My local eckersleys should really thank you for my recent splurge 🤪 you’ve seriously inspired me to give pastels another go. I always hated the sticks, I hated how they felt and that god aweful squeak of student quality ones. But I’ve recently bought the 24 set of Fabre Castle and about 10 loose ones. They didn’t have pastlemat but I bought the mi teinte touch and I’m really hoping I get some similar results. I don’t want to fork out on SUPER exspensive paper while I’m still in the ‘learning’ stage. Do you think the touch paper will be similar? I absolutely love your videos and I really hope your channel takes off because you’re seriously great at what you do!
😂 Yay! Pastels are great if you work with the pans, pencils and harder pastel sticks like Conte! I also have soft pastel sticks but don't use them as much because they're messy and harder to control! I've actually used the touch paper and it's probably the second best one I've found after Pastelmat The touch is a sanded paper and the grit is quite a bit rougher than Pastelmat but you can get quite a few layers down and do all the same techniques so I think it will work fine! It may have a little bit more of a grainier end result though because the Pastelmat is a bit smoother 😊 Maybe don't blend with your fingers at all though.. You might actually sand your finger haha Maybe stick to cotton tips and blending stumps! Thankyou for your kind words! I hope I can reach more people as well, because I'd love to do this full time and I am also passionate about helping other artists! Keep me updated when you try your new supplies 😊
I know it doesn't have much to do with the video, but I appreciate the tip to not sharpen pastel pencils too much. I haven't worked in pastel pencils yet, and if I hadn't heard that, I would've tried to keep my pencils sharp all the time and wondered why they kept breaking on me.
I made that mistake when I first started and went through my pencils like crazy! You just won't be able to get as fine details as coloured pencils, but that's okay because pastel is a separate medium and it's not meant to do that :)
Hi Sheryl! It's 360gsm, however, Pastelmat is a very unique surface and there's no other paper that is the same, unfortunately! Some papers that are similar are sanded papers like UART 600 grit, Fisher400, Brush and Pencil Luxarchival and Canson Mi Teintes Touch/Tex They're not exactly the same, but they'll give you a better result than non-sanded papers! Hope that helps 😊
@@KirstyRebeccaFineArt thanks so much. Hope you're keeping safe during lockdown. xx We are going to our local art shop later, so hopefully we'll find some paper:)
You're welcome 😊 We are doing well here in Australia! We haven't had any new cases in my state for a few weeks so we are very lucky! Hope you're going okay as well! By the sounds of it, it's going okay if you are allowed to go to a physical art store 😊
Great tips Kirsty! Thank you so much for sharing!
No problem 😊
Beautiful collection; thanks for the tips.
Thankyou 😊
Thanks Kirsty

Hi Kirsty! I would like to know what the gsm of your paper is please? I'm from South Africa, and they don't sell Pastelmat here :( xxx
