Now you're getting stadler metro sets, same as the Tyne and Wear metro, I would want to see Merseyrail become what it already sort of is: the Merseyside Metro.
More stations, extensions to the east of Liverpool and more frequent services.

Depends how you classify 'oldest' because the first of these trains were transferred from what is now South Western Railways. The four car sets were too long for up north, so they took car 3 of each set and incorporated them into newer 455 class. Car 3 on these rustbuckets are still rattling themselves to death on one of the busiest lines in the country, the Kingston loop, and still serving Waterloo, years after we were promised new trains

Loved the former LMS (503) units. My regular commute from Hoylake to Liverpool James Street started in 1974, those old units were draughty, noisy and full of character.
Perhaps a new generation will eventually go “glassy eyed” over the 777 units?

@@peterbrown1012 As a council tax payer to CWaC I feel frustrated when they introduced bus & cycle lanes into Chester, then after a matter of weeks take them out of use, rather a waste of public money. They have withdrawn funding on local bus services including the 33 & X3 which served Ince and Elton, potholes in roads are not being attended to, every two months I am given a job lot of black bin bags which I have to return to the town hall as I have no use for them as I still have some from the days of Chester City Council!! They need to prioritise where they spend money. Good luck to an improved train service to Helsby.
