Rock Sling Hunting Practice. | Smiling Sling Vs. Coconut And Alligator!

  • In this video I show the hunting capabilities of a rock sling. By using a coconut which is a small game sized target. I attempt a 10 meter(32.9 feet) shot.
    Showing that if you carry your sling on you and are within 10m you can effectively hunt small game. With practice of course.
    After the video an alligator pops up and the camera comes back on for an entertaining show!
    If you are impressed and want a Smiling Sling for yourself this is how you can get your own!!

    I make these slings too, and I can testify that if your rock is not perfectly ball-shaped, it's not going to go where you want it to because of aerodynamics. That was a lucky shot at the coconut. I'm learning a lot by watching this man. Because of what I'm seeing here, I'm going to significantly shorten my sling cords.

      @@Colt1775 , weigh one of the ammo rocks. Then try to figure the velocity using a phone stop watch or a chronometer.
      The formula is:
      Velocity (in feet per second) X velocity X projectile weight (in grains - so the grainweight can be measured on a grainweight scale of calculated from pounds and ounces) ÷ 450240 = foot/pounds energy, which I believe is Kenitic Energy (KE).
      So: V x V x Weight ÷ 450240 = KE.
      So a hypothetical: 210 x 210 x 634 ÷ 450240 = 62.098 KE (or fpe) .
      For a hand-powered leather sling and a rock, that's a
      .tremendous. amount of energy.

    You are skilled! That's good shooting. I believe getting to within 10 yards of any game is rare indeed, then all the movement has to be done. No doubt you can hit a coconut from 20 yards while behind a brush blind tho. And yes, the projectile hit with a lot of energy. Thanks for showing.

      @@PracticalParacord Yes it definitely looks so, but I do sling too,and my stones NEVER skip. Quite the opposite. They spin around the longer axis and most times sink with a silent "blup!!" and almost no splash. Like a knife or something. The flatter ones buzz in the air and veer, a clear sign that they are spinning along the wrong axis too.
      I tried placing them sideways on the pocket, but nothing....

    All due respect ... what we see demonstrated here is that someone who can hit small targets at 20 feet still has difficulty beyond that range due to the spin put on the projectile. This becomes a whole new game beyond 50 feet as either a hunting or combat tool where you may have only one chance to hit your target.

    • @frogbear02
      @frogbear02 Год назад

      realistically, they were used for combat en mass. youd have hundreds of slingers in a row throwing at a line of hundreds of enemies lined up in a row. ill grant, hitting human sized targets is much easier than say, a rabbit sized one, but all things considered your best bet with hunting is either rabbits that like to sit or into a flock of waterfowl
