- This is a typical chord movement that you will hear in jazz. Occasionally, you'll find it written in as part of the lead sheet. However, you can also use them to fill out long major chords. I demonstrate both in the lesson.
I call them Basie moves because I associate the sound with Count Basie.

Chord movements are a beautiful part of jazz piano. This one is very common and you have probably heard it before. Sometimes it's written on a lead sheet but a lot of the time, we use them or variations of them to fill time. Hope it helps you! Shan
Sir it’s been a long time your rules of third concepts are awesome 👏 please sir help us beginners by posting more videos on RUclips thank you very much.
Thank you very much for your comment. There is more coming! I've been SO busy teaching students and running the Jazz Skills members site but I'm back here as well. :)
jeng zarate - you’re better off starting with www.jazzskills.com . There’s lots of beginner stuff there plus you’re walked in easy steps than on RUclips where it’s just tips or excerpts of what’s already on jazz skills site. Try it one time and see for yourself and you won’t be begging like you’re any longer 😏☹️
@@brothercaleb thank you ill check it.
Count Basie In My Opinion played like a Painter. The whole Band was the Painting but at the Beginning and End you had a Few Basie keys that was like his signature on a masterpiece. You can easily tell a Basie tune with those signature Key strokes at the right time.
I agree with you. There was no-one like him! I love Basie and the band.
Where have you been. I see your last vid was a year ago
I've been overwhelmed with students and members but I'm here again! Thanks for being here Mike.
@@JazzSkills I really appreciate you taking time out to share your talents.
