Thank you for this video. It has showed me that I'm not going to removing the old, and installing a new starter motor on my BRE engine myself! FFS. That looks properly awkward to get to... and my starter motor has just died, so I can't start the car at all to get it to a garage with a ramp. FML. How long was the labour in the end to change the starter motor?
Hi mate. Changed mine on the weekend and you don’t need to remove any of the components shown in this video. Jack up the front drivers side and you can get to both 16mm mounting bolts from the underside. Then disconnect the electrical connections from the front and it slides right out. Took me an hour and I’m not a mechanic. This video nearly put me off doing it too 😅. This was on a 2007 a6 2.0 tdi as per the video.
@@jamessorenson2878 Hmm, strange. In my case I couldn't even see the top bolt not even talking about putting a socket or a spanner on it. Are you sure you have the cat at all as that that was in the way.
Yeah cat was in the way if going from the top. Seen a few others going in from the wheel well which I tried but access was still tight. From underneath there’s access for spanner or socket with extension on both bolts. May have to go on feel for the top one depending on how far you get underneath the car. BRE was my engine code but I don’t think that changes anything.

Cheers fella for this video.
You're welcome. 👌

Just bump start it and drive it to a garage. Erm I'd say it's days labour. Might be less but it all depends how rusty the bolts are etc.

Porke cuando aranco mi coche es el mismo motor 2.0 TDI aranco y se para
Once you've got all that shit out the way, how do you disconnect the cables? Still looks like there's no way to get to them
It's tight up in there but it's possible. Been quite a long time since I did it and don't remember exactly what tools did I use.
@gastyle9445 Thanks mate. Stuck on the poxy connector with the red tab. Moved the tab but can't see any way to get the bastard off
