we had the same national dury for 20 years so we had the same 1980s pop songs being sent for years! IT changed and the younger generation who are passionate about irish mythology and culture and its changes voted in mass for our witch Bambi! the Holy Joes - are the overtly devout catholics! they did the same with a gay singer 3 years ago.
This time Ireland has excelled far beyond sending a "turkey" to the song contest. They are sending someone who is neither a man or a woman to scream the beejibbers out of every child watching the upcoming eurovision. Great Job.
ireland is p transphobic still sadly, bambie is openly nonbinary and goes by they/them as you can imagine people just hate them for existing. compared to the rest of the acts Bambie was the only one with any sort of uniqueness, they are by far one of the best entries we have ever sent just because i dont think anyone has ever sent anything like this to the ESC before and i personally love the contest for that reason. LET3 last year is a great example of why i love the ESC.
I think you have it the wrong way around. The only phobia are against teachers and public sector workers who lost their jobs and in some cases, have ended up in prison because they still believe in the age old and scientific belief of "male" and "female". The only specific gender hate crime was several months ago when a self proclaimed trans person walked into a Christian School in Nashville Tennessee and shot dead several children. The person apparently targeted the school for its belief in the biological belief of "male" and "female"
The petition I highly, highly doubt had anything to do with their sexuality and was much more likely to do with the sorta "witchcraft" aesthetic they have. Reason I believe this is I didn't happen to watch this year's eurosong but my mam did and she, a devout Catholic, shut it off at the beginning of Bambi's song as she assumed they'd be just rapping about hexs (given the song starts out a bit unorthodox). Now my mam had nothing to do with a petition however, given Ireland's Catholic history I'd not be surprised if that was the reason for it. I'd also say some of the people who did the petition even just saw Bambi's aesthetic and were like yeah, no.
