Our fire station motor (Michigan, USA) runs on 240-volt, single phase, but since it's not 3-phase, it needs a lot of amperage to get up to full speed in the first ten seconds or so. I think we have 100 amps going to it through the control box that switches it on and off for 13 cycles for a general fire alarm. Each cycle is about twelve seconds, with a one or two-second wind-down before the next cycle ramps it up again to maximum. It's on a 25-foot steel tower, and we can hear it over five miles away on a windless day.
For anybody who does not know there is supposed to be horns attached to it To amplify the sound and making way louder I have personally worked on one of those and they are extremely loud in person
