Club looks to be banking on being able to bring back the "Loan Army". U22 and Cobham trained players are exempt from the 2022-current loan limitations. A large portion of who they're buying falls into that rule, so the plan is to limitlessly loan out these kids, pluck any "diamonds" for the senior squad, turn a profit on the others. By the time the player hits 22 years, the club will be able to consider some of these guys "Home Grown", fulfilling that criteria on the senior squad, as well as loan rules. It's an ugly strategy, but it's not like we've not seen this being, as at one point we had close to 40 players out on loan.

The club is now worth a lot less than Clearlake paid for it. They bought an elite club, with Champions League revenue and sponsorship deals and turned it into a mid-table club. Clearlake should have purchased Brentford or Brighton, it would have been much cheaper. Their ability to attract good players is now much reduced. From a business point of view, they don't seem very smart. Who would pay £4.25 billion for Chelsea at the moment? They offload elite coaches like Tuchel and Pochettino who question their decisions. It is a mess.

I think Rory is overreacting to the sales of the academy products and just using them as a reason to bash Chelsea. Of all the players who came through the academy and have been sold in the last couple of seasons or rumoured to be sold soon, which of those players would Rory have wanted Chelsea to buy had they been at other clubs instead? None of them are good enough if Chelsea want to be an elite club, I'm not saying the players they've bought are any better, but if you can balance the books by selling average players and then buy people you do want instead, it's a great idea especially when they count as pure profit on the books.

Don't often agree with Rory but he's spot on here. Chelsea have made it clear they want Gallagher gone. He will be sadly missed and Chelsea will be the worse for it, but the best thing for Gallagher now is to go to Atlético, and I wish him every success.

I think Rory is overreacting to the sales of the academy products and just using them as a reason to bash Chelsea.
Of all the players who came through the academy and have been sold in the last couple of seasons or rumoured to be sold soon, which of those players would Rory have wanted Chelsea to buy had they been at other clubs instead?
None of them are good enough if Chelsea want to be an elite club, I'm not saying the players they've bought are any better, but if you can balance the books by selling average players and then buy people you do want instead, it's a great idea especially when they count as pure profit on the books.
