The "Novitzkenegger" Slingshot Challenge - Longest Crossbow in History?

  • The "Butterfly" shooting style brings the power of slingshots into new dimensions.
With a "wingspan" of about 1,60 meters, Jörg Sprave can break the 60 ft/lbs (80 Joule) projectile energy that the US military considers as lethal for humans.
So what would happen if a guy with the arm span of Dirk Novitzki (2,30 meters) and the power of Arnold Schwarzenegger (in his days) could achieve with a forward extended slingshot, giving him a 3 meter draw?
To find that out, a new slingshot crossbow has been designed, with a total draw length of said 3 meters. A trigger based locking mechanism allows a normal person to cock and shoot like Novitzkenegger!
The results are quite impressive. 102 Joules, over 80 ft/lbs!

It is not so bad here, you can get a license. I own 34 legal firearms, amongst them a Desert Eagle and a semi auto HK MP5. But I can only use them at a range, never in my garden, and I don't have a license to make firearms. So slingshots rule!

Just when I think it couldn't get any better, faster, stronger; you come out with a new earth shaking sling. Thumbs Up!

Yes, that is true for most powerful weapons. That is the reason why you have to design and build them well. And handle them with care.

I loved this video. You are having a lot of fun with your imagination and inventions and are willing to try anything to see what happens. Don't stop.

Joerg, your videos are some of the best on youtube, I really enjoy watching them. Would love to see some more 'how to' stuff, and to see you actually making some of the slingshots. Keep up the great work. :)

Surely. A hit with the 19 mm lead ball at 270 km/h WILL stop any attacker. It would break bones and inflict a huge amount of pain.

    Great video and very informative.
A portable 2 meter butterfly SS is a very achievable design using telescopic or folding sections.
You didn't seem to get a full butterfly draw in the video.
Had you used a 'stick' between the fork and your trigger release, it would be easy to aim and fire. Ratcheting is also an option.
If 2 Meters would produce 90 FPE it would be wunderbar!

@JoergSprave - Why not add more rubber making it a heavier pull and perhaps create a cocking lever?

  • @butaangas
    @butaangas 14 лет назад

o_O Holy crap! Now try to make that with not a rubber band, but with a very powerful spring underneath it, and attach steel cable to the spring, and attach wheels to the front, so that the steel cable can go around that. Just like a over/under type of deal.

What is your actual armspan? I'm a 13 year old and my armspan is 1.7 metres. Are your arms short or are mine just long?
