  • This is the third arcade game featuring WWF wrestlers. Instead of being made by Technos as with the previous two games, this was made by Midway, who made games like Mortal Kombat & NBA Jam using digitized graphics. This isn't a straight forward wrestling game as you would think. It has some elements of wrestling involved, but is played more like a fighting game except that it is in a wrestling ring. Each character can pull off various special moves & wrestling grapple attacks. The most notable is The Undertaker being able to use a head stone to hit an opponent, or his ability shoot ghosts.
This game featured 8 wrestlers to choose from. They were Doink, Bret "The Hitman" Hart, Razor Ramon, Shawn Michaels, Lex Luger, Bam Bam Bigelow, Yokozuna, & The Undertaker. My personal favorite to play as was Razor Ramon since I was able to pull off his 24-Hit Combo, which I demonstrate during the game play.
While I find this game fun to play for a while, it isn't my favorite. I like my wrestling games to have more wrestling & less fighting game elements in it. On the plus side, I like the fact that Howard Finkel, Vince McMahon, & Jerry "The King" Lawler have their voices featured in the game. They even feature snippets of each wrestler's theme song & you can even hear the theme of WWF Monday Night Raw (from that time). As I said before, this isn't a bad game, just not my favorite.
In this play through, I'm playing in Intercontinental Championship Mode. This is the easier of the two modes. You start off in 1-on-1 action, then go to 1-on-2, & finally face off in a 1-on-3 match. The World Wrestling Federation Championship Mode has you facing a series of 1-on-2 matches, then 1-on3 matches, & then the final match is a battle royal where you have to outlast all of your opponents. In order to get the true ending, you have to win the WWF Championship.
When they came out with the home versions of this game, I was so disappoint in the SNES version. They cut both Yokozuna & Bam Bam Bigelow out of the game. Even though the Genesis version was superior, I wasn't impressed with the sound.
