Love the way Oscar calls Count Basie by his name Bill. So fortunate that these recordings exist. Thanks for posting.
As much as I love Count Basie's music, I never would have guessed that was his first name.
Could listen to these giants all day long! Priceless!!
Love it when Peterson just mindlessly messes around and its better than most people will ever play :-)
I was 20 when this production aired, and then as now had some goose bumps & some tears watching two pillars of jazz interact, play and have fun like a couple of kids. You can see the love and respect they have for each other in this. So sad that we don't have them with us anymore, but great for posted recordings like this, thanks Emile!
Their first duet album "Satch and Josh" is sensational.
Count Basie is one of the coolest dudes of all time
We are so lucky in this day and age that they preserved moments like this. Two jazz greats, just having a chat. It's a side of Count Basie I've never seen before. Just makes me love his music all the more. And I love the part where Oscar Peterson says, "I can't just hate like that." and Basie says, "I can." and he gives Oscar that look. Priceless.
Today I learned Count Basie's first name is Bill! Now what about Count Chocula and Sesame Street's "The Count"?
Go listen to these Titans on their "Satch and Josh" album, it's a delight.
Count Basie was so kool !
I've watched this video more than once and it's likely I'll watch it a few more times.
Two musical legends -- ACTUALLY worthy of the description -- having a conversation! It puts a smile on my face (and gives me hope for mankind).
Art Tatum makes my jaw drop, but Basie makes my feet tap. (Advantage Basie.)
So many great personalities in those days
They seem to have a real friendship with each other.
Delightful
LOVELY AND MARVELOUS COUPLE!!! GREETINGS FROM CANADA
What the Count is talking about with the pedals on uprights is that the pedals on some of the old saloon and ragtime pedals didn't do the same thing that pedals on today's pianos do.
This is AMAZING!!! Thank you so much for uploading. Are there more like this?
brutal uprights....LOL....I've played some of those in the church HAHAHA~~~
And some of us can make a grand piano sound pretty "brutal" too. Whew! But I'm not a piano player; maybe THAT is why it sounds brutal.
The only thing that made me think it was him was his voice, I thought the other man was him or his son 🥰❤️🖤💚#I love Count 🥰❤️🖤💚
When Baddie said they were all "soul keys" in the lower register... I was wishing we could get a shot of that to see if they were all black or the usual white and black. Anyone know
Eighty eight keys seem to be sufficient for most piano players.
Meh - 93 or go home!
;-)
@@RogerBarraud We don't want to make our current piano jealous . . . or worse. What if they ran away together.???
Why not 128?
@@GreenBoy9000 I don't have enough space in my house.
@@nemo227 2 keys, have fun nerd
So much untapped meme potential here
Bosendorfer imperials are the worlds best grand pianos, bar none! That’s what Oscar Peterson plays them.
I loved the bit where Basie says to Peterson, "They made that monster for you."
Yummy!!
For those that don't know, Bill, is Count Basie's real first name.
