The reason Goo Lagoon has an ocean underwater is because it's based on a brine pool, which is basically when water with higher concentrations of salt and other minerals and is heavy enough to separate from the rest of the water in a lake. The reason why the fish can't breathe in it is kind of a kid friendly way to show how, when fish swim through a brine pool, they usually get overloaded with salt and have a seizure and die if they're in there too long. Some fish are able to live in there but they're few and far between, and fish that hunt in the brine pools have a resistance to the high concentrations but usually can't be in there long either. So the idea of the fish drowning in the water underwater isn't entirely true, but it's based on a natural phenomenon. Stephen Hillenburg (Spongebob's creator) was a marine biologist and he inserted a lot of those little facts and quirks about sea life and biomes in the cartoon, which I think is really cool. The more you know!
yeah R.I.P. stephen hillenburg... nowadays in the new episodes you see pearl wearing a water helmet in sandy's home ..a WHALE
So reverse SpongeBobs first visit. Instead of suffocating she’s drowning herself. Great
@@MW-bs1nb I saw that and was very confused, because whales and manatees both need air. Pearl should only need a water suit to prevent being crushed.
I assume it’s just to remain moist and not dry up from the lack of water. Also it’s not like breathing air was ever a factor with Pearl, she remains underwater 24/7 without needing to swim up for air.
@@brandonlyon730 still makes no sense, as the comment before you said, she'd just need a water suit to prevent being crushed ..pearl doesn't have much screen time and you know whales can take a long time without air, so you technically don't know if she's getting fresh air off screen, but seeing her in sandy's home with a water helmet is just plain stupid lol
26:12 The Goo Lagoon is supposed to be a brine pool, which is a real-life phenomenon of "water underwater".
This has to be a set thing! You guys haven’t seeing SpongeBob is a crime.
It is, we’re already on ep 10 on patreon 😁
the thought that someone hasn't seen spongebob before is quite unthinkable, also i'd like to give abit of a fun fact if sorta stupid reacts didn't know, the creator of spongebob is also a marine biologist, meaning some of the stuff in spongebob like how the clams move, is based off of real life
@@gabrielewilson4678someone just born never seen it. Not that unthinkable 😉😉

The beginning of one the most legendary cartoons of all time…
Regardless of your stance on episodes post Seasons 4 and 5, and even with Nickelodeon’s poor marketing due to streaming destroying cable, you have to commend how long they’ve managed to keep the show alive (whether for better or worse). The most recent episode titled “Friendaversary” had Squidward recreating scenes from Seasons 1, 2, and 3 - like the salmon suit from “Dying for Pie” and wearing/doing the things that attract a sea bear from “The Camping Episode” - to bring back SpongeBob’s memory of him. It shows that the animators and staff still hold the show in high regard due to the most iconic moments of the earlier seasons.
That’s easily the nicest thing Squidward has done in years.
Or maybe nostalgia bait.
"Just you, me, and this brick wall you've built between us"
Squidward is indeed a fan favorite. Because the fans grew up and are now working in customer support. ... That increased the fans empathy considerably.
Fun fact: SpongeBob draining all of the Earths oceans, which has a mass of 4.5 quintillion tons, and explode all the water on top of him in just one second to refill the whole thing, requires an energy of 6,000 yottatons. Which is enough to nuke Jupiter 13 times over.
Wow
love that we have the numbers on this. math is amazing
Irrefutable proof that cartoons are the most powerful force of human's imagination.
Let me guess you also watch death battle 😅
I'm 28 years old. One of my earliest memories is remembering the debut airing of SpongeBob, and from episode 1 I was in love with this silly and fun show. It's amazing how culturally ubiquitous SpongeBob has become
I'm too young to have seen the debut, but this show is one of my first memories too. I have countless DVDs and some VHS tapes
I was literally three months old when SpongeBob came out and it is still funny.
I’m 28 too lol it’s one of my happiest memories was seeing the announcement trailer then watching the premiere it’s wild to think about but we’ve been here since the beginning
28 here too lol and I’ve watched SpongeBobs since the beginning it was one of my favorite cartoon to watch and it was always great when they were playing marathons.
Same with me. '95 gang, assemble! 🤣
It's super rare to see people who never watched SpongeBob. You should definitely keep going it's super entertaining to see first time reactions to classics.
Goo Lagoon makes more sense if you know about brine pools. That's a part deep in the ocean where the salt in the water is more concentrated and behaves like a thicker liquid underwater. Although fish usually try to avoid going into them because they could suffer a toxic shock from all that salt.
That "creepy singing" was the one and only, Tiny Tim.
People who find that creepy probably find salad too spicy like come on that's weak lol
I think people find it creepy because of his other song thats been playing in the Insidious franchise😅
@@Xeroforte I solved the mystery-- the song was put on the soundtrack of some scary movies, but the movie-soundtrack version has a kind of low resonance in the background like an air conditioner, which is meant to make it sound spooky (but just sounds annoying). When you listen to the normal, real version without that silly audio trick, its just nice, happy music again.
You’ve never seen this before? We’ll get ready for a wild ride 😂
Boom and Seeohknee haven’t which we said in the video
@@sortastupid I know I’m just shocked since this show is so old
I feel like never having seen SpongeBob is weirder than Avatar because of how much SpongeBob permeated throughout culture in general vs Avatar
"It's a giraffe!" always cracked me up as a child. So did Spongebob's bubble-blowing technique. LOL.
YES YES YES YES!!!!!! GET READY TO VIEW A HISTORICAL MONUMENT PEOPLE!!! This show, first three seasons and the first movie, are ABSOLUTE HOOD CLASSICS!!! They still hold up to this day!

I love how they apply real life logic to a cartoon. It’s not supposed to be real
its so annoying
I honestly felt like I walked into childhood when seeing this. As a kid I never really questioned cartoon logic, just went along with it, but for sure this one is a welcoming one, and hopefully you all continue this ride cause it’s truly a fun one.
Goo-lagoon is supposed to be based off a brine pool (a concentration of super high salinity water that pools at the bottom of the sea in some places, giving the illusion of an Oceon within an Oceon)
Cold seeps.
For you to be first time watchers, I'm so excited to watch you guys react to this show. ❤ Spongebob is my all-time favorite cartoon show out there. I know the "Bubblestand" episode would be a riot for ya'll. 😂 I hope you enjoy it!
P.S. "Reef Blower" is the only mini episode meant to fit inbetween those 2 episodes and was the show's first and last attempt to try that.
The lore of SpongeBob is actually very interesting, I’m later seasons certain things are explained, plus SpongeBob is so iconic in every episode it never gets old ❤
OH MY GOD YES. THE FIRST THREE SEASONS OF SPONGEBOB ARE SO GOOD.
There's water under water at certain places. They're called Brine Pools. Super salty water that will sink and collect at the bottom, not mixing with the normal seawater much. It's really cool to look at, and very deadly to most sea animals. You can see ones who went in and didn't get out fast enough on the floors.
Fun fact: reef blower is silent because from what i remember hearing, when they were making season 1 they were one episode short and needed to make one more, but they would have to charge the VAs extra if they didn't order multiple episodes at once, so they opted to just avoid voice lines for an episode.
A false rumor went around for a while about the recording equipment being broken the same week the episode was scheduled to be recorded, but that was confirmed wrong by staff.
15:45, 16:22
I NEED IT! and What kind of a place is this?! cracked me up every time
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Mr. Krabs (Clancy Brown) is also the main Captain in Shawshank that holds Andy off the side of the building and he plays Hank in Detroit Become Human (game). First time I saw SpongeBob is when I visited my brother's frat at OU (The University of Oklahoma) on Dad's Day and the entire house was watching it. This was when the show was brand new as well.
Patrick:Whos ready?
SpongeBob: I’m Ready!
Ah yes the absolute classic that is our wonderful sea sponge! SpongeBob SquarePants! Season 1-3 brings nostalgia due to the art style it used to have, as much as i don’t mind the clean animation look rn, this specific style will always have my heart.
Hman looks great love what he did to his hair
You now have the perfect opportunity to take them into a whole new direction and react to the Spongebob theories of Alex Bale. Most of them are really really fantastic. I even believe that a few of them are spot on!
In these beginning eps it was implied that SpongeBob had a crush on Sandy since in her first two appearances SpongeBob was trying to impress her by pretending to like air (even if he didn’t know what it was) and wanting her attention since he was jealous of Larry, they felt it didn’t fit the show, so they just became friends…….but there’s Ship Tease
I didn't know you guys were reacting to this, but now that I know, I'm totally going to watch all of them. SpongeBob was one of the main shows I watched growing up and I still love it! I haven't seen the later seasons (I'm not sure what season I stopped watching), but this show still cracks me up. I also love seeing you confused about everything. It's hilarious! As an adult who's worked in restaurants, I can definitely relate to some of the customer service parts of the show and I can relate more to Squidward.
God, this brings back memories.
I used to be a SpongeBob lore nerd so much I won a contest about SpongeBob at a fair.
The show in the early days really holds it up as historically significant in my eyes.
Man going to Sandy's house the first time was iconic.
Also just wanted to say you guys are my favorite reactors especially for SpongeBob and a lot of movies I like.
Whew I knew SpongeBob was a gem, but I didn’t know I would be laughing so much! This show is such a treat!
I'm just amazed that Spongebob reactions have become a thing lately, because Usually Viacom will non-stop claim everything
i'm 27 and i watch spongebob every day to sleep/nap. i love seasons 1-3 but season 1 especially! really great writing
I feel like it's important to note that the creator of sponge bob is marine biologist, so everything that happens in it, is obviosly true xDDD
I don’t even know what to say right now… i have never seen anyone watch old spongebob episodes cause it’s old and everyone has already seen it, but ngl this is giving me such huge nostalgia
Wdym you've never seen this before!! Omg I was watching this show since I was 3, best childhood memories ever lmao. Cant wait to watch you react!!
I really love how SeeOhKnee was talking about the pants ripping getting old at the same time as the characters in the show were getting sick of it too lol
It's refreshing to get people's new reactions to spongebob for once, love this
Man idk what it is about the early days of spongebob that just automatically brings me back to my childhood sitting waching these iconic episodes at my nana's house and not having a care in the world. You may not realize it then but when you look back on it 10 20 years later your like dam where did those days go? Like those were the happiest times of our lives and we just didn't know it yet because that was our everyday for us back then.
The Goo Lagoon actually does make sense, it's most likely based on a Brine Pool, which is basically a denser concentration of saltwater than the surrounding ocean water, creating a visible underwater lake
While Spongebob absolutely runs on cartoon logic, more of it than you'd expect is actually based on real life facts since the creator, Stephen Hillenburg was a marine biologist
10:37 By this logic, having a dog is enslavement
i hope when people start watching this show, they’ll comprehend that it’s 1. A cartoon and 2. A kids show. Therefore you really don’t have to ask or make statements that are logical since this show isn’t logical or realistic, so like one said in the video you just have to take it in :D anyways loved the reaction, always fun seeing people react to spongebob, the show that was apart of A LOT of our childhoods. Such a legendary show 👀
Yeah it's similar to the Looney Tunes with it's slapstick humour.
Some things are part of it being a cartoon, but some things have actual real life connections surprisingly. Like Goo Lagoon being similar to real life Brine Pools in the ocean (Water underwater)
@@cynicalperson161 True
@@GuyWithNoNickName Yeah true, but i just seen some people who are acting like its all supposed to make sense and be logical, but it isn’t so that’s why. But, i did notice there were some real life connections, so you have a good point there.
THANK YOU
18:34 If we talk underwater, we breathe out air producing air bubbles. Since they breathe water, they'd just be breathing out water when they speak
Edit: I know this is very confusing for a lot of people, but the ocean it self is able to create very concentrated (typically salt) rivers and lakes within the ocean itself. Normally they can be very dangerous for sea creatures but I believe that some species can live inside these. I also believe there are some that are safe for fish to swim through itself.
It's really a great introduction to marine biology with Stephen Hillenberg being a marine biologist himself. The subtlety of the natural ocean life mixed with the created cartoon world is great. Easiest example is that Anchovies hunt and live in massive groups for protection which is why there's always so many of them. There's also scenes where SpongeBob can multiply out of nowhere and that's naturally how some sponges do reproduce. It's really fun as an adult to re watch this show and be able to apply all the animal science I've learned to it currently.
Cold seeps were just discovered.
Goo Lagoon is one of those types of places

@@HazbinCovenWitch These "🤓" comments are getting old, man. And they're kinda douchey.
did you enjoy it. I don't see how you guys keep running your mouth trying to be funny which you wasn't. have a nice day
23:35 "I know this one 'cause this girl I was trying to date in high school was always saying 'Ripped Pants'"
That's hilarious to me because the whole point of the episode was that when you keep playing the same note (specifically, "I ripped my pants" in this episode), people find it annoying. She clearly watched the episode and walked away with only the memes, not the point.

It's a giraffe. Funniest Patrick quote

"We love a supportive friend"
Remember that in future episodes with Patrick
You're doing Spongebob now?
Cool!
Also Spongebob is so relatable to my generation. I also rather die than admit that I'm uncomfortable.
Not having seen Avatar is also a huge crime hahaha. As someone who loves SpongeBob and Avatar, it’s a major crime not to see both. Both are so enjoyable. SpongeBob for mindless silliness. Avatar for the story, adventure, and world with a side of silly lol
i never knew we needed a spongebob react until now, i want more xd
for real, together with this series the reaction just has a nice vibe to watch
the actor who plays mr. krabs also voices Lex Luthor in the 90s & early 2000s DCAU
I think this is a fantastic time to recommend the Spongebob Musical! You need little to no knowledge to enjoy it but maybe after watching some of the series it'll be better-
He has holes so yes, he can play music through his nose the same way you play a recorder/flute. Blow air through it, cover some holes, then you get sounds n shit
“It’s a giraffe!” Will never not be funny to me🤣
Mr Crabs is also the voice of Lex Luther in the Justice League tv show and also played Hank in Detroit Become human. Pretty much he has voiced a lot of characters
7:53 funny he mentioned "tiptoe through the window" from insidious cuz (i just found this out) it is the same guy who sings that song, Tiny Tim, that sings the song in this episode
Bro, squidward was making fun of him, but I would TOTALLY pay a quarter to see someone doing bubbles like that
Finished a wash today. I told myself, when I get out of lifes mess and become an adult Ill watch all my childhood shows in peace. Just rewatched season 1 episode 1 and im doing 1 episode a day till i have no more episodes than move on to Rocket Power with a bowl of cereal.
Are you guys watching and reacting to all the seasons of SpongeBob SquarePants, it will take a long time to watch them all. Can't wait for the fun, you guys will enjoy the show 😊
Dudes questioning the logic of a cartoon where the lead character is an anthropomorphic sponge 😝
"Find a record of pinkies out prior to 1999" How about historically verified medieval tapestry?
Theres actually underwater "seas". Has to do with different levels of density. Real life phenomenon, so the Goo Lagoon makes kinda sense.
The song that plays during the krabby patty montage “Living in the Sunlight” was written by Al Sherman. His two kids grew up to be known as the Sherman Brother, Disney Songwriting icons responsible for whats referred to as the “Song book of our childhoods”
This brings back so many great memories and memorable meme qoutes
And SpongeBob and Patrick are still my favorite dynamic duo
I find your reactions to this a hell of a combo, I’ve binged it multiple times now, and I have one request: could someone rearrange some of the videos for season one and two to put them in proper order? No sweat either way, you guys are awesome regardless, really been enjoying the channel since I found it randomly, lol
8:01 That song “Tiptoe through the tulips” and the song in this episode “Living in the Sunlight” are both performed by the same singer, Tiny Time
Yooo Bree with the Bold and Brash painting in the background 🔥
🤪
The hint’s in the name. It’s called the “Goo Lagoon.” It’s not water. It’s some kind of gooey liquid that’s denser than water
More air doesn't make things float, air has a low density, but it can be compressed till it has a relatively high density and that is what astronauts and deep sea divers have
And the pressure is so deep as well that even if she were lighter than water significantly it'd still not be as simple as floating back up to the surface even with unlimited air)
I’d imagine the dots on Patrick are tiny spikes, seeing as he’s an echinoderm.
Looks at these new souls introduced to the glory of early Spongebob. The joy in their faces.
There actually are lakes and oceans beneath the ocean, they're significantly saltier sections that are verifiably separate to the rest of the water
bruh look at the freaking art style. 90s ahh feeling. I was born in 2003 and have been watching spongebob since 2009 I think. For all those who have been watching since the premiere in 1999 you are so lucky I wish I was you lol
SpongeBob was created by a marine biologist who was also a teacher so he wanted to give the kids comedy that was based off facts, a lot of jokes in the early seasons are based off of weird things about the species. Like flats the flounder
So there actually is such a thing as an underwater lake but it's basically a large pool of salt that sank, often these pools are actually poisonous and some fish will become temporarily paralyzed from swimming too close.
We all relate to squidward we don’t want to do things that look stupid but deep down you know you want too
This cartoon actually has a lot of dark theories and hidden secrets in it but it is one of my comfort shows
Binge watching all your SpongeBob videos since today is the 25th anniversary of SpongeBob
I’ve just realized something, based on the first few episodes alone, you might think every sponge Bob episode is non Cannon to each other, because unlike other shows at the time, sponge Bob sometimes has entire different settings that have nothing to do with each other each episode, and it took awhile to create all the MAIN settings ( recurring side settings are still being introduced) people may have akin it to Tom and Jerry.
Them: we’re watching SpongeBob for the first time
Me: AGING PROCESS… BY 30 YEARS PER SECOND…
You guys have no idea how feral many of us get once the theme song starts playing. It could have been years since you've seen the show, but the minute that song starts playing, you can bet your ass everyone's screaming "Spongebob Squarepants"
The song in the first episode was sang by a man called Tiny Tim, and the song is called "Living in the Sunlight"
If you thought that at first it was sang by a woman click like 👍🏻
Nevermind it's exactly like the Titanic 💀

I knew when I saw the first pilot promo in 1999, 9-yr-old me knew this was gonna be the best show ever and I was right. 😂watching this reaction video brings back memories of what I thought about the first few episodes. I couldn't get enough of that yellow sponge.
25:36 that transition between scenes was AMAAAYZIIING (as a certain SpongeBob character would say)
I first watched spongebob when I was 2 or 3 years old, I remembered when it came on my parents told me that who ever was talking I would shush them until they were quite until the show was over.
4:54 AND voices Lex Luthor in the DCAU also known as the Timverse
Also Dr. Neo Cortex in the OG Crash Bandicoot games, and some of the dragons in the first Spyro. He’s basically everywhere.
I have never met anybody in my life that has never seen spongebob and I dont know how i ended up watching your video but watching yall react made me cry laugh
"When in doubt, pinky out!"
Sandy Cheeks has the same voice actor as the original Ashley Graham from Resident Evil 4 (original)!
The ocean in the surfing represents the deep ocean , sea creatures are limited to how deep they can go because the pressure can actually kill them 😂 thats why theres still animals that havent been discovered yet
If I recall, Mr. Krabbs is also the bad guy from the first Highlander movie.
I love that SpongeBob is essentially as old as One Piece
