    I feel like in today's youtube world it is hard to become big. back then people didn't care what the video looked like. So people like you were able to grow. I feel anyone who starts today needs to be 100% flawless and have the most expensive equipment. any camera less then 600 is not going to work. That's just how I feel.

    • @AlexandreaGarza
      @AlexandreaGarza  8 лет назад +32

      +fantasyxo90 I see your point! However I don't recommend starting a channel to "become big". Do it as a hobby bc you love it! Anything forced just for money or popularity will be clear in your videos.

    • @beeisforbianca6616
      @beeisforbianca6616 8 лет назад +5

      Yes its sad to say but you do need quality equipment!! back in those days of filming videos any old sloppy way did work because nobody really knew better. But honestly if you had a choice of bootleg video and cinema quality wouldn't you want to see the better quality version not to waste your time? Also there is billions of people on RUclips everyday so if your content is decent and the quality is decent I'm sure you can still get a big following...

    • @morningmayan
      @morningmayan 5 лет назад +1

      I remember! My channel was big back then I sat under a tree and shot myself on my computer. It was about content. Now the competition is tough I guess:)

    Since Michael doesn't technically have to work now do you regret moving to Nashville since you moved there for his job? Do you think you will move back to where your family is?

    You have definitely have grown since you first started out and RUclips hasn't gotten to your head and it didn't change your personality! Love you for that! And glad it turned into a family business! As long as you two are happy, why not!!!

  • @jonelafilms
    @jonelafilms 8 лет назад +4

    It's really nice that you are talking about RUclips as a career and you are not a hypocrite as most RUclipsrs on this topic. They are all about "don't do it for the money", "don't do it as a career", "do it only for fun" where you said it yourself, you did want RUclips to be your career, and I think that is very down to earth and honest of you to say. Thanks for this entire video. xo

    You can tell how passionate you are about youtube. I have never doubted your authenticity. Never lose that! It sets you apart from all the other people who are only doing it for the money. The tips you gave may help people to take the plunge becoming a youtuber, but the trick to longevity on youtube is to be as genuine as alex is. xo

    I watched this video about a year ago just because I was curious about what goes on "behind the scenes" in your life.
    Now I'm making my own videos and watching this is SO HELPFUL! It's funny how you can watch the same thing over and over and get something different out of it each time.
    Thank you for opening up and sharing so much about your life here!

    I loved this video! This is the very first video I've seen and I subscribed right away. I'm a small RUclipsr and seeing a successful RUclipsr be so open and willing to share their tips and tricks, filming gear, etc. is so so nice and so helpful. I've come across a few RUclipsrs who are so greedy when it comes to sharing anything at all about how they film or how they operate their own channel, but this video is really genuine and just great! Thank you Alexandrea, for this video and for simply being genuine and really staying true to yourself & to those looking to get help from someone who's climbed the ladder. I really appreciate that you weren't selfish to keep your tips and techniques to yourself. This video will definitely help many and that's wonderful in itself! I really do hope your channel continues to grow & grow & grow! Of that, you're very deserving. You're very right when you say people want to know real people, & you're definitely one of them! That's awesome! Thanks again!

    Currently in school for fashion and a huge beauty/fashion lover. Whenever I go out, I am complimented & questioned about my clothes, makeup, hair, etc. almost everywhere I go and often told to start a RUclips channel for this. I always wanted to but pretty lost on how to begin, until I found your channel. Thank you so so so much for all of your extremely helpful tips, advice, products, etc. I watched like 10 videos before I found yours and you were(are) theee best & the only one that stayed exactly on topic and answered every single question I had in my head. Again, thank you so much. You helped me (& I'm sure a huge bunch of others) A LOT. xoxo

    I really appreciate this Video! I started my channel 4yrs ago and like you said kinda eft it alone and since last year, I decided I wanted to commit myself to posting more especially now that my career as a hairstylist is growing. When I got to 1K subs I was ecstatic LOL and I have gained 700 followers in like 3 months, which I am over the top with. I know that I am no where near what bigger RUclipsrs are but I am definitely committed. You gave me so much insight and inspiration and I appreciate people like you that are willing to help!. Again Thank you and god bless

    I know I’m so late watching this video lol, but I have been watching you and Michael since your Nashville Days and you have been such an inspiration to me and helping me get out of my shell and go for it with youtube.
    I am kicking myself for not starting like 3-4 years ago when I first said I would really like to do youtube, but I have started finally in July of 2018 and am currently doing it and I am seeing results slowly.
    I am definitely going to stick with it and keep going I’m not a quitter lol, but again, just wanted to really say THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for being you and such an inspiration.

    Thank you so much for sharing your RUclips wisdom with us! I'm going to need to check out all of that great equipment you recommended for filming, especially that camera/lens. I just recently started a youtube channel (nail art), and unfortunately, I don't have great equipment. But what you said at the end is exactly what everyone else says: start a channel anyway! Also, I'm so glad you spoke about upload frequency, because as a RUclips newbie, I feel like there's so much pressure to upload so frequently (almost every day) in order to gain more subscribers. I don't know how some people do it! :P

  • @stephaniesalazar2773
    @stephaniesalazar2773 8 лет назад +3

    Hey ,when you first started out did you have all the equipment needed or did you just continue to build as you went on working on your channel? For example, i do not have the perfect lighting yet or right and I am using my lap top cam to film , but as I move forward with my channel I will be upgrading and investing. Its still ok in my book , I know creating and moving forward is still better then waiting till you have everything and the moment is perfect , that will never happened it would just keep anyone stuck in fear and not moving forward. Curious what you started out with. Thank you for giving the links to where you got your equipment products! :)
    Ps .... where you get your fluffy chair!?? ;)

    Your lighting is seriously perfect. Also! I don't know if you have heard of it, but I use it for my videos and it's a lifesaver. I use Compressor by Apple and it compresses your video down like RUclips would and it tremendously decreases the time it would take to upload your video. I recommend checking it out. It takes around an hour sometimes more to compress, but then it usually takes less than 20 minutes to upload to RUclips. It is amazing! Just though I should tell you! :)
    Xoxo, Sarah Jane

    *Alex, you inspired me to begin my journey into the Beauty community. I'm starting on IG before I begin making RUclips videos as I work full time and I'm a mother of 3, so time is extremely limited for me. I've loved watching you grow these past couple years that I've been watching your channel. I've learned a ton from your videos, vlogs/tutorials and all. I just wanted to say "THANK YOU!!!" This video has definitely helped me to prepare myself better on what I should expect and how I can brand myself and be my own INFLUENCE. Since I'm just now starting, I will say it is tough to build a following when you're starting from nothing, but I've been doing everything I can to engage with others and get noticed by other beauty instagrammers although I haven't seen much of a difference. Hopefully things will start taking off for me, but until then I will take all the tips and help I can get.*

    This is one of the best behind the scenes videos I've seen to-date! Thank you for the lighting links as well, I've been contemplating a lighting system because that's my major limiting factor at the moment, and I love the way you style your videos. I'd love to see a "hurdles" video, where you discuss common problems with a new channel, and things you overcame to get to be a full time content creator, like the balance you talked about w/ school+work+filming. Have you always stuck to a strict schedule, or has it evolved? Did you delete the previously uploaded content you deemed unsatisfactory after becoming successful, right as you gained momentum, or was it an action that helped hone your brand? Wonderful video!!

    I loved watching this video! What impacted me the most was when you said to put out something that you're proud of but don't kill yourselves trying to make it perfect the first time. I'm more into the visual/editing side of making videos than I am about being in front of the camera (kinda shy), but like you said, people want to see real people, not perfect people. Thank you for that! ;-)💝

    This couldn't have come at a more perfect time. I've been contemplating RUclips for 6+ years now, and I'm finally ready to do it. I wish it wouldn't have taken me so long, but I don't think I was mature enough to do it until a couple of years ago.

    I have no idea how anyone can dislike this video, but okay.
    This is the first video of yours that I've ever watched. I think that it's absolutely informative and all the questions you've selected to be answered from the bunch are great questions with given answers that are helpful, honest and straight forward! I appreciate this video. I found it to be super useful for me as I am thinking about starting my own channel as well and have been entertaining that idea for YEARS! Thank you so much!
    I am now your newest subscriber!

    Alex, first off... I LOVE YOU! You are my greatest inspiration because of the sweet, caring, fun person that you are. I really needed to hear what you had to say about your career because I just started my own channel and you answered a lot of my questions. Thank you for pursuing us, followers, and I hope to be like you someday here on RUclips. Thanks again, girl!

It's not just thrown together and you take it seriously which is amazing! Well done you deserve all the best😘

    Out of all the channels I watch, you have been the biggest & most positive youtuber that really is giving me a shove to try this out because as you said you just started out using the camera off the macbook! So since ive gotten my macbook its been an idea running through my head and hoping to find something to post that make me as happy as it has made you! Thank you so :)

    This is my first time ever watching one of your videos and I loved it! You kept me so interested the entire time. Also, you remind me so much of my older sister; you guys have similar mannerisms and speak very similarly. I think that also factored in to me being so drawn into this video. Your channel is lovely! This video was so informative and helpful. Thank you so much!

    Hey Alex,
    I just wanted to say a quick thank you for this video. I started my channel about a year ago and it can be an adrenaline rush at times and sometimes it just seems like you get so addicted to the social media that you want to take a long break. This video really helped me to keep going and keep doing what I love to do.
    Again thank you and I hope you have a great night :)

    This was awesome. I am a 34 year old, full-time working mom of 2 kids. I am nervous to get into vlogging, but excited for the challenge. I want to talk about my fitness journey and life as a working mom. Wish me luck!

    OMG! Thank you for this video. It was so nice of you when you said at the end of the video you would watch other people's channel if they had one. That's amazing. I am from Uruguay living in Florida making videos of life style, fashion, etc in Spanish. I don't really know any other youtubers in my area. I feel very much apart from the whole thing and a bit lost. I tried to be consistent uploading and put videos that I would like to see. I would love to collaborate with other youtubers in my same category but it is just hard. 😳
    It would mean so much to me if you stop by. Thank you again for this video Alex! And I loved that you work with your husband. 😘

    Thank you so much for making this video! This was very open and honest. I feel like a lot of times people are really closed off about how this job works and it is hard for people who are thinking about trying it out to get started with the proper information. I started my channel because I fell in love with this community and want to give back to it. At this point I am not completely comfortable with talking to camera, so I also stated a blog. I have been really enjoying that! Alex, I really agree with what you said about Instagram being so important! Another thing I do other than using hashtags is actually tagging the company in my post. It lets them know that I exist, and am interested in their product. More and more I have been getting a response from that. Good luck to everyone who is pursuing their dreams! It is a truly amazing thing! 💖

    Idk why but I felt a little sad when you answered the question about How you got successful so quick. Totally ignoring the last 4 years of work. I really appreciate the details in this video and how you simplified it. I am still in the infant phrase of my channel even though I've had it for 3 years. I am now taking it a more serious. Thank you for this advice!

    This video was so incredibly helpful! I wish I could have watched this in the first hour so you were available to answer questions! I just recently started my own channel and I really agree with you when you said that rather than focusing on absolute perfection, you should get yourself out there and try your best. I'm slowly realizing that my videos will most likely not go exactly as planned and you have to roll with it! Your channel is such an inspiration for me and I'm so glad you gave some behind the scenes because most influential content creators don't! Love your style, channel, and personality! ✿

    Alex, I'm so happy for you and Michael him being able to work part time and working with you has to be awesome. You guys are so young and to able to do what you 2 are doing is great. My husband just retired and I love love having him home. He was in construction so no more worries where the job was concerned. You know I think you 2 are great. From the first time for me seeing Michael he just seemed so laid back and such a gentlemen and really was he's so sweet to you, and you can tell you 2 click. Really enjoyed this video. You will have to do a Q&A with you and Michael. Hope Colby is doing good. Thanks for all your work, oh and thanks for introducing Mallory she is a doll.

    What a great video! I have to say when I started my channel almost a year ago I didn't realize how hard being a RUclipsr really is. Not that I expected it to be easy but I didn't think about all the hats you have to wear and what all goes into making a 15 minute video. At the same time, I started my beauty channel for 2 reasons.....I love people and I love makeup. Those two components parley into why I'm still making videos. My channel hasn't grown as quickly as I wish it would have and I don't have huge brands sending me free products, but that's not why I started my channel. If you start for the wrong reasons you can end up being very disappointed because you can't control how other people are going to receive you. Although this is not my full time job, my channel is something I love devoting the time and effort into and the reasons why I started my channel are the reasons why I know I'll be doing this for years to come!

    Thank you for the great tips and encouragement. It felt like you were talking to me! I had started my channel 3 years ago and filmed a few videos but stopped myself. Just last week I decided I was just going to do it and I uploaded 2 new videos this week. I know I have a lot of work to do and things to improve like audio, lighting, branding, etc but I knew it was now or never. I can't improve if I never start.

    Totally felt you on being your own worst critic. I began putting videos up in 2009 here and there, and most of them have never seen the light of day lol. It's mainly been from self criticism, but also because I've found it difficult to mesh all the different genres I like into one, like who'd wanna watch eccentric ol' me? But I think you're right, I just need to put myself out there, upload what I like, and hope for the best!
    Great video chica and I'm happy I've found your videos!

    Hey Alex! You are honestly one of my favorite youtubers! I have a channel as well but lately i've been in a funk. I get discouraged because I feel like my videos aren't as good as other youtubers who have a bigger space to film or better quality products to film with, but watching this video just helped me remember why I love filming youtube videos and it honestly raised my spirits once again to try to get myself out there and get noticed. This video was soo helpful xoxo
