2GA has been and will always be my first love. DSMs are really a weekend toy car and shouldn’t be daily driven cars. They are like any toy car or hobby, it’s just for fun and you will sink money into them. I’m getting one for nostalgic reasons, like my old red 2GA GSX. My daily is an accord V6 and I’m getting a new tundra when they hit the lot.
@@MiguelDsm for sure for the 420a, but wait until you have kids and need car seats and need to do Costco runs and stuff! I wanna see that episode when you pack all your kids and do a grocery run in the VR4. Then do a 10 sec pass. That would be epic.
ive had my 95 gst dsm for maybe 1.5years now, MY first big project car and i decided to get the kbd blitz kit yes i know shame on me but i like that look, that urethane is kicking my butt when trying to paint the car and thats the only thing right now stopping me from driving it is the paint peel on my kit and havnt been able to put my finishing coats on the paint do to that

I’m 16 and have been saving up since I was 13 an I bought a 1995 eagle talon 4 weeks ago an I’ve been happy with this car ever since I got, i fixed up a lot on it already and definitely more to come
Perfect review my guy. I started with my EG hatch and now I also have a 98 GSX. For the GSX, because it's turbo and AWD there's a lot to go wrong and a lot more to maintain and learn/research. That's why I agree with your process of starting with the GS and then building it out. Having a second car to drive will take off a lot of the stress. Loving your videos dude, I also enjoy that cool RGB shift technique that you do, give me extra of that haha video idea: compilation of a bunch of the cinematics you've done, no vlog
another thing I'll say is the attention these cars get is incredible. Mine is just a stock white GSX and people take pictures and talk to me about it pretty often. It seems like everybody in the car scene loves them and they're not as played out as subarus. I love being able to take it out and make somebody's day
Good idea on the compilation! As far as the attention you get, you’re right. Someone always compliments them in the streets! You never see them out and about
Entered the 2G life late in life and paid 2k on Craig's list, turned around and had a shop put a used motor on my RS/420a after realizing it had an HG leak using more coolant than normal. Drove it until the HG went out again and had to let it sit for 5 years until I had the funds to try again. I had a shop put in a rebuilt in 2018 and daily'd it until Covid when I only took it out on the weekend for errands while working at home. Earlier this year I had some suspension work done after the squeaks and squawks got too me, it was time after nearly 300k miles on the chassis and 25 years old to boot. Over the years I have pulled in some of the GS trim and features from the pick-n-pull, so I affectionally call it an RS/GS, N/A. This car is so much fun to drive, it is Manual and has an aftermarket sunroof similar to the stock ones put in with Barcelona Red Pearl coloring and low spoiler. I drive to work among a sea on Tesla's that make me smile knowing mine is paid for in full and I get to and from work just the same...
I been around the Dsm/ Mitsubishi platform since the first time I saw a conquest/ Starion got my first eclipse in high school the car I let go and wish I never sold was my galant vr4 that car was awesome good to see there are still people out there keeping it alive
@@MiguelDsm one of my dad's friends had a conquest tsi it's been a wrap since then the first time I saw eclipse I knew I had to have one and knowing what the 4g63 is capable of just sweeted the pot
Just buy a toolbox, read the manual and watch a lot of videos about fixing certain parts before you start actually working on it. That’s how I was too I was scared and didn’t know anything but the manual and internet comes in handy. Also dsm forums help.
been into dsm's since 1994 when i picked up my talon tsi in 94 and raced the hell out of it beating it to death to a point it finally went to the crusher. DSM's were started in 89 and stopped being built in 99 after that mitsy took over the factory to produce the eclipses after 99 as the third gens and forth gens. they in the final year of the eclipse they built some sneaky forth gens that were turboed with the 2.4 engines which made those who picked the last ones up remember the old days since they were a beast again but only made a few of them.
@@MiguelDsm yeah they were a limited edition models and they only came in one color black with Enkie five spoke wheels. and black interiors with silver clusters. one of the car mags got a chance to drive one they said if they had gone that route when they first started building the forth gens Mitsubishi could have saved the eclipse.
Loving the vlogs/videos. For my review on the Eclipse, my only gripe with it is just that parts are discontinued for the car so looking for things is hectic. 2g is my dream car tho so anything it hits at me I won't give up. As for the types of videos, the videos you have always done I've loved but to not make it vague. Car meets, night rides, cruises, working on the cars, hanging out with Illestevo or the DSM guys, etc. You just bring good vibes so its awesome to watch and support you in videos and the merch.
This is why I try to buy newer cars that still give me feel and connection. Why? Tuning is easier and the car breaks down less… If you have some type of a love attraction to older cars, make sure you have a lot of money because they will break frequently, and then if you want to even make them more powerful, plan on spending thousands upon thousands just for the ability to tune it…
I’ve got my 98 GST it’s the Barcelona Red color and it’s getting AWD swapped as soon as I get my parts from RIX Racing in a few months, looking forward to pulling the motor and building it for 600hp! 🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽
I’m so ready, my dad has his in our garage for a while. We finally go it out in the open & we’re repairing it on the way little by little!! I’m slowly learning about my dad 97 spyder gst & he did tell me it’ll be mine after it’s done
To me and from my experience it’s not waiting for things to break but fixing it before it happens you have to expect things are going to break being it’s 20+ year old cars. Some stuff breaks and you can’t except it but there are tons of things you can check before it goes bad that one of the ways I prevent them from being “unreliable” and obviously maintenance oil changes and what not but these cars can be real reliable with care.
I have bough stock 1996 GS Eclipse with my dad back in January this year aaand since then nothing relly happened, it's sitting in garage and waiting for new powersteering pump cause they probably don't have any existence in EU :D Love to see it when we come over, can't wait to get her running. And what I would like to see from you ? Let's say chill long POV drive, there isn't much of these on youtube.
I actually have a 99 eclipse gst but mine is a spyder and in all honesty I love the car so much, I have had it for a while now and I’m actually rebuilding and fully forging the motor out and I have a t25 turbo set up in it and ground control coilovers on it. Handles really nice and super quick for when I need to put a vet in it’s place😂 it’s in pieces right now tho. Kinda hurts my heart
I have a 99 gst spyder as well. I'm 41yrs old now but when I was 17 I worked 2 jobs / saved every penny to buy a 98 gst spyder ( totaled/wrecked in a headon collision ) I LOVED that 1st spyder so much I put about 2k into it & beat a WS6 TransAm at the track (1/8 mile) HOWEVER becuz I modded it I then Raced it EVERYWHERE ANYTIME & I was under a warranty which I took advantage of ( my car was in the shop ALL THE TIME ) My new one , was a gift from my fiancè for our anniversary got her October 2020 for $10k with 84k miles ( MINT , White w/ black top , Black Leather Interior w/ white face Guages ) I only put an Injen Intake on it & then stopped because it's such a unicorn that I feel bad modding it. I HAVENT SEEN another spyder since I got mine, NOT ONE. I've only seen 2 or 3 2g Eclipses. What's yours look like, do you have any RUclips vid??
My first car in 2004 was a 98 GS and unfortunately that one got totaled. Bought a 97 GSX two years ago and hope to keep her forever. Fickle cars but have a lot of sentimental value. It’s a labor of love, have to want it.
Bro my first car was a 99 GS back in 2005. I had it for 3 months to the day and some asshole hit me head on and totaled it. I was on my way to go get my first oil change smh. It only had 62k on it. It was in very good condition. I never got to customize it and put a turbo on it and I still regret it til this day.
1990 first year. 200 hp turbo models. No dsm was released in 1989. Chrystler stopped working on the designs in g2 but everything was set for years the partnership officially ended in 1998. With the end of both the Talon and Laser line.
I'm an Eclipse fan boy. Lol... im on my 3rd DSM, and I drive an 07 GT 6 speed with a manual as my daily.. I got a 99 gs oz eclipse. Black on black. I'm close to turboing my car with a Hahn kit, as well as manual swap. Put a ton of money into it, and been looking for more rare and discontinued parts for it. Love every aspect of it: modifying, maintaining, personalizing, and of course driving. So many things you can change with a little bit of fab work, like getting thicker 3rd gen rear sway bar to fit with the lower arms and 7/8" spacers on the rear subframe. And of course, Outlander sport front brakes. Lol
I get my eclipse back from paint next week, super excited. Got a bunch of carbonetic's stuff showing up. Love all the haters, got a 420a Hahn turbo setup, 14psi, je pistons, eagle rods. I need a bisimoto plate :P
I bought a 97 gs in 2014 no major problems to this day still my daily just don't have ac and that sucks here in Las Vegas and i just bought a 97 spyder gst last month for 700 not a big fan of verts but for the price I couldn't pass it up and the only problems are no first gear and water pump but I am exited to have a turbo
This video is a year old but i just wanted to say ive been looking into buying an eclipse forever. Been my dream car since i was like 8. Unfortunately in my area you just cant find them and if you do they are too expensive. I got extremely lucky and managed to buy a 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS for $600 a few days ago. It runs and drives but it does have body damage. I got to drive it home when i bought it and ive never been happiee.
I just recently picked up a 4G GT and I have not looked back I still have a 95 GST that is heavily modified but I think it is just as fast as the 4G GT model and plus I can put the hammer down faster than i could do it, build boost in the gst
I love this car, thank you for the info Miguel the goat. I can’t wait for mine, this car has been my dream car since I saw Brian driving it. This car is so slept on and very unique.
After finally getting my 99 gs running from owner blowing engine (blew a rod on cylinder 1), finding all black leather interior at junk yards, and paying $800 in back fees to DMV (car has been broken down for 3-4 years),. I Hope I pass this Cali smog. Keep up the vids Miguel. As far as newer eclipses i think there still sick. I bought one cuz my friends 3g.
Keep it going Miguel, your videos can be addicting and your passion for DSMs is infectious. I bought my red 1998 GS 420a in 2004 in Hawaii. The previous owner had brought it over from Florida in stock condition. I have since then replaced the cams (Stage 1) as I could not find the stock replacements. Your are spot on about its bubbly curves, as every time I take her out she draws in the attention. Btw, could you recommend a mechanic that would change out the heat exchanger behind the dash?
I own a 1996 4g64 2g spyder and in my opinion it’s not worth getting at all since the parts are nearly impossible to find for this engine type but I do have to say if you maintain it, it is a fairly reliable car and “fun” to have.
I use to see these all the time when I was in highschool, and I wanted one so bad. It was an obtainable sports car. Now that I’m in a place where I can own one, I never find them unless they are beat to shit.
I bought a 1997 Eclipse gst for my first project car. It "needed an engine" and it would be good to go. Fast forward almost 2 years and I haven't driven it once. Wiring was spaghetti, engine I swapped in was bad (seller wasn't honest), rocker was bent up, rug was infested with a mouse, all suspension was shot, steering rack was shot, ect ect. I've bought 5 dsm's for parts, rebuilt an engine, and spent around 7k worth of suspension upgrades, brake upgrades, ecmlink, black leather interior swap, ect ect....and it still doesn't run. I could have spent that amount on an rsx type s and it would have outperformed a dsm in any category you could throw at it. That being said, I would never sell my dsm. It is my first car and I love it to death. It may be an extremely frustrating money pit, but I wouldn't trade it for anything.
The 2gs look great but the 1ga/b black top that looks like a 240sx is the epitome of 90s JDM design lets be honest! Former nissan/infiniti guy but I just picked up a 92 talon with only 70,000 miles on it (sat in a garage for a decade!). It's only the fwd N/A set up but 16g turbo upgrade coming soon, I'll run at 7-8psi and might only get 220-250hp out of but I will love every moment of it.
Miguel, I think you hit the nail on the head with everything you said. I've owned some form of DSM for upwards of 20 years now and they can be fun and they can be reliable. I gotta ask though man, I love you and the guys do with the GS/RS models of the car. Do you have any friends that own a GSX? It would be great to see similar content on a true GSX.
I got two Eclipses, a 99 GST and 99 GSX. The GSX needed an engine and the GST was auto so I'm in the process of building the GST engine and putting it into the GSX. All the parts are with the GSX however it's basically a shell right now. So I have to piece it together. Gonna be a huge pain but hopefully it doesn't take forever. I came from an Evo 8 (wish I didn't sell it) but I'm familiar with the 4G63 platform.
Trust me I know the struggle when you have a 3g eclipse most of my buddies were like what why I just tell them you will be amazed when it's done going for turbo 4g64 awd should be fun...

Agreed on the weekend car aspect. Unless it’s a non turbo. Those are great daily drivers
@@MiguelDsm for sure for the 420a, but wait until you have kids and need car seats and need to do Costco runs and stuff! I wanna see that episode when you pack all your kids and do a grocery run in the VR4. Then do a 10 sec pass. That would be epic.
That would be sick hahaha
ive had my 95 gst dsm for maybe 1.5years now, MY first big project car and i decided to get the kbd blitz kit yes i know shame on me but i like that look, that urethane is kicking my butt when trying to paint the car and thats the only thing right now stopping me from driving it is the paint peel on my kit and havnt been able to put my finishing coats on the paint do to that
Man I love this. Just a guy who got a sweet car and stuck with it. Such a cozy video
I had 3 eclipses so far one rs and the other 2 were gst all 1997 for some reason. I bought my first one in 2002. I just love they way they look. I have a 1997 eclipse gst now since 2008. You are right Miguel 2g I say is the best over all . I probably am considered OG DSM like @mistergsx. 👍 great video keep up the good work I watch ever one of them.
Thanks man. You still in chino hills?
@@MiguelDsm I'm close I'm by eastvale/ontario ranch area
I’m 16 and have been saving up since I was 13 an I bought a 1995 eagle talon 4 weeks ago an I’ve been happy with this car ever since I got, i fixed up a lot on it already and definitely more to come
Perfect review my guy. I started with my EG hatch and now I also have a 98 GSX. For the GSX, because it's turbo and AWD there's a lot to go wrong and a lot more to maintain and learn/research. That's why I agree with your process of starting with the GS and then building it out. Having a second car to drive will take off a lot of the stress.
Loving your videos dude, I also enjoy that cool RGB shift technique that you do, give me extra of that haha
video idea: compilation of a bunch of the cinematics you've done, no vlog
another thing I'll say is the attention these cars get is incredible.

If Keep it stock or mostly stock with just minor basic upgrades there not that bad to maintain at all.
Just buy a toolbox, read the manual and watch a lot of videos about fixing certain parts before you start actually working on it. That’s how I was too I was scared and didn’t know anything but the manual and internet comes in handy. Also dsm forums help.
i have a 98 gs and love it so much
Maintance is key before any mods for sure!
been into dsm's since 1994 when i picked up my talon tsi in 94 and raced the hell out of it beating it to death to a point it finally went to the crusher.
They made some turbo 4g models?
@@MiguelDsm yeah they were a limited edition models and they only came in one color black with Enkie five spoke wheels. and black interiors with silver clusters. one of the car mags got a chance to drive one they said if they had gone that route when they first started building the forth gens Mitsubishi could have saved the eclipse.
I have a 97 talon with an absolutely flawless interior and fairly low miles. It’s been in the family since new and I’m turning it into a show car
Beautiful cars. Back in 1999-2002 friend had one. We use to have so much fun with his gsx.
Parts are only going to get harder too. Thanks for the feedback as far as the videos!
This is why I try to buy newer cars that still give me feel and connection. Why? Tuning is easier and the car breaks down less…
If you have some type of a love attraction to older cars, make sure you have a lot of money because they will break frequently, and then if you want to even make them more powerful, plan on spending thousands upon thousands just for the ability to tune it…
I’ve got my 98 GST it’s the Barcelona Red color and it’s getting AWD swapped as soon as I get my parts from RIX Racing in a few months, looking forward to pulling the motor and building it for 600hp!
I liked how you park where there is tire marks. Added a nice little touch.
It’s in the details..jk I just got lucky lol
I have bough stock 1996 GS Eclipse with my dad back in January this year aaand since then nothing relly happened, it's sitting in garage and waiting for new powersteering pump cause they probably don't have any existence in EU :D Love to see it when we come over, can't wait to get her running. And what I would like to see from you ? Let's say chill long POV drive, there isn't much of these on youtube.
Man i appreciate your videos every time i come across them… your gonna earn my subscription soon…
I'm 41yrs old now but when I was 17 I worked 2 jobs / saved every penny to buy a 98 gst spyder ( totaled/wrecked in a headon collision ) I LOVED that 1st spyder so much I put about 2k into it & beat a WS6 TransAm at the track (1/8 mile) HOWEVER becuz I modded it I then Raced it EVERYWHERE ANYTIME & I was under a warranty which I took advantage of ( my car was in the shop ALL THE TIME )
My new one , was a gift from my fiancè for our anniversary got her October 2020 for $10k with 84k miles ( MINT , White w/ black top , Black Leather Interior w/ white face Guages ) I only put an Injen Intake on it & then stopped because it's such a unicorn that I feel bad modding it.
At least you ended up with the gsx man. Keep her safe
In short Yes I Do want a Eclipse 😅
Everyone secretly does 🌚

I have a 97 Spyder and love it
I'm an Eclipse fan boy. Lol... im on my 3rd DSM, and I drive an 07 GT 6 speed with a manual as my daily.. Lol
#1 fan here I ♥️ this car so much
🙏🏻❤️
I’ve owned mine for 6 years and is still not fully done lol these cars are for sure a patients build!
I’m 9 years in man.. still so much left haha
I get my eclipse back from paint next week, super excited. Got a bunch of carbonetic's stuff showing up. Love all the haters, got a 420a Hahn turbo setup, 14psi, je pistons, eagle rods.
I need a bisimoto plate :P
I got a 97 RS around 6 monts ago and I've never been more proud to own a Dsm, Mitsubishi Eclipses have to be one of the funnest cars to own.
You also can just put the top down & no need for the A/C lmao
I've never had an eclipse but owned 4 eagle Talon in total all TSI AWD my last one is being properly built right now for some serious power 😁
That’s sick. Keep this one around
Wish they still made cars unique like this. Beautiful ❤
I’d love to buy one.
Good luck with yours bro! 🤙🏼
Stay patient man! Good luck with the smog
@@MiguelDsm thanks. When you gonna go Honda tho? Lol
Glad to hear man! As far as a mechanic, I only know of a couple down in California. If you’re in Hawaii then you might have a harder time finding one

I got a 2003 RS just so I could learn how to drive a manual transmission car and it's been fun.
They’re great to learn manual on. Great choice
I own a 1996 4g64 2g spyder and in my opinion it’s not worth getting at all since the parts are nearly impossible to find for this engine type but I do have to say if you maintain it, it is a fairly reliable car and “fun” to have.
Never really been around the non turbo spyders. I think you can 4g63 swap them though

I've owned two 1g a 2g and just bought my 3rd 4g nothing compares!
Awesome video man I just bought a a 99 gst with a lot of upgrades. I’m just trying to learn as much as I can
I used to have a 98' gs, then, after like 9 months i sell it, n i regret a lot, i miss that thing
That’s the most common comment I get about owners and their eclipses lol
Need some footage of this handing out Ls to 5.0/SS/and helllcats
Loved the video , I finally have a job that’ll let me afford to get a dsm and properly restore it , just looking to find the right one
Mine has been a big investment, but it’s a ride or die feeling with it.
Same 🗣
Miguel, I think you hit the nail on the head with everything you said. I've owned some form of DSM for upwards of 20 years now and they can be fun and they can be reliable. I gotta ask though man, I love you and the guys do with the GS/RS models of the car. Do you have any friends that own a GSX? It would be great to see similar content on a true GSX.
I know many people with a Gsx. I’ll add some more to the channel down the road
@@MiguelDsm not required, but thanks for considering! ;-)
@@MiguelDsm where can I find a Rs for sale?
