I think several issues this would become less prevalent if we increased human activity at sea (e.g. by farming or settling there) thus making the sea/ocean less of a deserted place and therefore unattractive for criminal activity. This would also force people to value our oceans/seas more and address pollution there more fervently since it'd be home.

      1. It doesn't stop people from building their own boat and hardware secretly, and hid their traces via usage of the black market for getting whatever resources they need for their Boat. You will be surprised at the length people will go for this kind of things.
      2. "verified unhackable hardware" require lost of resources to create and to keep up to date. Any hardware, if not kept up to date, will eventually get hacked. But not all country have the resources/willing to spend the resources to create said hardware.....

Legal commercial fishing is also a huge problem . The reality is that we don't need to eat fish to survive , B12 and Omega-3 can both be synthesized from plants and algae . Aquaponics allows to raise fish and crops in a closed loop system on land and its energy costs are lower than that of fishing boats. If governments subsidies aquaponic farm in the same way that they do fishing then we can save the oceans.

Great to be able to catch the illegal fishing boat but really quite insignificant.. We need to use such tracking and accountability systems to make sure that we fish in a way that doesn't deplete our oceans, to create areas in which our oceans are able to recuperate. He talks about sustainable fishing practices, but those hardly exist, the only sustainable fishing is fishing in quantities that don't exhaust more than the waters are able to produce. This is not something that any commercial fishing tries to, or is capable of doing.

Send the message that they're going to pay for their own destruction and that they won't know where is safe.
Second, these boats and ships didn't appear to have been cleaned before sinking. Dumping heavy fuel oil and various other toxic crap into your water doesn't sound like protecting your oceans to me. Third, the steel hulled ships could have been towed to a suitable reef building location and sunk there, after cleaning of course. Broadcast the video of the sinking, thanking these criminals for their contribution and how you can't wait for more.
I get what they're going for but it's a wasted opportunity.

Essentially it is legitimate to eat, farmed fish is too toxic for safe human consumption. The legitimacy and motives of so called World authorities, is questionable and has a terrible track record itself. However, illegal fishers are often using toxic chemicals such as formaldehyde, to preserve catch until it is convenient to fence it. Chinese fishing vessels are an arm of the PLA, so they should be considered a national security threat. Capture the crew, and deport them, and capture the vessel, and recycle the materials and components, for local infrastructure.

Does no one see the problem with this or is it just me. They not only can track you fishing illegally but they can track you doing literally ANYTHING else as well! Sorry but this is a hard NO BUENO for me

Haha if your willing to fish illegally, your assumed to be willing to keep (what is effectively) slaves or hostages?
I don't know it seems like a leap... I mean just cause it has happened doesn't mean it is generally related.

Illegal fishing is the stupidest thing. It's the golden goose scenario writ large.
Put simply, we could have a thriving ocean and harvest TEN TIMES more seafood if we establish sanctuaries, don't overfish.
As it is, it's becoming an ocean of jellies, algal blooms, crustaceans (cockroaches of the sea imo) and endless mud. Thank you, China, Germany etc.
