there for awhile. It's just noticeable when I grow it out
Reading rainbow nice 👍
