Thanks for the video.
Question. I have a dual antenna whip nagoya. It has 3.5vhf and 5.5 of gain uhf. If i tune the uhf frequencie tona desire, will the gain dimish or be affected and the vhf .
I don’t know that much about antennas. You need to talk to a HAM radio guy.
Have you had a chance to check you signal with a SWR? (Standing Wave Ratio). Just did a radio install on my new RZR and I know a 1.15 on the meter is right on, but the best I got was 1.30. - 1.80. I spoke to PCI and they said "you should really be below 2.0 so your numbers should be fine, rarely get to 1.15"
Thanks again for another informative video.
I have not. Would have to get with a radio shop for that
@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad Just buy a SWR meter from HRO or Amazon and two jumper coax cables to hook it up. Meter will cost like $60 bucks and if you plan on staying in the hobby you will use it for the rest of your life. I would never cut an antenna off what is listed on a piece of paper without checking SWRs. There are WAY too many factors outside of the antenna that will effect SWR. Coax type, connectors, length of coax, mount, ground, ect ect.
If you're pushing full power (which I'm assuming you are) and you have a SWR that is high you can do some damage to your equipment. As Titantramp said, 2.0 SWR is danger zone really you should shoot for anything below 1.5. Also, if you plan on getting your ticket you should just leave it full band :)
SD Cruiser you know way more about this than me. Some of this is over my head. I just relocated my antenna to the top of my rack. At the hood reception was being impacted a bit. But I do need to get it all tested to make sure it’s working at optimum levels for the best range possible
@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad You know astronomically more about Off-Road :) For the best optimum location you want it center and above everything, so like dead center of the roof. Just looked to see where your rack is, if its on top of that it should work much better well. On my truck I have my antenna on the fender as well. I operate through repeaters via DMR though so I can get away with a lot more than a person running simplex. Hopefully you used a mount that you can rotate it back so its not smacking everything :D
Ham is all about experimentation, what makes it fun. Hopefully I did not come off as rude, was just trying to give some info. I'm not your typical viewer, I don't do off road stuff. I actually watch your channel for all the modifications you do to the F150. :) Gives me lots of ideas on how to do things with my truck.
SD Cruiser yeah, rack install is the highest possible and centered. I also added a grounding strap to get a better ground since more of the aluminum.
Since most of us on the offroad side don’t have a license, we stay away from repeaters. I need to get my license .
nope. not that way.
Nope...literal hack. i figured he would be being a Ford "Raptor" guy😢...
