The power of quad tracking guitars !

- Just for fun I recorded 4 guitar tracks playing what is probably Metallica’s heaviest song. I didn’t do any post processing there’s a excess low end product of the quad tracking I’m aware of that. The setup made it sound more like RTL album tone which I love because of how raw and full of character it sounds. Thanks for watching 🤘

Dude that is one hell of a tone, so evil and menacing.
feels like i’m marching into a layer
The tone should not be _that perfect🔥
The tone that should not be
Would've been nice to hear 1 vs 2 vs 3 vs 4 tracks as the video progressed.
I personally do 3 tracks, 1 panned to the left and right and 1 in the centre
I think Metallica actually did five tracks on MoP, they did the same thing you did except quad tracked panned left and right with one centered
why 1 in the middle? it will just disturb the vocals and the kick and snare
James called it the thickener.. a centered stereo track with some of the highs and lows rolled off@@mojolito
@@mojolitoWhen I do something like that I'll turn it down a lot and scoop out the highs and lows to give it a really midrangy sound
The first beginning riff when the distortion guitars come in is the heaviest riff know to man kind. My favorite Metallica riff
The riff is really simple, but i love it
I play guitar in a Metalband myself and we record all our songs „only“ with double-tracked guitars. For me personally the sound created is more rough but also more distinct, which creates a different type of aggressive and heavy sound. I also feel like the Bass gets more space in the mix to come through. It also is lot closer to what you will hear in a live or rehearsal situation.
I have to admit though, that the quad-tracked sound on its own is sick AF. It just depands a lot on the music and sound you want to create, wether quad or double-tracking (or something different) is the way to go :)
Thx for the vid man, keep on rocking \m/

Fret buzz…
How do you get so much string buzz? Do you get new strings every time you record a video with a clean tone in it?
The neck probly needs some relief since the buzz is on the 2nd fret
My take on this is that, for recording, guitarists should use a different guitar for clean and distorted. Metal guitarists want the action as low as possible for fast playing but this can sound bad when they are playing clean. Distortion will mask a little bit of buzz. To be clear, I'd say its wise to have the action a little higher for clean playing.
Metal is particularly bad for some choked, buzzy clean tones, especially when you add floyd rose guitars which make clean sounds unbelievably puny in my opinion.
Bro in the video here ain't doing too bad with the cleans tho imo and the distorted tone is glorious, which is what's being demonstrated anyway. Fine/10
@@geartweaker8518 not always true. a lot of actual guitarists who have known bands like the action a little higher (Hetfield, Gary Holt). They like to "fight it" a little more.
Thingy live 1993 tone?
@@DerSilvano for me it's like a mix between various tones that the band used xdddxxdd, but especially 1993 live tone, exactly that clean tone, but anyway, the tone of this video is super cool xdxxxd
