I own a 2G DSM, and have owned 2 turbo cars and one NA car and will tell anyone who may be on the fence about it, these cars CAN BE RELIABLE even the turbo cars, you just HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF IT! If you neglect it, it’ll neglect you, take your time and love the car and it will return the same energy.
So I bought a race project in the july of 2010 finally got it rebuilt and running in 2022 it had 18 different wiring problems me and my buddy fixed all problems within 3 months but my 86 ford on the other hand 3 years and 4 shops still has an alternator charging problem. The dsm community is the most knowledgeable forums amd support of any car on the planet.
I don't know about that. Mine was a 97 stick. I threw it through a lot. My dad rebuilt the engine even. Yet later i learned vehicle electronics. Because i got sound gear robbed all the time. Yes its super casual when the peddle mushes to nothing in 90 mph Dallas rush hour traffic. Im a great driver, that should have caused a crash.
"it will not love you until it feels you have earned it". Correct lol After spending years fixing, building, then fixing my 2G again, I can say that once you make it to the point where you can drive the car every day without issues, you'll realize how much fun these cars are. Great vid!
@@streavel7 oh you misunderstood, I already have one I just want a vid on it 😂😂. You're definitely right, handles like a gokart and adding bolt ons aren't too complicated, and I've worked on subies and bmws. Fun ass car, just needs mods to get it dialed in!
@@streavel7putting an aftermarket rear motor mount pretty much eliminates all wheel hop. Stock still wheel hops every so often but definitely less than most fwd cars I’ve driven. I’m also only pushing like 360 torque on my st stock turbo tuned on e30, hp hovering around 270-275. Waiting for funds to big turbo 😂
Um at least the SVT versions were track champions, they hit 160mph easy. My cousin had one as a work rental car. He wore a bicicyle helmet and acted stupid to mess with people. All 3 cylinders on blast. haha
My dads pickup when i was little. He had to trade in his chevelle bc of me. How the Datsun pickup was safer? It probably wasn't. I grew up to have lead foot disease. We got to get to 2nd grade in 3 minutes. Get your helmet. Edit it was a motorcycle. I hate them to this day.
I purchased my 2g Eclipse spyder in summer 2000 for 1600. I was in a bad motorcycle accident summer 2022, and my car sat in limbo from summer 2001 til last week when I finally was healed up enough to try and drive again. Before the wreck, I had just had the timing belt, oil and spark plugs changed, new tires alignment and tie rods, clutch, whole ac compressor changed, and I was shocked to see all I need was a new battery to get my girl restarted. And she did on the first crank! Been driving her around looking for any problems, and for being sat for over 3 years, I’m amazed!
This is about right. I own a 2g dsm since 2018 and i feel like i aged 12 years. Rust, blown headgasket 3 times, rodnock 2 times, no parts anywhere (eu) , pain in the ass, you should buy one too, will be great trust me
Yeah, parts here in eu is hard to find :/ luckily I managed to get a 95% rust free gst back in 2020. Tho as stated in the video. Electric is the main problem sadly. And annoying to deal with.
I’ve owned a 99 RS for like 15 years my bro bought it new back in 98 at the dealer. I’ve only tinted it, sound system, bought higher trim 5 spoke oem rims, and sitting low on Tein coilovers. I recently also bought a 97 Eclipse GST Spyder all oem with 54k miles. Maybe one day I’ll get the elusive all wheel drive GSX. Eclipse 2g is personally my favorite car. I don’t care that it’s not the best or fastest.
I will never give up on my 2g eclipse. But bro was sooooo right, " there are only two ways to build these cars, 300whp street car or 900whpo drag monster" so true
These are definitely gearhead cars, not just mechanically but you need to be able to do the electronics side too. Getting datalogging set up right away is important Thermal R&D exhaust is the goat if you can get one, most catbacks are 2.5" flanged to bolt up to the stock cat so need to be modified for a full 3" OEM crank pulleys separate at ~100k and a Fluidampr upgrade gives you a smooth clutch feel and easy to install
"It will not love you until you have earned it" could not be more true. I own a 1g eagle talon tsi awd, and it is the best and worst decision I've made😂😂
You do realize that 4g64 and 4g63t parts are interchangeable so alot of people use the 4g64 block for higher displacement with 4g63t for everything else and its works
I’m 19, sold my first one after throwing rod, that friend has now fixed it and drives it like a maniac. Looking into buying a cleaner one as we speak. (Found one with 50k miles from dealer)
I have a 2.5L Ford Fusion and everytime I see parts it’s for the 2.0 or 1.6 I need help so whenever if you get the chance to do a video on ford fusions I and the fusion family would appreciate it because for performance I have no clue
They even have decent builds for an 420a. The neon engine isn't bad (you can add a turbo) but if you want to build a fresh engine you can get a 2.4l from a stratus/cirrus and combine it with the stock crank and pistons from an srt4.... It's a lot simpler to just buy an srt4 neon at that point though.
Besides regular maintenance advice, too much torque will break the transmission. Go for quality parts. If you’re skeptical about the state of the motor, just pull it and rebuild it all. Do everything
2:36 I have a 3g eclipse with a 7 bolt (later model) 4g64 and they are decent it’s just the cylinder head and sometimes lack of piston oil squirters from factory that suck. They are kind of a “big block” 4g63. You can make a “stroker” 4g63 with a 4g64 crankshaft for more torque, you can put a 4g63 crankshaft in a 4g64 “de-stroking” it and with a modified dohc head it will out rev most 4g63s all day
